I’m happy to report that now that George’s clueless human (me) has gotten him a proper-sized litter box, he just used it successfully. Yay! I praised him profusely and told him what a brilliant kitty he was.

Thanks to everyone who suggested one of those cement mixing trays as a litter box; it’s perfect. I got some blank stares from the Home Depot staff when I asked about it (the store is really geared to apartment dwellers), but finally found someone who knew what I meant. And they had them!

    Thanks again.

Kilroy, how great when a plan works….those cement mixing trays are so great, I have a couple of litter kickers and its easier for them….plus I do have one that just loves to roll in fresh litter, guess it takes the place of rolling in sand

Thank you, Karenopa. I’ve been lurking on this site and seen some of the comings and goings; they always make me kind of sad, because you’re right, 99.9% of the time this is a wonderful place full of nice people. And super helpful people, too 🙂 George and I are both grateful to have found this place.

Kilroy, so George it is, with no name change, right? Congrats on the new (and successful) litter box. When do we get to see pics of the young man?

I’ve managed to get a few pictures & will share as soon as I can, but first it’s off to K-mart for more kitty stuff. George needs a scratching post ASAP!

As far as the name goes, I think it kind of suits him. My husband thinks it’s funny, because that was his father’s, brother’s & one nephew’s name. All of the human Georges are no longer with us, but at least the name can live on in our fuzzbaby.

Kilroy, I’m so glad to hear George is making use of the litter box!

As far as the name goes, I think it’s funny, too. My George is a real sweetheart, but she got the funniest look from my brother Mike (since our dad’s name was George). To be honest, it never struck me as strange; but then again, I always thought of my dad as “Dad,” not “George.”

If you discover George likes catnip, rubbing some catnip into the scratching post may make him more likely to use it. Otherwise, try getting his attention and scratch your fingers across the surface of the post you want him to use. If he shows interest, praise him. If he uses it, praise him and pet him lavishly! He’ll get the idea.

I look forward to hearing more about George!

Well, yea! George it is! He’ll be carrying on an old family tradition, then.
