Susie, I almost lost my cat Scarlett to liver disease several years ago. She was actually sent home to die, because after a week at the vet her numbers got worse. I made her comfortable at home and gave her baby food every few hours. When she survived the next few days we switched to petromalt? I think that was the name of it–a high vitamin food in a tube like toothpaste. Getting her to eat was very, very difficult, and she ate so little that she did not have a bowel movement for over two weeks and she rarely even urinated. She was very, very weak. But let me tell you something important–THE LIVER CAN REGENERATE, EVEN IF ONLY A SMALL PORTION IS FUNCTIONING. What made us FINALLY turn the corner was when the vet put her on an appetite stimulant. I had to get it at the pharmacy, open the capsule and sprinkle a tiny bit on the baby food before giving it to her in the syringe. The next morning, she was ravenous! I think I measured wrong! Anyway, once she was eating on her own she started to get better. But the time from diagnosis to when she started getting better was about 4-6 weeks. So, don’t give up on Cowboy yet! His liver might even now be starting to regenerate. My cat was 8 years old when this happened and lived to be 19. DO NOT GIVE UP. He is probably not in pain or anything, just feels a little sick, so there is no reason to put him to sleep for this. Give him a chance to heal himself and stay with you. It’s not over yet!
