Growing up our first cat was an all white female named Kot which means cat in Polish! She had a kit we named Winky or Winky-Winks because his eye would wink alot! Sushi was my part Siamese and Snuffy was my sis’s calico named after a cartoon character Snuffy-Smith tho she was a female kit. Another of my sis’s female cats was Emily-Z named after French author Emile Zola.

I’m glad this post got resurrected as I’ve had a fun time reading. We had a cat named Cactus. She had apparently been left by the past renters. We had the hardest time coming up with a name for her as nothing seemed to fit (think weeks). One day I referred to her as a prickly cat as she didn’t like to sit on my lap and be petted for more than an instant. Then the word cactus (we used to live in the desert) came up, and since she also had green eyes, it stuck.

We wanted a long name for Shadow, but none of them seemed to fit his personality and small stature. Once I called him my little shadow since he followed us all over the house. Just as my husband said that might be a good name, Shadow started playing with his shadow on the tile floor. So of course it was perfect.

I have a coworker who told me he has a food theme going, and his two cats are Turnip and Pistachio.

We’ve had our cat, Siren, for about a year and a month now, and I love her name. At first, I was determined to name our first cat Banjo, because we live in a trailer park, and these things are funny to me. XD

Then, when we saw her, Banjo totally didn’t fit, so we tentatively named her Anya (after my favourite character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and we figured she would be taking a lot of vengeance on the dog).

And THEN, we got her in the car in her carrier, and she made wee little ambulance noises all the way home, which led to my husband changing her name to Siren. It ended up being pretty appropriate, because early on she started meowing entreatingly at us whenever she noticed a can of food emerging from the cupboard. We quickly termed this singing, because we are dorks. Nowadays, whenever one of us goes into the kitchen, she bolts in after ups, sails up onto the cupboard, and sings her Siren-song until someone brings out the treats.

Velvet’s name was due to her velvet-like short black coat, like the finest velvet. Spice was named due to her spunky, off-like-a-jet speed and her love of playing. I almost named her Salsa.

My meezer (Abby) was named for the character “Abby” on NCIS…. here little face with the seal point ears makes her look like Abby with her heavy black eyeliner and black pony tails……

My funniest kitty name was when I was little – by brother and I each got a kitty one Christmas because we had begged for a pet…… the names we chose?, why Barbie and GIJoe, of course!…. can ya what generation we grew up in?!! LOL

Growing up on a farm with lots of cats coming and going, I gave them all various names. As an adult, though, the strangest name I’ve given a cat was Strange. She was a stray who hung around our house when my son and I moved to Iowa. I would tell him that a strange cat was hanging around again. “There’s that strange cat.” And from that her name became Strange.

Our kitties have cool names, I think. We even name the babies, because they need to have identities. LOL!

Right now in our house we have:

Edward Kitty – named for Iron Maiden’s mascot, Eddie

Chicken – named so by my daughter because she is her “little chicken”

Lucy – Named for Lucille Ball

Seamus – Our randy Irish boy

Midnight – our rescue kitty….we did not name her!

Morrigan Rose – Celtic Goddess of War

Fea Marie – Celtic Goddess of War’s sidekick

George Tiberious – 8 weeks old and named by my grnadson

Bailey Grey – 8 weeks old and ironically, gray in color

Isabelle Dumpling – 8 weeks old and given Dumpling because her mother’s name is Chicken…LOL

Elliot Munch – 5 weeks old and named for Law and Order SVU

Olivia Finn – 5 weeks old…also named for Law and Order SVU

The 4 tiny ones are Eenie, Meanie, Miney, and Moe for now.

My wife’s family had a Siamese cat when she was young, and they called it, “Turd Blossom.” I guess they figured it sounded sort of Oriental (?)

I have a friend who named their cat ‘Mugshot’—she said that her kitty looked so pathetic in her cage at the SPCA and kept tilting her head behind the bars. She and her husband both thought it looked like she was lining up for her mugshot. . . 🙂

I have had MANY cats over my life time and fear I would be here all day if I named them all . lol . My most recent’s were Amelia May , which was named after Amelia Airheart , but when she was a kitten , she used to literally fly across the kitchen from the top of the cabinets . lol . I had her 11 years and about 4 months ago , she went out to go potty and never returned . I still cry over my sweet Milla May (that was her ”love name” all my babies have them) . That cat got me through one of the hardest times in my life and she’s prob the only reason Im alive today , I miss her very , very dearly . And my LuLu May (May after , Amelia May) . My sweet Lula May . I recived a call one morning from my mother in law , saying her coworker had what they thought was a 2 week old kitten and she needed a mommy . So , I went to pick her up (without telling my hubby , bc he said ”NO MORE ANIMALS” when I got my python . lol) , and found that she was only about 4 days old . I named her LuLu , b4 I even got home with her , bc it just seemed so perfect . She’s 8 weeks old Sunday and I hope to have her for many , many years to come 🙂

Well my current cats are Heidi (female calico, age 11) Teddy P (male long haired black and white, age 6) And Mowgli- from The Jungle Book (male gray and black Tabby age 4weeks saturday) and I LOVE their names. My brother once named a cat Legoless. But Heidi has got to be one of my favorites. I’ve had her for 11 years almost 12 and she is one of the most beautiful calicos I have ever seen. She has a green and a blue eye and a orange spot by her nose which looks like a freckle. She passed that on to one of her sons lol! She has a great personality to match!
