ParticipantNative Americans (and Canadians!) were the first to harvest and boil the sap of the maple tree into a thick syrup. Pour real maple syrup onto pancakes or waffles. Or try warm maple syrup drizzled onto vanilla ice cream!

Good morning/night all! …. still warm here, but anticipating a cool front this weekend – maybe it will finally ‘feel’ like Christmas! … altho, I know those in the southern hemi, warm is the ‘feels like’ norm for your Christmas ….
…. I made a lovely white bean/chicken/spinach chili last night, I’m working on recipes for the holidays, and I think this one might be good for ‘the day after’ …. everyone will be short-ribbed out, so I thought I’d switch things up …. only a few more days of imputing required, then I get to relax and enjoy the holidays … have a great Thursday everyone!

JerseyJoanModeratorGood morning – all I can say about the pancakes & kitties pics is that’s what you get when you leave the pancakes out! Growing up I learned to never leave food out or unattended, and with Shaddo I learned that the rule includes chocolate milk!
Maple syrup is awesome! I don’t have it often, have to travel a few hours north to get the good stuff.
AV, that bean/chicken/spinach chili sounds delish! I’m making a chicken/stuffing/cheese casserole in the slow cooker today. After Christmas I usually make lasagna.
Fed the café kitties a bit early today, as rain is on the way. All six showed up, and they actually lined up facing the same direction when each was settled in front of a plate. Usually they eat facing whatever direction they were initially pointed in.17 December, 2015 at 3:51 pm #841723
KittyzeeParticipantMorning! AV, your chili sounds really good, soup is always good and always a hit around here. Quite a bit cooler here today, so I started the woodburner this morning. Cat bomb went off in the stove room, shrapnel cats everywhere! There is nothing like the heat from a wood stove, goes clear to your bones, where it’s needed most, LOL!

ParticipantKittyzee – I love the Cat bomb/shrapnel cats image! I have that happening frequently now, I was thinking of the feral kittens as popcorn cats the way they would scatter as I approach. Now they kind of go both ways, run towards me when they smell the food but away from people in general.

CatWScotiaParticipantI’ve never been introduced to maple syrup. Here we have pancakes with sugar and lemon juice, or if we’re feeling decadent, with a thick dollop of jam. Perhaps I’ll look out for some maple syrup, just as a change!

JeankitParticipantAw – caring for ferals is pawsome – they truly depend upon us but some too skittish to show they’re love in return.
Update: Haven’t seen Otto much at all – hoping he has a forever home, know a neighbor was also caring for him besides myself.
There are at least 2 newbies who have been frequenting the nomz more often. A black/white fluffer – big kit call him/? Kidoosh plus a
lighter large tabby. Had seen both around this year but never often when I was outside. Tabby kit seems more trusting…
We do what we can.OK, time for lunchtime RR – hey Tux, let’s cuddle – to the lounge chair…ah, this is the life eh kit…purrrrzzz…zzz…z
17 December, 2015 at 7:21 pm #841730KittyzeeParticipantTruffles Mom and PG, it is funny as there is a cat draped over the back of the sofa in there, one laying on the floor in front of the stove, one on the side, and one on a fleece throw on the loveseat. When they get too warm, they move into the other room~but that doesn’t happen too often. My cats like to be hot and sweaty, LOL!
And someone once told me that you couldn’t call cats and make them come to you. I stood on the porch and hollered “CAAAATTTSSSS!” in a high pitched sing songey tone and cats came from the barn, around the back side of the house tails up and running towards us. (This was back when I had many barn cats that people dumped out and had some kittens too.) I love calling cats and proved that cats do come when you call them, especially when they know they are getting fed.
Good on everyone who feeds and nurtures the ferals. They need full tummies and pets too, if they will let you.17 December, 2015 at 9:47 pm #841735ParticipantKZ, is that where the word “cat calls” comes from. Couldn’t resist LOL.
CSW, I would think that you could find maple syrup in the jam/molasses/honey section of major grocery store. It’s sorta like honey, but more liquid and tastes like maple, yes I know that last one is brilliant!
Back to yesterday’s choco theme, today in grocery store line, which is predictably next to candy stand, I noted that Ferrero Rocher chocolates are kosher!!! For me, how good is that? When I took off the gold foil I was not sure what I was in for. The crunchy shell revealing the liquid centre is inspiring! ParticipantGood evening all! Cold, damp and nasty here tonight. Chad now lays in front of my new heater. It throws heat across the floor and he is loving it! Poor skinny thing is always cold.
I plan to make lasagna around Christmas too, as I have all the ingredients. AV, your chili sounds yummy! JJ, your casserole sounds good too, in the slow cooker. I made a grilled cheese. Haven’t had one for a long time. Now a cup of hot tea with honey. I use real maple syrup on my pancakes since the neighbor sells it from a local place and it’s SO good! I also love the bottles of syrup at the grocery store. My favorite is Boysenberry! Sometimes I just use jelly on them. Nice to switch it up. Never liked maple syrup as a kid, (Log Cabin, etc…) but when I finally tried the REAL stuff I was hooked! Mmmm… Mmmm….
Our cats DO come to us when called. Don’t know where these people get the idea that they don’t. Goodness…..

KZ, choco is choco, I was just so happy that I could eat the FR’s!
And CWS, they are a bit moreish, but like the pretty foil wrapping, as would my Dorry I assume! 😮
Anyway there’s a 16-pack on the centre Café table for all of us to share. Best get at them before the kit’s get the wrong (and dangerous) idea! -
