This Special Day is set aside for cleaning out one’s refrigerator , top to bottom. When it comes to food safety, we’re exhorted to rely on the old saying: “When in doubt, throw it out!”

I would assume that no kit was harmed in taking following pic (Photoshop I’d reckon)

Paws up in admitting that even in my srsly unfilled fridge things happen.

Just this wknd sensed that something was not good. Careful investigation revealed that dairy compartment was storing goat’s milk cheese, from a phase which is now gone (although I’ve stayed with drinking only goat’s milk, just like a wee kit, only different!) The cheese was long overdue for the garbage can. Some canned lima beans also met the same fate. 😉

    Crossover pic –

    Who knew

I’m sure we have experienced this at least once.
Yes KJ, soft cheeses have a nasty habit of becoming less than friendly to be around when forgotten. mine is/was feta and it us now bagged and in the freezer until rubbish day.
Daughter made it home safely, workmate drove her to station where her car was parked as trains were only going every hour. Short drive home was much longer due to slips and crowded roads.

Hi guys! So glad to see MS here and doing okay. I popped in on Sunday just to check when I saw the headlines.

So, have I confessed here before that I have a sick fascination with presidential elections? They are like Christmas that only comes every four years to me. Anyways, my internet breaks have been spent reading analysis, news, etc… But I’ve been missing you guys! No comment here, of course, other than…interesting!

Hurricane Matthew forced me to clean out the fridge so we’re good there for a while. I’m always afraid Eko is going to get decapitated by my freezer door much like the photoshopped kitty. Let’s just say he’s stealthy and nosy and I’m afraid I won’t notice he’s there when I close the door someday. (It’s a drawer at the bottom freezer and he likes to stick his head behind it while I dig through the freezer).

This afternoon younger son has his first group performance for violin…just a small gathering at his teacher’s house. He’s doing so well and this is sooo good for him. I’m really enjoying observing the process too. I’m so proud of older son too…he’s a natural student, really, and is taking to the academic rigor of 8th grade classes away from home like a pro. On his work from home days (Tues, Thurs, and Fri) he only consults with me on things that his teachers require me to be involved with (mostly things like checking his algebra work…there’s a solutions manual thankfully).

Hope everyone here has been well!

Morning all! Hi EC, glad to see you back! … sounds like your boys are doing fantastic! …. my kids took violin in middle school, and really liked it, too bad they didn’t stick with it, but it was both their instruments of choice ….
MS, I hope the quakes in your region are gone, I’m glad all our TDKers are safe, and sending prayers for those Kiwis that were injured or lost their lives ….. I cannot imagine how terrifying that must be!
KJ, my refrig. went through a healthy clean out just recently, as I bought a new one, so in transferring stuff, I most definitely used the ‘when in doubt throw it out’ rule ….. condiments are my most likely culprits of ‘been in there too long’ …. I just don’t use them up fast enough with just me and Mr. AV now.
Time for me to get busy, a full day of input, plus meeting some girl friends for lunch to celebrate a birthday …. have a great day all!

Morning everyone! Good to see you ECB, have been missing you! Sounds like your boys just hit the ground running with their school work no matter where it takes place. Lucky you!
My fridge needs a serious cleanout but I don’t think it will be today. My problem is partial jars of pickles that get pushed to the back never to be seen again. When Mr. KZ puts things away, he just sits them on the edge of the fridge shelf up front… 🙄 even if there is a 1/4 inch of whatever it is inside….
MS, so glad you and those you love are safe. You have to be shaken up for sure. I cannot imagine how that must feel. I have felt a small earthquake here many years ago, but nothing like what you have endured.

KJ, you made me laugh with your goat cheese and lima beans! I freaked out the other day when I found a hunk of cheese in a plastic bag that looked like the creature from the black lagoon. It got shoved to the back of the deli drawer and WOW was it ever scary!

Good morning – lampshade kitty really cracks me up!
Hi ECB! So happy to hear the boys are doing well. It’s great that younger son has taken to the violin so well and awesome that older son has taken to school outside the home so well. You have a couple of very well rounded kids!
My fridge got a good cleanout after superstorm sandy, but that was five years ago. I clean sections so it’s not too bad but it could still use a good overall cleaning. I too have something in the freezer waiting for garbage day.
It’s a rainy day here in Jersey, which is always challenging when it comes to feeding the outside crew. The rain is sorely needed though, as there are wildfires around, and living in the woods makes it a big concern. Dewey was inside for a while this morning, but went outside to eat with his family. What a relief to let him in and not have to rush to pick up food and water!

    Good to see you ECB!

Well I’m srsly into keeping my refrigerator srsly clean, but guess that I’ll just have to check more often. Before Passover I just about take the whole thing apart, being xtra careful with the glass shelf. OK, and sometimes during the year, too.

On way back from gym I took minor tumble. Thankfully knee (which thank G-d has majorly improved) not srsly involved. But both knees bruised. And left thumb (good that I’m a righty so this won’t impact knitting, etc.) Just a bit sore. And i will be srsly bruised as per usual. Asked pharmacist, they tend to be helpful in health issues and for sure not even minorly sprained, just a tad sore. So the pain meds for no purrticular reason/arnica/ice deal. Anyway seeing GP tomorrow so can always ask her. Don’t want to use up physio unless it gets way worse. How obvious is it that I easily go into panic mode esp w/injury issues. You needn’t answer. LOL.

So, for those who kindly asked, here’s pic of new street-find bdrm chair which I managed to match to street find (and re-painted dresser, the one designated to store tights only.) Even I’m impressed with colour match to walls (original shade.) And I’m somewhat of a purrfectionist. “Somewhat KJ?” 😆

Shelf unit in pic is also street-find as is foot stool. Pillow has very wise saying “Cats make kindly masters, just so long as you remember your place.” Truer words wore never spoken!

I’m wanting to tell what happens next but no spoiler alerts, KJ.

Poor Muffin 😥 I can see lampshade cat doing just that jump! So far I haven’t had to fumigate my fridge but living alone, I don’t always check everything. AV-I’m with you on the condiments. It would be nice if they invented smaller bottles of them so I wouldn’t waste them. *sigh*

Airy has a couple of awesome kits if they don’t mind the tremors. I see pictures of the damage and the roads are a mess so I’m sure you’re glad Dau made it home.

Hi ECB! You’ve been busy the last few days with the politics. When my gr. niece started playing the violin, she just bloomed. It’s great your son is doing the same with his lessons. Learning the intricacies of an instrument is hard and worthy of praise. His first performance is so exciting so let us know how your son does in his first performance. Checking son’s homework? Esp. math? I would absolutely need the manual. So what are you doing with your time now that your boys aren’t home all the time?

We’re suppose to get rain/snow on Thursday and possibly on Friday. Like JJ, it is sooo dry here and we need the precip. Night time temps. are going into the 20s/-6f and I can’t be happier!!! 😛

I’m telling myself to clean the windows *sigh*

    Cya l8r and have a happy~

Actually, a lot of our fridges are very poorly designed. I’ve seen fridges in Europe that have more pull-out drawers and are far easier to clean, especially for people who have a hard time bending over.

I do eat only goat’s and ewe’s milk cheeses, because of a strong intolerance to cow’s milk – I had a life-threatening allergy to it as a child. I guess I really am part cat.

Yesterday I cleaned out my vegetable drawer. For all my efforts, there were a couple of mummified food items.

Pussigato, how I hate being cold! We are supposed to get rain tonight but no freezing temps so far.

    Hi all.
Good to see you again EC. I have to admit this latest US election had certainly provided us with plenty to read about, even in other countries.
Sounds like your boys are doing well with their music and school away from home.
Waving to AV, how are your ‘wetkits’?
KZ, I understand the partial jars of pickles, I also have mustards, ginger and garlic etc. The only one that never lingers is the onion marmalade.
    Waving to JJ.
KJ, ouchy for the grazed knees and thumb. Your chair looks amazing and what a fantastic to the re-painted street find dresser.
PG, we have smaller jars here not the huge jars that tend to be the norm in the US and they still manage to amass with a tiny amount in the bottom.
Well what a day so far. Headed off with my mobility group and we walked around the local volcano, a distance of just on 3km(1.8miles). We all made it but got drenched by rain on the home straight. We dripped our way to a Cafe for a welcome hot coffee.
Quake news – It doesn’t get better sadly. There have been over 1700 aftershocks so far, they are still happening every few minutes but are getting lighter. Having said that a large one could and most likely will happen any time. In our capital city Wellington one building is in dire condition and could collapse(it’s an 8 storey building) when another strong quake hits and several more have been evacuated because debris is falling from them or cracking was heard. The city also had a months rain in 6 hours with resulting flooding, slips and road closures and now another storm is headed their way. In the South Island the area isolated by massive slips now has helicopters and the NZ Navy evacuating stranded tourists and some locals with US Navy vessel on the way and also en route are Australian and Canadian Navy vessels here for the NZ Navy 75th birthday celebrations. The sea floor in the area where these evacuations of people is happening has been thrust over 6 feet up out of the ocean. More buildings in Wellington are being evacuated because of stability problems. Wellington is over 200km(124miles) from the quake epicentre but it has really been badly affected. There is a lot of damage to buildings and infrastructure especially roads that may take a ling time to repair.

MS, Sorry for what earthquake has wrought in NZ. But glad that Airy and your friends/family are safe and sound. Sounds like that was some walk! And the mobility program sounds well-designed with activities that don’t find you stuck in a gym all the time, with opp to chat with peeps with similar issues.

My next DIY project could be DIY pictures. N. and I found a huge stash of unpainted wood crown mouldings of all sizes, being trashed! Labels still on them, like someone was doing deco and bought too many. A relatively local hardware/deco store has clerk who lets me take good size samples of high-quality wallpaper. For free. I’ve told him that they are for deco purposes with no intentions to paper my rooms and he’s fine with this. Some terrif ideas on I’Net. N. will be taking some mouldings, including the longer ones to do midway mouldings in her place.

Lagatta, what with my goat milk passion, and purrsonality, for sure I must be part cat! Our weather has been fantastic. I know that my outdoor biker cohorts truly appreciate this. 🙂

Must get to bed earlier than last nite (3:30 am!) Tomorrow is busy day. Appt mid-am, then plan to get some noms at Second Cup at hptl near appt bldg. Not that I like going into hptl for any reason, but this café branch is kosher which is purrfect. Find café coffee too strong, but now have learned that I can ask for a “one-shot latte” which works better for me. Then Philo course, then home for a bit, then gym. Tired out already. *Sigh*

Lagatta I had to chuckle at your mummified description, very appropriate. I find mummified carrots more than any other vegetable.
KJ, Mother Nature has certainly been vicious this time. Your next DIY project sounds good. The kindling I buy is also wood mouldings of many shapes and I have often thought of doing something with them but end u[ setting the nest days fire with them. I think they are seconds because of blemishes in the wood. That would add character to any DIY project I think.

Panic, you? 🙄 How difficult is it to find a kosher café?

I love the chair, KJ. You have a good eye for decorating and color.

Paws crossed that no one else is hurt or worse in the tremors. I’m glad the Navies are helping our Kiwi folks.

Lagatta-When I went back to New Mexico, from Iceland, I loved the heat. After 12 years, I left for Denver. Initially, I couldn’t wear enough clothes in the wintertime. I bundled up just to get the paper. 9 years later-I wear sandals or barefoot to get the paper. I hate the heat because my logic is I can only take off so many clothes.

I texted Buttons. She’s doing good but is over her head in stuff!

MS, “flaws” in wood do add an added touch. I think that some peeps deliberately “age” pieces. Anyway, point in time frame idea is just that, I have so many pics (finds) that I rotate. I actually do change up soft furnishings, drapes, pics each season, gives place an entire new look. And keeping busy is key to keeping sane (more or less.) 😆

PG, panic is my middle name and it does me dis-service big-time. Fortunate that the good peeps in my corner put up with me. Did call physio and yeah, I banged my thumb and it should be fine with a bit of time. Well, we agreed better to throw out hands to catch oneself than risking breaking one’s face. This is main reason why I dread icy winter streets. Cleats on boots help, but freezing rain chills me to the bone. And not cold-wise.

Strangely fall happened just as I was saying to self that knee doesn’t hurt or hardly at all. “Bli eyn hara” – Jewish term one can say so as not to tempt fate.

It’s not all that easy to find kosher café that is café style and in one’s area. There is one place nearby but I prefer a venue where I can be in and out without waiting for waitstaff, table etc. I’m not looking for a dining experience, just somewhere so as to avoid having to race home and DIY some sort of lunch.

Plus this Second Cup is part of the chain known for decent coffee. They get sammies/snacks etc. delivered from various kosher establishments and they are way good. Like spreads on baguettes! Muffins! Might even take some stuff home. 🙂
