The month of July represents freedom:

Today we celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday
Monday we celebrate USA’s 242nd birthday
On July 15th, we celebrate France’s 229th birthday
From Belgium to the Philippines, many countries celebrate their freedom in July.

Freedom is our right to choose our own path and to walk with whomever we choose. No one can take our freedom except ourselves. No one’s freedom is more important than any one else.

But this is the true meaning of freedom!!

‘Cats know how to obtain food without labor, shelter without confinement and love without penalties. W.L. George

May we all have a safe weekend and remember that feeling of spending time with family and friends and of course, kittahs!

Good night friends and sweet dreams.

I looked outside just as it was getting dark out. The cats were looking at something. Here it was the darling Doe that has a broken leg that just hangs there, with her twin spotted fawns. Awwww…. I was so happy for her. She is such a good mama. There was another deer with them as well. A buck. The babies were running back and forth between the two. They were just SO cute!!! What a treat to see them.
It rained pretty hard here late afternoon (yesterday, Friday) and then again in the evening. I spent some time in my bedroom cleaning two big shelves after taking all the magazines and papers off. Then I went through them for recycling. SO time consuming. But, I like to pull out any good pictures or stories first, that I may share with others. Changed the sheets and top blanket as well. Now it looks really nice in there!
Didn’t get everything done today that I planned, but Oh, well…. another day.
    Hope everyone enjoys their day!!

Our Saturday morning dawned very cold and possibly frosty but we slept in and missed any frost. It was just way to cozy and warm in bed to wake up and we were all three of us – yes Shadz was snuggled with us- were tired.
ECB, I did have a fairly restful day today and it was great. Just puttered around doing little jobs in the house and out in the garden but the wind was nippy despite the glorious sun.
KZ, chuckling about the toad in the black eyed Susan. Is that the flower or the vine of that name?
Lagatta your tart sounds delicious. I hope any postal strike doesn’t happen and you get your payments.
KJ, sorry about the washer, I hope your Fix-it guy can do just that and quickly and without too much $$$$$ being required from you.
Awww BB, the cats were keeping an eye on the doe. Poor thing with a broken leg though, sounds like your yard may be safe territory for her to relax a bit.
It’s evening now and the temperature has dropped again, the fire is going and dinner is in the oven.

MS you paint a cozy picture of cold outside, warm and snuggly with dinner smells wafting throughout the house! The black-eyed susan is the plant that the toad was running for and is a perennial. I love the vine, it comes in two colors here, yellow and orange, but they make it expensive and it’s an annual. I had one one year that I let grow up a trellis on the garage–it was stunning!
BB, it’s wonderful to clean out a bookshelf and get rid of things that have been nagging you for a while. I have several little places like that–and Mr. KZ makes them worse. I think he could be a hoarder, LOL!
Have a safe weekend everyone, whenever you decide to celebrate!

Hi everyone – loving the freedom pics, PG! Sorry your foot swelled up, hope it’s better now.
Hi BB – nice that the doe feels safe in your yard with her babies while she rests her leg. How fun for Chad and Gavin to be able to watch them! Oh what a feeling of accomplishment cleaning out those shelves! Seems there’s never enough time (or sometimes ambition) to get what you want done.
It sure is nice to stay in bed a little while longer and feel cozy on a chilly winter day.
KZ, I never thought much about a toad wanting to stay dry, but I suppose it makes sense. We have black eyed susans here too but they have not bloomed yet.
Super nasty storms rolled thru here late yesterday afternoon, evening and night. During the afternoon storm, I saw a bolt of lightening and almost instantly heard the thunder as well as the jingle of cat collars. Started downstairs only to see all three cats on the stairs looking at me! Today is sunny and there was a cool breeze coming in the window when I woke.
My sister found a hooded litterbox that is small enough to fit between the sink and shower upstairs. Now Comet can’t pee all over the vanity. *sigh* So far it’s working out well and looks better.
Hubby bought and grilled a huge steak the other evening. I don’t eat a lot of it, and there was a lot left over. The next evening we had steak wraps, and last night we had cheesesteak sandwiches. This morning I made an omelet with the leftover diced steak & onion and added red and green peppers and cheese. There’s still some left, and no, the cats aren’t getting any!

Steak is also nice sliced fine in an Asianish salad…

Good morning all, its was a very frosty start to Sunday here. The ground outside was all asparkle with ice ringing each blade. Brrrrr
When HRH finally got up she was straight out onto the balcony to toast herself in the sun. Love it how after a bitter frost you always get a glorious day.

KZ, the perennial we know as rudbeckia and the vine as thunbergia. Mum had the vine growing over a trellis for many years until it got a bit thin and old looking.
JJ, that must have been one heck of a steak to do all those meals.
Lagatta, I love steak slicked thinly and quickly stir fried with veg for an Asian style dish.

You are right MS, the black eyed susans are rudbeckia and the thunbergia is the vine. That’s the trouble with common names, it makes one associate (sometimes wrongly I think) that the plants are the same only one is a vine. Trouble is, here in Ohio, it is not a perennial as once it gets really cold it dies and is gone. I would have it in a couple of places that it’s perfect for, if only it wouldn’t die off. It grew in the the fence/trellis and was an absolute mess to try and cut the dead vines out of there come the following spring.
JJ, that IS a lot of meals for one steak–that sucker must have been HUGE! My black eyed susans haven’s bloomed yet either, although they are making up bloom heads.

    Evening!
Having basically slept all day I’m trying to finish up some work I’d planned for tomorrow. Landlord will come by to check out washer. And I’ve sent fix-it guy query as to whether he handles this sort of job. Washer is way old and parts might not be available, or (ideally) maybe just some screw needs tightening, but I won’t be fooling with it, much as I’m tempted to. Local laundromat is Plan B for now but not over long term as my own washer/dryer is included in rent, which is why landlord has to approve/pay for any fixing. years ago I in effect broke washer and repair was more expensive than buying a new one. We shall see.

    Hi everybody,

It was a good day. It rained from yesterday evening thru this morning and it was muggy. The neighborhood has been setting off fireworks for a week but we’re getting into the heavy duty ones now. *sigh* At least, Miss Gaea is coming in early. If I listen to my doctor by keeping my foot elevated, my foot won’t ache/swell. The only problem is I can’t much of anything. First world problems, for sure. Miss Moppet has spent most of the day in the catio.

My nephew’s 21 (twice) birthday is tomorrow. There will be much debauchery unless Theresa says otherwise. 😆

Awww BB-the doe and family were resting in your yard. She’s a strong girl to survive with an injury. You didn’t say how her leg was broken, do you know?

Snuggling in bed on a winter morning is the best. It’s good you got rest esp. after the last two days. I love how HRH has co-opted your bed.

Hi KJ. Maybe all the rest today will help you feel better. I have the same contract with my landlord. You are right about the costs of a washer and/or dryer. The prices have come down so much that paying for labor/repair is not practical.

I’m going to finish watching L&O: SUV.

Hopefully, the fireworks will end soon and we’ll all be just like this:

Happy Sunday! Lovely weather here in Jersey, sunny with a nice breeze. Looks like a heat wave is on the way later in the week.
I’m kitty sitting for niece this week. Theo and Moe are all grey kitties.
The town fireworks were last night, held in town about 8 miles away. Sat outside listening to the fireworks bounce off the various mountains. I think all of the cats were here, even Mama Cat, running around, climbing trees and demanding my attention. Nice that they seem to see my yard as safe.

I just sent off a rush translation (for a film festival). The client wanted it by noon today. I’ve been up since 5 a.m. as I was too tired to keep working after 10 p.m. (I’m a morning person).

The adolescent kitten/cat I promised to keep as we advertise “chatte trouvée” in the “chat perdu” sites is a balm to my catless heart. I don’t want another cat yet, but her (temporary, I hope) presence is so pleasant and she is such a beauty. She is entirely black, with a very short, shiny coat and green eyes.

Sometimes these temporary residents turn up at exactly the right moment, when your heart has a cat-shaped hole that needs filling. Even when they can’t stay long, they can be such a help with your healing.

I wish you both the very best of outcomes to this story – whether apart or otherwise.

    🙂

Enjoy your kitty visitor, lagatta. She sounds lovely.

Home now from our fun outings…dinner theater and lake. Both were fabulous. I have eight or nine small bream to pan fry for dinner. Younger son caught them all this morning. He’s had the hot hand lately. He and older son cleaned them themselves with an adult nearby to supervised. My uncle taught them to do it…and taught them well!

That she has lifted your spirits makes me happy for you lagatta. She has done exactly what she was supposed to do–give you a respite from the debilitating grief and give you hope.

lagatta, nice to hear that you have a kitty in your life, and I hope that caring for her helps ease your heartache somewhat.
So I think that I did well vis-a-vis my washer. My usual fix-it guy does not fix major appliances but he recommended someone. In the meantime I was rschg and one guy wanted $80 just to come over and give estimate. Landlord came by and we agreed to each continue our rsch. In the meantime other guy called and came over and for $45 (included $25 home visit) reinforced the timer, which had a spindly plastic piece that had broken off. He even stayed to ensure that the thing was doing its job. Machine purred like a kitten! $20 for repair – didn’t even bother asking landlord for permission as cannot get much lower rate. Hopefully machine will continue doing it’s job for long time.
Looks like posties cannot strike before Wed. As my yarn order has made it into Canada there is the off chance that I might get it by then. Not that I don’t have a sweater on the needle, but I so want to start this one as it’s a lovely cotton in a lovely shade of lilac, destined to be a classic short-sleeved summer sweater.

Good morning all, frosty white morning and now brilliant sunshine. It appears I didn’t log out lastnight, must have fallen asleep and headed to bed without checking computer. Oops.
Lagatta, lovely to hear you with a smile in your words, have fun with your ‘guest’ and I hope she finds a home one way or another.
Must fly, busy raking leaves and twigs before the lawn man arrives.
