A request for some purrs and head-bonks: I’m scheduled to have my gallbladder removed on Thursday. I understand it’s a simple, in-and-out-the-same-day procedure, but I wasn’t expecting it to happen quite this soon. It was originally scheduled for Nov. 16, but I asked if it could be done earlier because I’m feeling pretty bad. The surgeon had a cancellation, and that’s good, but I wasn’t expecting it to happen three days from now.

I’ve been having problems for 6 years that, from the symptoms, everyone from the GI specialist to the techs performing the diagnostic tests were sure were being caused by the gallbladder, but all 3 tests they gave me came back normal. This time, the initial ultrasound showed gallstones, so I didn’t have to repeat the whole round of tests. I’m looking forward not to feeling half sick most of the time.

Eileen – I had mine out in July, and everything went smoothly. I didn’t even need the pain meds they gave me. I haven’t had any problems since. My mom had hers out in 1982, and she doesn’t even miss it (plus she still has all her stones-in a cup in her medicine cabinet).

OMG you guys….my sister kept her tonsils when they removed them. I hope the stones look prettier than her tonsils did. lol. I hope you guys don’t mind the humor I saw in that. Forgive me if you did.

    Eileen,

I understand the procedure is really pretty easy and painless these days, unless they have to cut in the old fashioned way (which I understand they rarely do).

    Healing energy to you.

Well, Eileen, I’ve had mine out, too, but didn’t want the stones!! My first attack came when I was in Las Vegas, fortunately the last night I was there. Had another attack before I went in to have tests, and a couple more before I finally got into the hospital to have it out. They did a laparoscopic(sp?) surgery, so it was a breeze. But I developed shingles the day after surgery, so instead of going home the next day, I ended up staying for almost a week.

Good luck–I’m sure you’ll be just fine!!! And you’ll feel sooooo much better.

It’s going to be done laparascopically, and most people don’t even have to stay in the hospital. Some stay overnight; it just depends on their condition.

Susie, I’m not offended; I think it’s kind of funny, too. I only want to keep them because they’re hardened material. I wouldn’t want to keep tissue like tonsils, and I wouldn’t want to take the gallbladder home! 🙂

Eileen……Sending positive thoughts your way, with good wishes for a quick recovery. My mom had the same procedure 4 weeks ago (age 83), and was out of the hosp. in 2 days. All is going well, with no complications. Fingers/paws crossed for you at this time.

They don’t give you the option anymore to keep stuff like that (but I did ask).

Ah, well, I guess I’ll just have to live without my gallstones after they’re removed. My mother had her gallbladder out in 1974, and the doctor offered her the stones. She didn’t want them.

Thank you, everyone, for the encouragement and support.
