Farah, baking soda is pure bicarbonate of soda (sodium bicarbonate). Baking powder is bicarbonate of soda plus cream of tartar and starch. So you could use baking powder, I think, but you would have to use a bit more.

Thanks JCat…I should have gone in my kitchen and looked at my box of baking soda and my baking powder to explain the difference. I never really even knew the difference……lol.

Thank you so much Jcat and Kittyzee, I am learning new and useful things from you , u are amazing, thank you for your time and effort and listening to me

Lucy is fading, I don’t think she has much to live, she is now practically skin and bones and her eyes are dull, she crawls to the kitchen and just sleep in the middle of it and she won’t even lift herself and go to her literbox and just pee in her blanket,I try and keep her warm and hug her to my bare skin to try and raise her body temperature ,but no use.

I got a vet’s number and called him, his assisstant answered telling me he left Iraq due to bad security situation and when I asked him about my kitten, he asked what type it is (Thinking its some Persian kitten or some other breed) I told him she was a street kitten and no particular breed, he laughed and said that he thought it was an expensive cat if i was making all this fuss and told me to give her cow’s milk, I hung up in his face.
Anyway, Maluce is showing some signs of Lucy’s condition, even though so far, she is active (she even stole the chicken from my cat (Tuna) and ran off with it,making Tuna cry ).

Try smearing some honey on the roof of Lucy’s mouth. If she is crashing from low blood sugar, it may help her get enough energy to take a little formula. I hope that Maluce stays well but with such tiny kittens, it is not easy to keep them alive.
That vet’s assistant was a total jerk. Every life is valuable. I’m glad you hung up on him. He doesn’t know a thing anyway, if he’s recommending cow’s milk, he’s an idiot.
Does Tuna have all her shots? I am worried that if Maluce gets sick, she may pass it on to Tuna.
I am so sorry about Lucy. Poor little one. All of us who have tried to help orphaned kittens have lost some of them, so I know how you feel and it is horrible. But you rescued her from the street, you are giving her love and comfort and warmth and shelter and food and care, that is all you can do and so much more than most little stray kittens ever get. Without you, she would have had a horrible death; with you, she has known love and been looked after and she has gotten the best possible chance at life. I think you’re a wonderful person for doing what you’re doing and wish you and your little ones all the best. Keep letting us know what is happening, we do not want you to go through this terrible time alone.

No,she doesn’t have her shots, Tuna stumbled on our house from outside and was adopted by one my cats who had kittens around same age as Tuna and she seems to be doing well. she is very friendly and she didn’t even hit Maluce when the latter stole her food but only complained.
As for that assistant, yeah, many here are jerks towards animals, in fact, these two kittens were thrown into the street without mercy as well as many others , I see many small bodies on my way to work every day and they break my heart but that’s how life is worth to others.
Maluce is taking a liking to raw chicken and she climbs my leg when she is hungry and won’t rest till she has her fill,Lucy has taken some raw chicken as well, I gave her some since she showed interest in it and meowed when she smelled it.is that ok?
I am still giving her water (mixed with sugar, salt and baking powder as suggested by Jcat) as well as her milk formula, but may I ask when shall she show signs of improvements? is it normal to take this long? I am not shying away from the responsibilities but I want to know if im on the right path

Thank you again both of you for advice and help, you are amazing people and I am lucky to know you.

and now Maluce is climbing me and sitting on my shoulder 🙂

Sending blessings that Lucy somehow pulls through and that the other kits thrive. As for that assistant, my comments would be unprintable in a family-friendly forum. Good that you hung up on him.

Farah, your loving nature and your rescue of these kittens has touched my heart. In the midst of all the problems in your country, that you have taken a loving stand against cruelty, I am so humbled. Love starts in such small ways as this, and look how far reaching it is, clear across the world. You are so brave to hang up on the vet’s assistant, the vet himself probably wouldn’t have been much better. Like JCat said, every life is valuable and precious, and worth trying to help and stop suffering. You are doing as much as you can for these kittens, I would think the raw chicken would be good, as some feed their cats totally raw diets. Keep giving her food when she wants it along with the milk and pedialyte mixture. If she has no other problems which we can’t foresee, she should slowly improve due to your constant care. She has had a rough start in life, so it’s hard to predict about improvements. However, since she is wanting food that in itself is a good sign.

Sending healing prayers and hugs to you and your babies!

Thank you so much for your words and encouragement Kittyzee and all, I can’t thank you enough you wonderful people

about Lucy, indeed she had a rough start, When I first found her, it was two days or so after i found her sister and at first I thought that she was dead but upon closer inspection found out that she was alive but was very weak as she was left in the sun and heat and no food or water for two whole days and I think that is part of her problem , maybe she was damaged so much because of that?anyway I put my sisters on watch to feed her and her sis in case I am away.

As for the honey, I have put some for Lucy.

Thank you again and I am sorry for bothering you so much

I haven’t provided much help, but I believe that I can speak for TDK’ers in that you are not being bothersome at all.

I’m so sorry Farah. Little Lucy is whole and well again waiting for you at the Meadow. Remember she knew only love and being taken well care of from you Farah, sometimes their lives here with us is just way too short. Take care and let us know how you are Maluce are doing.
