A few halloweens ago I had a witch crashing into a tree and a sign below saying Don’t drink and drive! It was on the front cover of the local paper!

Instinct – is it possible you could have “swimmer’s ear”? Have they looked for that? I really don’t know why it’s called that because you can get it without having been within miles of a pool. But it hurts terribly. Drops usually clear it up relatively quickly.

Don’t know if it’s swimmers ear or not. Was told by the doc that it’s a fungal infection and he gave me a prescription which non of the pharmacies around here had the medicine he prescribed.

I called the doctors office to see what they could do and they were already closed so now I have to wait till tomorrow morning and get hold of the doc and find out if they can give me a different prescription or something.

I got some stuff for swimmers ear and it does seem to help some, but I think it’s to a point that the antibiotics are a necessity. It hit fast too, Saturday I was like “Gee, my ear kind of itches” and now I’m like ” OH MY F***ING GOD this s**ks!!!”

Yes, it all happens AFTER you quit your job that had health insurance and go back to school. But, it was my choice and I wouldn’t change it 🙂

Hi, Instinct – If you still have some medication for swimmer’s ear you might want to go ahead and use it until you can get in touch with your doctor (just my nurses opinion!). It won’t hurt and it might help. It is a fungal infection. If your problem is fungal antibiotics might not do the trick. Also, do you happen to have a heating pad that you could lay on? Swimmer’s ear does start with itching.

Don’t even get me started about health insurance!!!!

I just brought in a fresh batch of fried chicken (as the chicken at the steam table is gone), greens with smoked bacon (HM, you can come out of hiding), macaroni and cheese, cornbread, biscuits, beans and dirty rice, tea, hot apple cider, and Rumple Mintz over shaved ice. Who wants seconds?

yes – i’ve had swimmer’s ear before and I was tempted to end it with an ice pick, it hurt so much…(in my mind I came to the conclusion that the ice pick couldn’t hurt any worse and it would be a permanent solution…)

LOL, Cheri! But I’ve had it too and it really hurts. Thankfully I didn’t think of the ice pick! We were in the Army when I had it but,as anyone knows who has used military hospitals, if you aren’t displaying blood they aren’t too quick to cure what’s wrong. By the time that I got the medication I would happily have used the ice pick!

I have a heating pad, I was kind of afraid to try it because I wasn’t sure if it would do more harm than good. What I have been using is just Swim-Ear. It’s 95% alcohol so I figured it would at least dry my ears out.

My problem with health insurance is simple. I don’t think it should be handled by your employer or the government. We should have control over our insurance.

I don’t need (or want) the government taking care of me, and I don’t want my employer deciding what I get. I used to work for a health insurance company and most people don’t know that it’s the employer that decides what is covered and at what rate.

No, I think I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself. I don’t need, or want to be coddled by the system at all 🙂

I was going to go with a power drill – you know, man tools 😀

Ah yes, the good ol’ military which pulled all of my wisdom teeth and then sent me back to the flight deck the same day.

Thank god my supervisor was smarter than the doctor and told me that if he saw me on the flight deck he would kick my butt and then I would be back in medical getting patched up.

You can use the heating pad but turn it on low and cover it with a towel. You don’t want to lay on it for hours 🙂 but I think that, used for short periods, it might help relieve some of the discomfort (we were taught in nursing school never to use the word “pain” – like that would fool a patient!).

You were Navy? We were Army!
