Our morning program is doing a live segment on giving pets as holiday gifts, and when I came in there were 2 shelter workers in the building lobby with 5 or 6 carriers; most of them had puppies in them (the person producing the segment is a dog person), but there was one little gray and white kitten. OMG, I wanted to grab the carrier and run away with it! I did hear one of the workers say that they had brought adoption applications for all the animals, so maybe some sweet furball will get a home today.

I know that giving animals as gifts is generally a bad thing, especially if it’s an impulsive thing, but if someone has already thought it through and decided they want to adopt, I don’t think there’s anything bad about doing it at Christmas.

I’m sending warm fuzzy adoption vibes for them all, especially the kitten 🙂

The segment is scheduled for 8:40 am Eastern on CNN, if anyone wants to check it out.

As if that wasn’t enough of a treat, when I clicked on msn.com this morning, there’s a picture of my step-son-in-law illustrating their story about ugly Christmas sweaters 🙂 Oh the joys of stock photography.

They just teased the segment with an adorable shot of the kitten. Yay kitty! You be your adorable self and you’ll be in a furrever home in no time.

There was an orangie! A beautiful year-old orangie and I didn’t even see him when I came in 🙁

They did a good job with the segment, talked about the fact that it’s not the best idea to give a pet without involving the whole family in the decision, etc. There were 3 puppies, the orangie and the little gray & white kitten.

Maybe if I run downstairs I can grab the kitties and nobody will notice. You think?

Phoo, they were gone by the time I got there. I wasn’t really going to steal them, honest, I just wanted to see the orangie (and the kitten). Don’t tell George.

Maybe Santa Paws has the gray kitten for you, Kilroy! 😉

Oh, and one of the puppies was named George 🙂 They had 2 pups that were kind of mutts, although one was mostly black Lab and majorly adorable, and a Pomeranian that was rescued from a puppy mill.

    Adoption white light continuing….

I received CJ as a totally unexpected Christmas gift. And yes, i was initially in shock. But she’s the greatest gift I’ve ever received.

I think it can work, but there are so many things that can go wrong. The volunteer from the shelter said in our segment that they see a lot of animals adopted in late December who are back by late January 🙁 I’m so glad CJ worked out for you Lisa, and I love her name 🙂

I think its a good idea to present a certificate for the adoption fee and then let the family or the person decide what pet to get for themselves, preferably after the craziness of the holidays is over.

I could use a kitty at work today! Way busy and could do with some cuddles! Purrrrr

That’s a really good idea, Ladysky. Getting a pet should, ideally, be a carefully thought-out decision (except in special circumstances like rescuing an abandoned animal, or being given a CJ for Christmas 🙂 )

None of my cats were thought-out decisions! Chris’ mom was (but he was a surprise), and Rattlesnake and Topaz adopted us. The only one close to a thought-out decision was Spook.

If you scroll down to the entry “What pet is right for your family?”, you can see what was on the air this morning: http://amfix.blogs.cnn.com/

I want the kitten! And the orangie 🙂
