I’m so very sorry Lorena I had every intention of checking in with you yesterday but had one of those days :(…
Firstly I want to thank you for saving these little kittens and offering a home to a special needs cat <3 ..
We happen to have 4 special needs cats.. one has Neuro issues which effect his balance .. it’s a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia .. in some cases Hydrocephalis can cause similar balance issues especially if the build up of pressure compresses the cerebellum so if this little one ever shows signs of sudden onset balance issues or his balance is a little off and gets dramatically worse it’s a sign the pressure is build up in that area of the brain.. I’m sure your vet explained exactly what the condition is and some of the effects the condition has on a cats.. there are different grades of Hydrocephalis.. some more sever that others and most requiring emergency brain surgery at some stage or another.. Mild cases can live relatively long normal lives and it’s always important to be very vigilant for any even tiny changes in the cat behaviour.. releasing pressure on the brain by draining fluid off the brain is one common surgery preformed if a Hydrocephalic cat hits a crisis…
One other thing to watch out for is bad weather… any up coming storms in your area… Hydro cats cat suffer a crisis if the pressure in the air is altered by an oncoming storm if they are going to have a crisis it will normally happen then..
Also he is quite young and small still if he’s 5 weeks old .. his skull could possibly grow at a different rate to his brain so be prepared for and watch out for any seizures… I know it all sounds scary but if your prepared for a crisis and have an emergency plan of action (your emergency vets phone number and discuss possible emergency calls at any time of day or night) then If anything does occur your better prepared to help him and speed is everything with Hydrocephalis. If you feel he goes down hill, has a sudden onset of loss of balance, a seizure or begins to act unusually like crying a lot of if he stops eat or has trouble swallowing ( that is another sign) something is after happening and he needs immediate attention.
I would also discuss with your vet in advance a payment plan for possible future treatments it puts your mind at ease if an emergency should occur…
I wish you all the best going forward and I pray it is a mild case of hydropecalis..
If you ever need to talk please feel free to PM me on our FB page I’ll be sure to see any Pm’s there relatively quickly ..
