Credit card debt can have a crushing and devastating affect on one’s life. And did you know? If one only pays the minimum amount due each month, it will seemingly take forever to pay off the balance. That’s exactly what credit card companies are hoping peeps do.

I’ve never owed $$$ on a credit card, even though all know that I love shopping, I pay on time. Was brought up to feel that carrying any debt was an anathema. Probably same reason why I ever owned my place. We aways rented.

“…and playful girz catz and it all comez in BOXZ!” On noes-not playful girlz! 😀 Fluffy learned how to use credit cards!

Credit card debt can be devastating. I was in serious debt for many years but finally got out from under it. I wish someone had taught me about credit and checking accounts when I was growing up.

looking, looking, looking for a new place.

    Have a happy~

I always refused to have one after I rang up a small debt with a store credit card. I paid the debt off and cut the card up. Because of debit cards for some time now, I’d never felt the need for a credit card, but nowadays there are some purchases that are hard to make without them. And I don’t have an “employer” now, so it would be harder to get one. When I was at university, especially as a grad student, they were falling over each other to offer them to me…

I keep 2 credit cards, one for purrsonal expenses one for business, makes it easier for taxes. I think that if I use my debit card over a certain amount of times I incur charges, not sure.

PG, is is possible for you to get a rental agent involved in your search for a new place? I don’t know all that much about this, but I believe that you don’t pay them but they get commission from the landlord. Just a thought as this is my plan. Plus agents can negotiate and have access to listings that are not advertised.

Started a new Coursera course, based on Biblical history and must get down to it as it started this week and I like to get ahead.

Greetings from snowy New Jersey! Trekked across the lake earlier when it was “not that bad.” It was pretty bad and I’m glad to be home and indoors. Had to stock the cats up as I’m working all day tomorrow and will probably not get over there till later on Friday. China, the white cat, let me briefly pet her today after allowing me a glimpse of her yesterday. Also today I got my first glimpse of Jupiter, their black cat, who watched my every move from the safety of the loft.

I’ve had the 3 major credit cards for many years. Like KJ, one is used for business and tax-related expenses, another is what I use for my purrsonal expenses, and the 3rd is there, just because. Have never carried a balance; was brought up with the mindset of not purchasing anything that I couldn’t really afford.

It started snowing around daybreak, and there’s at least a few inches, but hard to tell with all the blowing and drifting. It’s odd to hear the birds sing their spring songs in this weather!

Brought up with same ‘tude re carrying balance JJ. Our news reports are reporting very bad weather in your n’hood – stay in and safe, you and kits if at all pawsible.

The kittah is so cute, JK. 😛

I guess you’re dang tired of storms, JJ. Who are China and Jupiter?

Yes, I do have two people helping me. David is in Denver and Eric is in Colorado Springs. The annoying part is I’m not their only client so they won’t jump when I say so. Horrors – 😡

I’ve seen places in both areas but the ones I’ve looked, well, it’s taken within an one but no longer than 24 hours. I’ve been doing a lot of research on my own, though.

No one ever talked about money or credit in our house so I learned the hard way.

The sun is out and Miss Gaea is loving it. There a bugs in the yard so I was watching her doing bunny hops. LilBit and Miss Moppet get their sun lounging on the bed. What a life!

That Maine Coon is … very impressive. A show winner would certainly be expensive, and that thing very expensive to feed. Imagine they have larger “droppings” than my tiny Livia too. Beautiful cat though, and doubtless a great bed-warmer.

I think I have no debt whatsoever right now, but saying that is courting disaster. There are no charges for use of the debit card I use most often.

I don’t particularly care for shopping, but it is necessary at times. I actually bought FOUR pairs of jeans this past month or so, because the Reitmans’ chain had 70% off garments on liquidation: one black, one deep violet-red, two dark denim wash. But no luck finding the skirt I want!

The jeans came to about $20 (Canadian) each, including taxes, so that was not a particularly expensive series of purchases.

Rental agents can be useful, but I’ve always found that just walking around areas where I would want to rent is very important. Some small landlords just put up a sign, rather than taking out an ad or putting it up on social media sites.

Well, KJ and JJ, it looks like our parents must all have been of one mind because I was taught at an early age to learn how to manage a checkbook and not overextend myself too. I have some store credit cards but I don’t use them. The one I really enjoy gives me cash back for everything I buy with it and I have purchased many ‘gifts’ for myself with it. I never carry a balance either (I use my credit card like cash) because if I can’t afford it, I won’t buy it. I pay my balance each month and Mr. KZ gets his own number on my account and I use his for our farm business. I love the app on my phone, because everytime there is a purchase on my card it ‘dings’…hence, if someone is using my card without my permission then I’ll know about it immediately!!

Winter storm here today too and I’m lucky I don’t live on a mountain like you JJ! The roads were not that good, but were okay so I could get my hair done and get back with no problems. Seriously, if you slow down driving you can pretty much do what you like, but some people just will not drive according to road conditions!! One such lady driver slid off the road into someone’s mail box on a curve and a hill–GOOD! (I sound like Grump Cat) that way she poses no risk to anyone else for a while!

Hi PG, China and Jupiter are the kitties I’m watching while my neighbor across the lake is in sunny Florida.

The news says we have about 8″ of new snow. It’s cozy warm here in my little house in the mountains. I held Comet and then Leela outside for a few minutes this morning. Stop laughing, they wanted to go out! A gust of wind driven snow in their faces changed their minds! Dewey and Berta have not shown any interest in going out, and Star and Huey have been in to eat. No sign of Mama Cat; she is most likely hunkered down and will come out when the storm passes.

PG, efurryone should “jump” when you say so – if they’re not jumping when I say so, that is!

That Maine Coone is a lotta purry to love!

Lagatta, IMHO, you got a fab deal on those jeans and it’s a good plan to buy something in efurry shade, if price is good and you like them. And of course denim will always be in style.

A work colleague never balanced bank acct unless he discovered that he overspent! I don’t get it – I always ensure that my balance is correct at times even calling bank to go through it with me if I am at all off.

For sure I keep my eyes open as I walk through n’hood for “Rent” signs, best to cover all bases. But it’s way early as my lease runs until end of 2018 and anyone renting wants to rent now. And I like getting things done ASAP, so I just have to get with the program. *Sigh*

Hey JK – looks like it’s a 25 bottles of wine kind of day! I did indulge in a shot of Kahula in my hot chocolate earlier today!

Right now I have Star and Huey inside, in addition to Berta and Dewey. Makes me so happy!

Good afternoon all, ugh it’s just beginning to rain here. We are supposed to get rain or showers over the next week. 🙁 I think Autumn is beginning to arrive.
JJ and KJ and KZ, when I was growing up cheque books didn’t exist really for the ordinary person, mainly for businesss. Mum and Dad didn’t have a cheque book or credit card until well into their later years so I was never taught how to manage or balance a cheque book but my natural aversion to spending money and habit of squirreling it instead has been beneficial. When the girls were little they were under pressure and of course us to purchase name brands and the latest fashions/fads but I refused as they would grow out of them so quickly it would not have been money well spent or value for money. Later when they girls were at university they both expressed their thanks to us that they had been brought up that way as they were able to manage their meager student allowance and pay rent and still eat. It’s all about living within your means.
We have business and personal credit cards but they are always paid off fully at the first opportunity.
Brrrr JJ, so happy you were able to get to feed China and Jupiter and get there and back safely. I hope the snow stops soon.
Oh KZ you are getting the storm too, glad you were able to get in to have your hair done.
JJ, that is lovely that you held Leela and Comet outside for some Winter wind and chill on their faces. I just wish I could get HRH to come inside, she still refuses to come in unless she is using the the house as a short cut to the other door.
Lunch time here and I need to put the grocery shopping away first.

Whooooooooooooo, it may be a hot sunny day here, the earlier rain was just a brief shower but in the central area of the country it’s pouring rain and 13C and cold and then in the deep south of the country it is snowing in parts, happily on a ski field. Typical Autumnal weather for NZ, four seasons in one day.

Been burned by credit card debt in past, but now practice no usury … use one for biz and one for pers. get the fly miles and pay off every month, no exception. Easy trap, but lesson learned ….
