Please call Animal Control and whatever agencies there are that address animal abuse issues. The police should be notified as well, since animal abuse is considered at least a misdemeanor. And those who hurt pets must be held acountable for their actions. Don’t be afraid of them. They are trash.
Scoooter
Scooter crouches in the green grass of the Meadow, smiling with pure joy. Standing over him, casting a long shadow, is the great Wolf of Gubbio, who gazes down at the little cat who trembles with excitement.
“They are all waiting for you, dear one,” and the Wolf nods toward the others as they come closer: Lucky and Lady, Wilbur, Mavvy, Kizzy, Tansey, Winston, Big Buc, Milo, Bomber, Sox — all of Scoooter’s new friends and playmates.
With a glad cry, Scooter launches himself at the oncoming cats, and the voices rise:
“We heard you were coming!”
“How are you? Did the Wolf tell you about us?”
“Do you like lavender, or catmint? I LOVE it!”
“We can climb the Tree today — did you see the Brook?”
The small friends surround Scooter, who is whole and healthy. Scooter knows that he will join his mama when she comes for him across the Bridge, but for now he is in the care of the Wolf.
And the Wolf loves him dearly. Scooter is in his mama’s heart, and in the Wolf’s great heart, until the end of time.
But the heart of the Wolf has Scooter’s sorrowful memories tucked away within it, and those who sent this sweet creature to the Meadow are joined to those terrible thoughts.
Those people will hear his footsteps when he begins his journey to Eternity.
And no man may stop him once he starts.
