Hey i just wanted to say one quick thing about putting vegitable/olive oil or karo syrop or any other type of stuff into a kittens formula.
I contacted atleast 4 vets and many vet techs and people who work at shelters when my little kitten was constipated, and most of them had no idea weather that would be a good idea or not. But two vets and one vet tech (that raised 29 kittens last year) told me it was an EXTREAMLY bad idea. They told me that olive oil was to acidic (i think or somthing like that) vegitable oil could very easily give them bad diahrea if they are alittle too young and there digestive/immune systems arnt very good, or if they didnt get the first two days of mothers milk. I was also strongly advised not to use karo syrup as it most likely will mess her blood sugar up badly and that could have ill effects.
The best thing that you can do is give them water, or try the magical lubricated thermomitor trick (talk to a vet before you try that)
From my experiance, and talking to people with alot more experiance then me, i have found that kittens usualy are not constipated if they havent pooped in two or three days, espechaly if you are just starting to give him artifishal formula. Kittens should have a poop around once a day, but it is compleatly normal and very common for kittens to skip a day or so.
It is very easy to get paniced and start trying all kinds of things that may actualy hurt the kitten, when in reality there is nothing wrong at all. If a kitten stops eating or if there belly is very hard (witch is usualy because of worms but can be from constipation) or if it becomes lethargic, its gums are pail, or if it is continualy crying for no other reason, then it is time to be concerned. Please keep in mind that its allways a good idea to get more then one vets opinion.
I am so glad that nugget pooped, beleve me i know how you felt. It sounds like you are doing a great job, keep it up and i cant wait to hear how nugget is doing in the next fue days, keep us posted!
