It’s not just coming … it’s here! As in Winter in the Northern Hem. Literally looking on the bright side might be a bit difficult today, as it’s the shortest day of the year.

Finally, Ceiling and Basement cats meet….

Oh, sad day ๐Ÿ™ I don’t like Winter Solstice because it means Winter is out the door. Waaa!

This Wednesday and Thursday will be interesting for the gang. The roofers are starting tomorrow.

    Morning KJ ans PG ๐Ÿ™‚

Winter solstice is a MASSIVELY deal to us Irish it’s our true new year.. we’re all Druids at heart. my two sisters and nephew are already down at NewGrange to watch the sunrise by the tomb.. My dad and I will be closer to home.. beside the field we are building in is a ancient stone circle which happens to be a lunar winter solstice orientation.. (sun set) all stone circles have different end purpose depending on how the axis stone and the portal stones are positioned also some are sun set and some are specifically for sun rise.and some aren’t for winter or summer solstice at all but are for completely different purpose. I figure celebrating our new year where we are building and at an ancient stone circle that probably hasn’t seen anyone celebrate there in 100’s if not a thousand years is fitting.. realistically it’s probably not be celebrated there for close to 1000 years as soon as Christianity came to Ireland all worship of ancient Druid tombs was forbidden

That sounds really cool Buttons! I entered the lottery to be able to see the solstice at NewGrange when I visited it a few years back – didn’t win of course. A less crowded version at your own local circle sounds really neat. Cat Henge

    – I have a print of this painting, got it when I was living with several black kitties.

Happy Summer Solstice to Moonshadow and all other TDKers in the Southern Hemisphere!

We are having a little Solstice supper with a friend from Argentina who will soon be off to her native country in the austral summer… It is a long flight, practically the length of America if you exclude far northern and southern regions.

Since the Solstice is a natural occurrence, it can be observed by people of any faith or none, though as was pointed out upthread, at times religious authorities have outlawed it, as “superstition”. It seems normal that in times before gaslight or electricity people were terrified as the world became colder and colder, darker and darker…

Livia slept in until almost 7 a.m. She is very much affected by the light, but it only makes her sleep even more, but she is boundless activity when awake. She very much resents the expression “Basement Cat”.

The Summer Solstice day here is very important for many Indigenous peoples here and has become National Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Canada.

I will have to admit that I have always been fascinated by the winter solstice in particular, the return of the sun (and light) and how everything moves in circles. The ebb and flow of the tides, the earth turning around the sun somehow makes me feel calm and connected. Maybe it’s because my life is so connected to the earth, the soil and the seasons. We always know what the weather will be doing since our lives revolve around sun, wind, and rain. So sad for me that a religion forbids anything connected to the natural order of things.

Love the pics, especially the mysterious one about the whisper of the wind, and merry winter solstice.

MS, so glad you had a wonderful time, and a safe trip home and are back in your bed with HRH. Oh the stories that she will tell!

A happy winter solstice to all! Good luck with the kitties and the roofers tomorrow, PG.
I hope to channel some of the day’s magic into energy to do stuff.

    That’s one mega-size orangie JK!

Happy Solstice TDKers (be it Winter or Summer in your n’hood)!

Super bright outside, must make most of it as it will get dark earlier today!!!

Slept in a bit, as Wed. course not starting up again until 2017. And signed up for one that takes place in a.m. better for me I think.

Well JJ, I was able to channel energy into some Hazeling as in completely re-did bdrm bedding-wise with lots of laundry/folding into the bargain and the (still) somewhat onerous getting duvet into cover task.

Going to run some errands while dryer does its thing. Then a bit of work arrived. Then I wind my way to 6 pm spin class.

BTW tried the “Hot Chocolate” fr. dessert last night. Awful! Consigned to garbage as did not sit well with me at all. Oh well, will have to see if there’s something else that I can source out. Or purrhaps just stick with what I’ve bought previously.

I like Basement Cat and all black kitties. It’s just an LOL thing. Dorry would be a Staircase Cat as grey – not black, not white, in the middle. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Afternoon all! …. interesting about the winter solstice trivia. It’s actually chilly here today (76), but going up to low 80s for the rest of the week, actually couldn’t be more purrfect weather, especially for the millennials, who are both coming from cold – particularly DAU and SIL from snow!
I answered PG’s question at the end of yesterday’s cafรฉ thread about how our ‘visitin’ cousin cats will be housed. Mr. AV and Scottie have built a ‘cat loft’ that is accessed by Son’s bedroom, and we’ve installed a screen door on his entry door, so Lu and Ve can ‘talk’ to Abby, but no fighting will occur (and yes it would, Lu and Abbs are both Alphas) …. anywhoo, we’ve BTDT before, and it works well for everyone. Ve flew in this morning with Son’s friend, and Mr. AV picked her up from the airport. She’s already investigated the loft, used the litterbox, and eaten a bowl of crunchies …. missing Lu I gather, but she’ll be here tmrw morning with Son.

Doing some final Hazeling today, then begin the prep/cooking tomorrow …. have holiday music playing …..

You got your cleaning done *sigh of relief.* I was planning on doing that today but the kits were so upset with the roofing, I decided it could wait a day or two.

I’m glad Venus made it to Grandmeow home. I see Grandmeow and Grandpurr have built the house around the kits.

Well, the kits survived day one of the roofers. Of the gang, I thought LilBit would be hiding all day. Instead, he stayed by me and Miss Gaea was in the back of closet. Miss Moppet couldn’t decide which way to go so was in and out.

In response to your post JK!

    Getting ready for Vikings.

I’m confused….again. We’re in Season 4, part deux 2 through 12/28/16 and then it picks up on 1/4 through 2/4. I thought we were in season 5 but that doesn’t start until whenever…arrgh!

    Anyway

Fairly productive day on this solstice. The crud set me back a few days in terms of getting things ready for the holidays, but today was the first day I was able to do things without having to rest. It’s finally beginning to look like Christmas at my house!
Replaced bedding top to bottom yesterday, with Comet’s supervision/help.

JJ as saying goes … great minds … LOL. I did bedding thing too! Looks like a brand new room! Dorry wanted to help, in his furry own way which is no help at all. At one point had to close bdrm door so that I could complete the job. Then had fun time as using vac hose to suck air out of bags storing switched cushions.

Spin class was beyond awesome tonite. The class consisted of peeps really into it with gr8 team spirit. Now simultaneously exhausted yet charged up.

PG, I watched beginning of tonite’s “Vikings” ep. Saving the rest for tomorrow. Not sure if you’ve watched it, no spoilers here. But I was a bit surprised from the bit that I’ve seen.

I haven’t watched it yet, KJ. That’s great when everybody makes the workout hard but fun.

Glad you can finally breath JJ. I hope you kick the crud by Sunday. The bed making is always a challenge when decide to help out. I close the door too and you’d think I got tails in a rocking chair.

Everyone is so busy with preparations! I don’t really do much at all. Merlin and I will have our usual quiet day together – and I’ll give him a specially nice lunch.

He’s always been a fish lover, and his current favourite is tuna loin, so I’ve got one hidden away for him on Sunday.

We just had yummy lunch from local Italian place. Veggie Lasagna, big salad plus Italian Beef Sandwiches for meat eaters! Sweet treats & more munchies to tide us over all day ๐Ÿ˜‰
Brutie mooching for samples – we have biscuits for him instead!

OK, must get back to fun – will do gift exchange soon!

    Wishing all an enjoyable afternoon!
