My husband and I got our kitten, Sadie, in late October. The first few days we had her she made a cute little squeaky noise. But since then she has never meowed once. Once in awhile if I talk to her she’ll open her mouth like she’s going to, but nothing comes out. Anyone ever had a similar issue or know why this could be?

Yep I’ve had a silent Miaower or two. One was my tuxedo tabby named Norm (RIP),occasionally he could get a squeek out but mostly to get my attention he would tap on my arm gently with his mouth wide open to show me he was trying to talk.

My beloved Mr. Bug (RIP) didn’t meow..a squeak once in great while..but he developed his own means of communicating..he would take his paw and tap my shoulder if he wanted outside…or if he wanted me to follow him somewhere (usually the food dish) he would tap my leg with his paw then turn to the direction in which he wanted me to follow him…The develop there own ways..my other kitty BooBoo never shutup…

Wow…how interesting…Has a vet ever given anyone an explanation as to how this came about?

My Willow chirps but never meows. We tell her that it’s because at five weeks she was found in a tree in our yard and had a boken leg and that, while in the tree, the birds taught her to talk!

Sometimes they just don’t meow or talk, and they do find other ways to get your attention. I have one, Max who is my largest furrbaby who has the softest little meow that you would think it was a kitten talking. Just go with the flow on it, and enjoy your kitten for whom she will grow up to be ;D

Pickle meows her head off, her sister Button squeaks, Eric chirps and Mum’s cat Bones makes a noise that would wake and subsequently frighten the dead!! Who says cats are all the same?!

Camo doesn’t usually meow. A squeak every now and then. And then I have the meezer, Mr. Kadie, he meows enough for all the silent kitties out there!!

*LOL* Thanks for the all the replies. I forgot to mention she gives this chirp like noise when she bounces around and jumps on and off things. Just strange to have a silent kitten when our other cat Buddy moans and groans with this howly meow all the time. We just call him Mr. Whiney Pants.

My Kiwee, my little siamese girl, does not have much to say. I try to get her to talk to me but she just looks at me like I’m nuts. When she can’t find me and is looking she has the loudest, deepest meow I have ever heard. Jerry, my big grey boy, has the most high pitched, kitten like meow ever. Funniest when meowing together…

GreatDane, poor baby, would playing with the cat dancer keep him quiet and get him tired….I know sinus headaches are a terrible thing, I get them often.

I don’t think I have the energy to play with the Cat Dancer with him right now. I think I’m going to try to take a nap and hope that he’ll take the hint and take one, too.

I’m really not very good about this whole sick day thing! Instead of resting in bed or something, I biked to the post office and then biked to the tennis club where I play and spent a couple of hours watching my team play without me. I was beginning to feel better, but now I think I overdid it.

I’m going to try that nap now…..

GD, I hope you’re feeling better soon! One thing I’ve found tends to help with my sinus headaches is taking some decongestant (pseudophedrine). I take the maximum recommended dosage for at least 12-16 hours… it usually helps get the sinuses to start clearing.

Gracie’s nickname is monkey because that is the sound she makes. little squeeks and ik ik ik sounds. Thierry says Murrr and Emma has a beautiful non-siamese petite high pitched meow. BUT if a bath is involved they all can manage full throated yowls and meows.

My first kitty, Whiskers didn’t have a meow for the first year or two of her life. She would open her mouth to meow but instead nothing would come out. Eventually she developed a soft meow but was always a pretty quiet kitty. She went over the Rainbow Bridge going on three years ago. I still miss her from time to time.

Thanks, Anncetera. I can’t take pseudoephedrine – too much for my anxiety-effected heart.

Anyway, the Bob was being a very good guy and curled right up with me and sucked on the blanket and purred until I fell asleep. I got a nice hour of sleep. My head still hurst, but at least I got a bit of rest.

Oh poor GD! Sinus headaches are the worst! Would a decongestant spray help? I know my GP prefers the sprays to tablets, because of the heart issue. Maybe some benadryl? It is an antihistamine, not a decongestant, but it can help dry up the nose. Plus it will help you sleep! 😉
