Thursday – 24/12/2015 – National Egg Nog Day – It Comes But Once A Year!

So I’m wandering around the grocery store looking for eggnog. I thought it was in the dairy section but I couldn’t find it. There was a lady who asked about eggnog and they directed her (and me) to the special eggnog section. She asked me what brand I prefer and I told I like the brand that goes best with rum. hehe

Eggnog-the thick, almost pudding-like egg mixture which is the perfect vessel for alcohol.

It doesn’t seem as if you have very warm weather in NZ, for midsummer! A friend is leaving for her native Argentina on the 31st – weather forecast for Buenos Aires: Despejado MAX: 26°C MIN: 21°C H: 61% P: 1014 HPA She is from Buenos Aires province, but a much smaller town, so the air is much cleaner than in the huge city.

I had a very serious cow milk allergy as a child, so I never got into eggnog. I’ve had it at relatives’ and friends’, but it isn’t something I’d make, even though there is lots of non-dairy milk (and goat milk) available nowadays. Most of the world’s people are lactose intolerant to some extent.

I’d rather drink wine anyway… NZ has very good wines indeed nowadays! But for the moment I’m going back to bed, and having espresso come the sun, and later on some herbal tea… This thread does remind me that I want to buy some eggs. Spaghetti alla carbonara is very good – I don’t put any meat in it, if I want some red flecks it will be tomato or peppers.

Early morning here and I finally made it back here. Boy, my to do list has been long, between cleaning other people’s houses and cleaning my own (inlaws coming today for a two day visit). And I’m baking and cooking things ahead of time so I’m not busy on Christmas Day. It’s been fun though and I’m lucky to have the energy and good health to do it all.

Egg nog, yum! I was just telling the boys about my grandad’s homemade egg nog….so special. We have some store bought in the fridge, ready to open tonight….to be enjoyed with freshly stocked tins of cookies. :). I’m saving my sweet treat for breakfast…made pumpkin and cranberry breads to have along with the egg casserole. I’ll always take my splurge at breakfast….favorite meal of the day.

The cats are well. Leo sent his first email the other day. It said something like, “Drrrrfffffftttttttt.” I panicked when I saw he was sitting on my iPad, composing an email and I pushed send instead of cancel. Oops, I think the recipient got a kick out of it though. I know my boys sure got a laugh out of the whole thing.

I looked over yesterday’s care and everyone seems well. Hope you all have a Merry Day, celebrating in your own way. KJ, hope your Hanukkah was happy. It was early this year, wasn’t it?

Happy Christmas eve all! Love hearing about everyones preparations and excitment, and also those looking forward to a peaceful relaxing day – there’s something to be said for that 🙂

My household is busy, had niece, nephew and 85 year old mother help us decorate the tree yesterday, nephew is 13 and looks up to Son who is 27 and is really sweet to the young guy …. They did most of the work, I just ‘supervised’ … Lol then we met sis and bil for $1 a slice pizza and $1 beer at a local pub …. Then everyone came back to our house and we played games … So fun

And as if that wasn’t the perfect day, Son stayed up with me and we watched the original ‘Point Break’ – one of my fav movies, cause the remake is coming out in the next few days, and Son had never seen the first one!

So I slept in til 8 this am, and now getting ready to go brave the grocery and then start my day of cooking ! Have a great day everyone!!

ecbrown, “Drrrrfffffftttttttt’ is pretty much exactly the little sound Renzo makes if I get up at night (yes, usually to “change the waters”, so to speak) and am returning to bed. It is the sweetest little sound, and one cats make to each other.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE to all, and a very lovely day wished for everyone!!!! I also love reading about everyone’s traditions, and get togethers. It’s very windy here today. Was windy all night as well. Been hearing the wind chimes singing away. Love to lay in bed and listen to them!
I was finally able to get some of my favorite frozen blueberries and will make a smoothie in a bit. Starting to get hungry. Leftover pancakes for later.

Hi everyone – oh the pics are great! It is insanely warm here today, and very windy. I like egg nog, but in small quantities – there’s some store bought egg nog in the fridge for tonight and tomorrow and beyond…till it’s finished. I also happen to have some rum…
Well, it’s Christmas Day at MS’s house. Hope Santa made it there without getting too soggy. Those hefty boots he wears look like they’re ready for any weather the world has for him, except the beach, where he might want to trade them for a pair of flip flops! And I bet he found some treats for Shadz too, she’s been a good girl this year.

Here ya go, PG! …. the boys did well! …. well, the Merriness is cranking up here, I finished up my kitchen prep, got most of the table set for tomorrow, and fixin’ to get in the shower to head to Sis’s …. I’ll have a glass of Christmas cheer – a ‘loaded’ egg nog – hold the egg nog 😉 …. actually can’t stand the stuff, but then again, I don’t like milk ….
