I’m on here often talking about my boys, peanut and gumball. They’ve been making amazing progress at just over 5 weeks old, they’re slowly being weaned onto wet food after a visit to the vet which concluded in the doctor urging us to stop the formula unless it was being included in the wet food because they were underweight. One of the kittens has had absolutely no problems with the switch although he tends to be stubborn when it comes to eating on his own but the other has thrown up a few times now, and after a few bites of every meal his tummy does a kind of bubbly thing where you can physically see him kind of make a gag motion. I’m worried sick, I’m so incredibly attached to these babies and can’t stand the idea of losing one, I concluded that maybe the food he was eating was affecting him poorly so switched to a recommended dry food provided by the vet, I turned it into a bit of a wet mush with boiling water and a bit of formula but he seems uninterested, he hasn’t vomitted again but is a little less playful and rests more than he usually does or maybe I’m overthinking his actions but nonetheless any advice would help so much, I plan on calling the vet tomorrow and asking her what she recommends. Please keep my boys in your thoughts and if you have any recommendations or words to help put me at ease I would love it. They switched to wet food this Monday and the throwing up began yesterday morning (if that information helps)

    Hi Evelyn,

Have Gumball and Peanut been dewormed? If so, then try this: feed them gruel (milk and wet food). After that put them over your shoulder and burp them. The one may be more gassy. Has he shown any problem with his food before? Purrhaps, the food doesn’t settle for him. I believe they are too young to put on dry food. In fact, I don’t recommend dry food until 7-8 months.

Your wee tykes are in my thoughts.

@Pussigato they were dewormed! Would that have any affect on their eating habits? I woke up to him making that awful sound and his little body heaving but thankfully nothing came up this time all though he clearly still feels a bit sick. He also makes these little licking noise that sound like he’s thirsty but he’s drinking his water every now and then. He sleeps more than before. I’ve called his vet to see what steps I should take next considering it’s only having this effect on him and not his brother

Yes, dewormer can affect a kitten especially if they have a large worm burden, or if the medication just doesn’t agree with it. Your best bet is calling the vet, and make sure that he doesn’t get dehydrated. Usually, they pass the worms in their stool, so you can check their poop and see if you find any dead worms.

Just an update! I ended up taking peanut to the Vet and they gave him a quick look and agreed that he needed to get whatever was upsetting him out of his system, he’s a jumpy, hungry, pouncy mess again!
