On August 14, 1945, the Japanese government cabled to the U.S. their surrender. On August 15, 1945, this news was announced to the world, sparking spontaneous celebrations over the final ending of World War II. Today we honour those who served and still serve their country.

Big Fish story on news…forgot to grab link…it really is a real fish!
Yup, spotted a school bus yesterday. Some started this week around here…others next…at least it’s cooler, not usual heat wave on first day of school!

Hi JK and Joan,
JK “thanks for all the fish” (cf Hitchhiker’s Guide …). How big is the “one that got away”! Getting that not so “Old Man and the Sea” vibe … Hemingway … polydactyl kitties … like Psych 101 word association, all things lead to kits! LOL
So today this woman at gym who knows me not at all approaches uninvited and (in French) says “Do you know who you remind me of?” (Oh boy, I’m thinking, what comes next!”) I say “No”, figuring this would end it. Nonetheless she informs me it’s actress Rooney Mara, not too far off my style/look. Just missing the “Dragon Tattoo” _ definitely not pour moi. If looks could kill. LOL

Well KJ, someone once asked me if I was pregnant. I’m over X years old, gravity takes over just below the belly button. So yeah, I smiled and laughed it off so the person would feel less embarrassed, but the daggers were probably still shooting from my eyes!
The minion in the middle? That’s me. Every working day. Year round.

Don’t know if I mentioned the music box I found while cleaning recently. I opened it to see if it still worked, and was doing other stuff while it played. Leela got up from where she was sleeping to inspect it. I wound it up again and put it by where she was sleeping. She promptly curled up and relaxed next to it. A few days later I did it again, and it had the same affect. Looks like I found Leela’s lullaby!

Joan, I do know of that music box! 😉 And many people are renowned for their stupidity. I make it a point never to comment on anyone’s look, unless it’s something they’re wearing and then it’s about an item not about them.
Yes JK I did say “Merci” LOL. And gave this woman a “look”. Truth is she wasn’t too far off. Haven’t seen any of the “Dragon Tatoo” films, but did check out Rooney Mara pics and she rocks a tough yet fragile look, extremely thin and pale with “interesting” hair, sort of an Audrey for the new millenium (which I’ve also gotten comments as resembling).
Back to fish and related comment as “a fish wouldn’t get into trouble if it kept it’s mouth shut”. Big Fish (Tim Burton) was a terrific film IMHO.
I’l leave you to ponder my meanderings and catch you all L8R! (oops more fish references). 😉

Hey ECB 🙂 how’s the back .. Hopefully no more risk of injury with move completed.. School doesn’t start here for another 2 weeks and college doesn’t properly get started till October in some places ..

Hey Joan I’m glad Miss Leela has a new tune .. Unfortunately due to a very creepy incident involving a music box a few years ago I can’t have them in the home..

KZ again I have to say your daughter is so lucky to have you.. I do hope you get a chance to relax too though..

Had a good but busy day at work today but I was rewarded with an amazing star buy!!! I’ve been looking for months now for a big patchwork quilt for our bed and the cheapest I could find were €60+ but even then they weren’t of the best quaility and had no real age to them.. Well today a lady brought in a big bag and inside was a stunning antique patchwork quilt.. !! One of the girls at work put it to one side for me and priced it at €15 !!!! So I was about to put the €15 in the till and she stopped me .. ” what about your staff discount she said?” .. It turned out with the discount it worked out at €9!!!!! So happy with my Buy.. KJ you’d love the shop! Put it in a super wash with double the washing powder on a high heat and managed to get it dry on the clothes line too 🙂 so it’s on the bed now.. It’s a full queen size quilt it’s massive ! Must be worth €100+ especially as it’s got some age to it! I’ll try and posts pic later..

Mr Noodle is not Letting me type now so must give him rubs 🙂

PASTA FAGIOLI IN THE CROCKPOT – Just like Olive Garden

Yum! Making this for sure! Sounds so good and so healthy with all those beans

Ingredients:

2 lbs lean ground beef
1 onion, chopped
3 carrots, chopped
4 stalks celery, chopped
2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes, undrained
1 (16 ounce) can red kidney beans, drained
1 (16 ounce) can white kidney beans, drained
3 (10 ounce) cans beef stock
3 teaspoons oregano
2 teaspoons pepper
5 teaspoons parsley
1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce (optional)
1 (20 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
8 ounces pasta

Directions:

Brown beef in a skillet. Drain fat from beef and add to crockpot with everything except pasta. Cook on low 7-8 hours or high 4-5 hours. Add pasta the last 30 minutes. Serve with a nice crisp green salad and some garlic bread!

Hanging out at the farmers market – it’s a beautiful day! Bought a few quiches and empanadas and tamales and corn, so dinner is all set! Also got some more peaches.
Oh and the kittens are here!

Yes Buttons – must see pics of quilt – what a score!!! Go you! My score for today was striped long-sleeved T from France at amazing low price, 50% off and have matching skirts in just about all of the stripes as go-together. Very “tony” shop where they wrap the stupid thing in tissue, which Dorry is checking out, hand you the bag and treat you like royalty. Which is what I call good customer service. LOL.
Shark costume makes me think of “Mack the Knife” which leads me into thinking of your Mac, Joan! The kittens are where? At the farmer’s market? Like in adoption booth? Or out on a sortie/foray? LOL. Any “I” names as yet? Please give each of them a kiss/scritch from their Auntie KJ. 😆

Deb, that recipe does look interesting. Might just adapt it to my limited cooking skills, by kicking out the meat and throwing other ingredients plus already-cooked pasta into bowl then microwaving the whole thing, purrhaps tossing some cheese on top. Think I might even have some canned beans hiding in cupboard as staples. Tks!
