    Hi everyone,
I work at a business on a large, rural site. Recently, others started talking about a cat and kittens that were living under a shed. Everytime the little family were spotted mama cat moved them on but, eventually, she seemed to settle in one area and we started putting food out. I have seem her a couple of times (very young, very nervous, very pretty) and the kittens several times (a tortie, a ginger tabby and a black and white – also all very pretty). Everyone looks healthy and strong. I think the kits are 7 weeks at least and I have been working with other cat friendly people, trying to sort a future for them and neutering for mama. Think I am finally getting somewhere. There is a charity that will catch mama and neuter, vaccinate, de-flea and worm (returning her same or next day). There is a lady visiting this afternoon (recommended by the local vet) who may be prepared to foster and socialise the kits. All I need to do is find the little tigers. I know they watch me when I put food down – I have heard them in the bushes. The food vanishes almost instantly too, so I am pretty sure they are based close by. However, I haven’t seen them for a couple of days. So…… wish me luck and, if you have any tips, they would be very welcome.

    Welcome to TDK land, Judith.

Thanks to you and your friends for caring about this fur family. Yes, TNR is the best idea because momma doesn’t know anywhere else. It’s important to get the kits now so they can be socialized. Tuna or another smelly fish is a good lure. Do you have traps?

Good Luck and keep in touch.

Yes- we have access to some traps and people who know how to use them safely. Also have a vet that will help and a charity that will cover the costs. Couldn’t find the family yesterday but we will continue to put food in the same place and will hopefully catch everyone next week. I have not done this before, so hope we are approaching things the right way. I always smile wistfully when TDK folk talk about kittens turning up on their doorsteps. That has never happened to me – you hardly ever see kittens around where I live. However, all the local charities are inundated at present. They say that they have never seen so many unwanted cats or feral cats and kits. So sad.

Welcome to TDK Judith, I hope you manage to get the family for TNR. I am sure the family will be close by even if you haven’t seen them. Nice smelly tuna, what cat could resist.
Please let us know how it all goes and maybe some photos of them so we can see how beautiful they are.

Yes, Dru’s my girl! I check in now and then but don’t always have a lot to say:) Almost everything I know about cats I’ve learned here- it has stood me in very good stead.

    Hi everyone,
thought you might like an update: We caught two of the kittens and mama cat today. She is a tiny girl – I’d be very suprised if she is much more that 7 months old herself. She very thin too, but maybe not completely feral. She was quiet and reasonably calm. The kittens are adorable. There were 2 others earlier in the week but we havent seen them for a couple of days and I think something bad may have happened to them. Will keep putting food out and looking for them in any case. Mama cat has gone to the vets for her op tomorrow – I called her Cleo, for their records, because of her beautifully outlined eyes (Cleopatra). They will check her for a microchip. If she is not completely feral then we have a lovely home lined up for her. If she is then she will come back here after she has been spayed and at least she won’t get get pregnant again and we can keep putting food out for her. The kittens will get a vet check and we have a home for them (just needs some checks done to be certain it is going to be perfect for them – formality really). I really want to post photos but cannot work out how to on this site – I need to take some time and try a few things.
I am working late tonight and had left the trap set in case the other 2 kittens turned up (was checking it every 1/2 hour). I just caught a very angry black and white cat. I would say it was someone’s pet as it looked well cared for. When I say angry, I mean REALLY angry! Let that one go straight away!
