Pre-Lily Tomlin there was Emma M. Nutt, who become the first woman telephone operator on September 1, 1878. This is her Special Day.

I gave up my landline last year. I only use my cell phone so I hope I don’t lose it. 😮

I’m binge watching the Strain because season 3 starts this weekend. Do you watch The Strain, AV? It’s scare-creepy so I need to snuggle with kits.

Cya tomorrow and have a happy~

    Aww….little orangies doing synchronized sleeping!

The phones and telephone operators remind me of my current Netflix obsession….the Andy Griffith Show. Did you know that, even though that show is set in the sixties, they gave it a very nostalgic feel of a decade or two earlier? The style of their phones and the fact that they had to get Sarah, the operator, on the line to make a call were a big part of that. It’s such a great show, really. I’d never watched it before. I thought it would be sweet and nostalgic, but there is so much more to it. It is really well written and acted and so subtly funny….the first five seasons at least. Barney Fife is quickly becoming my favorite tv character ever…more to him than just comic relief. But once the show went to color and Don Knotts left it turned into a different show entirely.

Good morning all! Love the “our ancestors had tails” pic!
ECB, you are right about the Andy Griffith show…subtly funny now that I’m older and it’s not just about Opey growing up, which is more what I connected to back in the day. Don Knotts is just hilarious in this show in a skillful, comedic way, and some of the other characters like Floyd…really know how to draw out a line and make me want to scream!! 😆

Good morning, KZ. Forgot to mention one other thing I really enjoy about the Andy Griffith Show. I have so much fun spotting the cool vintage coffee percolators. Aunt Bee, of course, always has one on the kitchen table. But you see them at other people’s houses and the courtroom too. The set crew did a good job of having different percolators for each place too. Just spotted a Corning ware one last night.

Morning all! a lull in the rain right now, expected to start again in a couple of hours …. never really stopped, just slowed to a drizzle.
PG, I haven’t seen the Strain, but might Netflix it after I finish my WD binge …
I also used to love the Andy Griffith show …. probably seen every episode … Mr. AV still watches them in his man-cave – they tickle him! So far, so good with the power staying on, hope it continues through the worst part this afternoon. Have a great day all!

PG, that’s Dorry’s reaction to me most of the time – all kits are not like that???? 😉
Hard to fathom that Opie (Ron Howard) firstly became major director and secondly is now a grandpa!

Hi everyone, is this the party to whom I am speaking? I wonder what Alexander Graham Bell would think of today’s phones, what with possessing everything that is known to man at the touch of a button.
“Ur call will be ignored in the order in which it wuz receeved.” Heh
I like the aggravated switchboard operator kitteh. Shenanigans is sometimes TDK’s middle name!
Minions on speedy dile is a hoot too!
I agree, ECB. I can’t imagine phone use on the Andy Griffith Show without the caller saying, “Sarah, get me…” Little Opie was so adorable in those early years too. I don’t think Barney ever used his one bullet. I like watching those shows for the décor too.
Oh PG, the stink eye – hubby got a big dose of that from Comet this morning. Comet is pretty much the happiest cat I have ever known, but this morning he was annoyed that hubby wanted to use the bathroom sink, the same sink he had settled in under a lightly opened faucet (he loves the water). After hearing some rather miffed meows, I went in, saw a major stink eye, and gently lifted him out and did my best to make him forget his problems. Comet is not a grudge holder, and was happily purring in my face within a minute.
Happy to see you AV, stay safe. My phone has been wearing itself out with weather alerts.
Ron Howard sure has led an extraordinary life. I still remember when he was on Saturday Night Live trying to establish himself as a grownup who writes and directs movies while Eddie Murphy kept referring to him as “Opie Cunningham”!
JK, thanks for posting the Lily Tomlin bit – Ernestine was a hoot for sure!
Well, happy September, TDKr’s. Although it’s been an uncomfortably hot summer, I’m sad to see it go. Time to let our So. Hem. friends thaw out.
It rained most of the night into this morning. I wound up binge-watching “Below Deck”, as I’d never seen the first season. I like watching stuff like that for the scenery and the beautiful 20 million dollar yacht. Could do without the drama, but then I suppose there would be no show!
It has dried out now and is cooler but still way humid. Comet has found a corner of the house that Mac doesn’t seem to know about, so Comet can have a peaceful nap without being harassed by Mac. Leela enjoyed mommy and me time until the evil vacuum came out.

Hermione became a hurricane @ 1300 hours EST. Paws crossed no flooding or damage for our TDKers.

Good morning all. It’s an odd day today, woke to find we were under a tsunami warning after a 7.1 quake of the coast. Didn’t feel a thing but it was at 4.37am. There have been many aftershocks since and I still haven’t felt any. Tsunami warning has now been cancelled although some areas did get 30cm/1 foot rise in water level. All part of living on the ring of fire and in the Shakey Isles I guess. Then had to take Mum’s old girl Snuggy to the vet as she has a very painful mouth. Vet doing kidney check on her first before deciding if he will remove any teefs.
May we have Healing Energy and Positive Vibes for Snuggy.
PG, OMG that stink eye pic is hilarious.
AV, is it just rain or are you getting winds too. Thank goodness for any lulls, time for it to drain away.
JJ, love the morning goings on in your bathroom between Comet and Mr JJ. Takes Mama to smooth things over.
I used to love watching The Andy Griffiths Show and as for the theme tune, it has to be one of the most memorable and whistle-able tunes around. I had an intense dislike of Don Knotts character though for some reason.
From Yesterdays Cafe – JK, good that Otto has shown up but not good that he was limping, hope he heals.
LOL at the bears and soft tacos. 😆
ECB on Emily and her yakkage. Aren’t cats wonderful. 😆 No shame. Our dog used to clean up her own barf and any cat yakkage. She was on it like a flash before we could stop her, and anything else that hit the floor. She lived to 18 years of age so it didn’t seem to harm her any. Pre-digested or pre-softened food is another way of looking at it.
What would Shadz name for me be. Oh maybe Angel because I nursed her through the cat flu as a 6-7 week old and then again maybe Magician because magically the door opens when she wants it to or food appears in her plate. Nah, who am I kidding – it’s probably ‘Hey staff”.
Oh I was asked last week if a student could sit in on my Dr appointment. I said it was fine as I didn’t think there would be anything too personal said or done. She looked to be about 18 but was a fourth year student so must have been a bit older.
Lagatta, check at hardware and supermarket stores for moth catching traps. Usually they are small tent like sticky traps you can either hang or sit on a flat surface. I think they have an attractant. They won’t be fool proof but you will be surprised at the number of moths that are caught. We must only see a tiny percentage of what is in our homes. Vacuum bags or air tight storage boxes would also help keep your clothing safe during the off season for wearing them. Do NOT use mothballs if you have cats, there is something that affects cats seriously in them.
YB, I am on the North Island east coast, beautiful place of sub tropical temps in Summer and mildish Winters although we do get to freezing.
I voted to retain our flag as the options didn’t really have the gravitas that a flag representing a nation should and also the entire referendum process was flawed and driven for the wrong reasons. Politics and politicians! ! !

Oh poor Snuggy, I sure hope she feels better soon. Sending lots of healing energy for mum’s old girl.
Glad you didn’t get wet, but a tsunami warning is scary as it is.
Funny you mention the Andy Griffith Show whistle, MS. Back in high school, the Principal bore quite a resemblance to Andy Griffith. He hated when kids whistled the tune!
Yakkage sure is a funny topic. I get how a dog wouldn’t mind dealing with it; sometimes cats do too. Leela in particular sometimes eats too fast and the food is just a little wet when it comes back up.
Sending good vibes to our Florida TDKr’s. Looks like AV is in between bands of rain and if ECB is where I think she is there is a band of rain heading her way. Either way they are in for a long night. Hoping the power stays on and the wind and rain don’t cause any lasting damage.

It’s been a busy day as far as quakes go in my area although I haven’t felt any shaking. Did see light activity on top of Mum’s pool and my cuckoo clock weights have moved ever so slightly.
Positive Vibes for AV and ECB while Hermione hangs around.

Glad to see you’re okay Moonshadow. Sorry bout the teef. JJ and the rest of you DKers? They have done nothing but cause me permanent injury and severe nerve damage are teen obsessed to the point where adult life and thinking is ALIEN to them. Their hatred is excessive as is xenophobia and they have a severe black problem. If you Molly coddle them they get worse on me. Will not explain why they won’t stop. They demonize and victimize and have no conscience nor remorse. One ringy dingy? No ringy dingy with them. It just perpetuated itself. Their babies are born terrorizing me from first words. It’s a cult. How many of you care about college sports? How many of you have kids in college? They’re obsessed with college sports state wide. Please don’t add insult to injury. Like the show? The police have always been a part of this and my disability is something I won’t expound on here it would take too long but? Even they are seriously intent on doing me bodily harm through torture. Don’t believe it? I have documented all their crimes on paper and have photos.
