My cat Scooter is gone. I have no proof, but with good reason I suspect a neighbor of killing him. Two other tenants cats also disappeared. I want desperately to move with my remaining cats before something happens to them, but unfortunately I do not have the means. Scooter was 13 years old and my best friend. My other 5 cats (all rescued, spayed and neutered) are about 1 year old, and I love them, but Scooter and I had much more of a history. Will I see Scooter in heaven? Most sources on the Net say probably not since there is no scriptural evidence. Please, I need to know the answer.

I believe so with all my heart and soul. How would heaven be heaven without our friends? I mean when God created Eden it was full of every kind of animal so of course heaven will have our animal friends. That article is a wonderful explanation of the biblical reasons why for Christians and Jews it is supported that there will be animals in heaven. 🙂 Not sure of your faith but maybe this will help.

Since heaven is suppose to be better than any of us can imagine, how could our cherished pets not be there? And if your god is a compassionate and loving god, how could he (or she) deny you the joy of being reunited with your pets.

I’m so sorry Scooter hasn’t come home. Please contact the police. They won’t be able to do anything, especially since you have no proof, but you will then be able to put up posters saying “Have you seen this cat? Went missing on (date). Police have been contacted.”

Thank you for the advice. I will contact the police tomorrow. And you are both right. Heaven wouldn’t be heaven at all without my best friend Scooter.

{{{{{KP}}}}} I can’t see why God would create these magnificent beings for us to love if he did not intend to reunite us. I’m not sure of your faith, but it seems to me that we are ALL God’s creations and that includes the animals. There are animals alongside human beings throughout The Bible, and Noah was commanded to save and preserve a pair of each so there would continue to be animals and people. I am so sorry for the fear and pain you have to suffer because of Scooter’s disappearance. I agree with CBM that you should report this to the police and your neighbors should too. Hopefully it will scare anyone in your building who is harming cats and they will stop. I’m sorry you are sad for Scooter KP.

I believe that everyone’s heaven is unique, and made up of all the things they loved, cherished and enjoyed on this earth–I truly believe that our beloved pets will be waiting for us when we get there. May you be blessed with all wonderful memories of Scooter and showered in love from your remaining kitties.

Please call Animal Control and whatever agencies there are that address animal abuse issues. The police should be notified as well, since animal abuse is considered at least a misdemeanor. And those who hurt pets must be held acountable for their actions. Don’t be afraid of them. They are trash.

    Scoooter

Scooter crouches in the green grass of the Meadow, smiling with pure joy. Standing over him, casting a long shadow, is the great Wolf of Gubbio, who gazes down at the little cat who trembles with excitement.

“They are all waiting for you, dear one,” and the Wolf nods toward the others as they come closer: Lucky and Lady, Wilbur, Mavvy, Kizzy, Tansey, Winston, Big Buc, Milo, Bomber, Sox — all of Scoooter’s new friends and playmates.

With a glad cry, Scooter launches himself at the oncoming cats, and the voices rise:

    “We heard you were coming!”

“How are you? Did the Wolf tell you about us?”

“Do you like lavender, or catmint? I LOVE it!”

“We can climb the Tree today — did you see the Brook?”

The small friends surround Scooter, who is whole and healthy. Scooter knows that he will join his mama when she comes for him across the Bridge, but for now he is in the care of the Wolf.

And the Wolf loves him dearly. Scooter is in his mama’s heart, and in the Wolf’s great heart, until the end of time.

But the heart of the Wolf has Scooter’s sorrowful memories tucked away within it, and those who sent this sweet creature to the Meadow are joined to those terrible thoughts.

Those people will hear his footsteps when he begins his journey to Eternity.

And no man may stop him once he starts.

Brava Emma! Once again your post is purrrrfect!

Kitten Poet, I do also believe I will be reunited with all I love (people I have loved and kitties that own my heart) when I make my journey! I love my kits fully and completely. How could heaven really be heaven without my furrrbabies. If they aren’t there, I don’t want to be either!

God Speed Scooter, Rest in peace sweet one.

    Thanks, Emma.

Kitten Poet: In one of his books, James Herriot, the vet who wrote the “All Creatures Great and Small” series, said that he believed that wherever we are going, our furry companions are going, too. It’s a thought, along with the Rainbow Bridge, that has brought a lot of comfort to me over the years.

Why would God keep from us those creatures who delighted us on earth and drew us closer to Him? 🙂

Emma. I just woke up, and the first thing I did was check my post. Still scratching the sleep out of my eyes, I read your wonderful story. Indeed, Scooter’s daddy misses him. I hope he gets along well with the other kitties until I arrive, since when he was here with me he only preferred human companionship. Quite the opposite of Will Rodgers, his stance was that he (never met a cat that he DID like)

Scooter’s constant resting place was my lap. He would crawl there upon my rising and stay there all day if I let him. Now another of my remaining kitties, who was always very affectionate, is timidly taking his place. Thank you for a beautiful vision, and the hope you have given me.

Now for you a few haiku.

    Persistent Piercing Paws

    My cat’s in my lap;

    Softly kneading with his claws,

    He gently draws blood.

    Dedicated to Lillian

    Ms. Braun’s latest book,

“The Cat Who Lost His Meow”,

    Is quiet reading.

    Faux Foe

    My kitty attacks,

    Viciously mauling, shredding,

    A fierce paper bag.

Scooter was the inspiration for these haiku as well as many of my poems. He was my muse and since I have memorized most of my poems, I simply have to reach inside to retrieve them. Conjuring up new ones is going to be problematic. Maybe in time.

    Thank you for your kindness.

And Debsterwiz thank you for your kind words. Gizzysauntie, I have read all of James Herriot’s books and now it is time for a re-read. Thank you.

Kitten Poet, please read Romans 8:18-23. It’s included in the pet funeral service I wrote.

Thank you for calling to my attention these comforting scriptures. Yes, I know that suffering is universal and the only hope we have is Christ. In the past I had dedicated my life to him, but have fallen away from my first love. It is time for rededication. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. If I want to see Scooter in the Meadow, I have to make sure I end up there myself.

Well, I believe that after Christ comes back there will be a new heaven and a new earth. I can’t wait to see what the new earth will be like – just think of how long God has been planning it, and planet earth only took him six days.

I think that the “New Earth” will be a beautiful (and fun!) place to be. No more pain and suffering…and we could do all the activities we loved on this earth (hiking, kayaking, biking, etc). The “New Heaven” will be, I think, more of a place to go for a few days, not where we will be spending all our time (unless we want to of course).

Long story short, yes I believe there will be animals in heaven. Perhaps even all sorts of new species of animals that are not here on this earth. I’m sure our cats/dogs/past pets will be there as well!

Oh, if Jesus comes back on a horse (according to Revelations) than how could there NOT be animals in heaven 😉
