In 1946, the bikini was invented by Parisian fashion designer, Louis Reard. In the 1930s, European women began wearing bathing suits that consisted of a halter-top and shorts. A sliver of the midriff was revealed and the navel was vigilantly covered. In prudish America, the bikini was successfully resisted until the early 1960s, when youthful culture brought the swimsuit to our beaches.

Lying there in your bikini under the umbrella, Mai Tai, Iced Tea or Lemonade in hand, the hot beautiful sun kissing your skin. Smell the salt breeze and listen to the waves lapping onto the shores…. Are you there yet? Welcome

You beat me to it with that earworm PG!!! And tks for adding to the melee MS!
One of our spin instructors includes that “Itty Bitty” ditty in her mix and we all go like this: 🙄
Dorry will stick to his Speedo. Going to be hot today and like 30 degrees C. + tomorrow with humidity. Hope that I don’t see any fashion choices that offend my sensibilities in n’hood hehehe.

Hi, guys! We got back from the mountains last night. We had a blast but it’s good to be home. I didn’t even get to lurk here while I was gone (though our cabin did have decent internet and cable….my kind of camping..lol) so fill me in if I missed anything important. We had a good bit of rain but it didn’t ruin our fun. We loved playing cards at my aunt and uncle’s cabin and going for short walks so you were never far from home when the heavens let loose. We decided we like the shorter walks better than the long up the mountain hikes. Since I don’t exercise regularly right now, the hikes make me too sore for the days after. I can, surprisingly, make it up but the soreness spoils the shorter walks for the rest of the week. Older son did one longer hike with my brother’s family and said that was enough. Oh, we also discovered a tourist attraction that our family had somehow missed despite coming to that area for decades…an old gold mine open for tours…very cool!! And you pan for a little gold before you leave….youngest son, budding geologist, loved it!

Eko is on my lap…Leo tried getting on at the same time a few minutes ago. Their love buckets definitely need filling. Hubby does his best, but one person can only do so much! And the birds are thrilled to have me back. I abandoned our regular bird feeding routine while we were gone. Hated to do it, but hubby had enough extra responsibility with the cats.

ECB, so glad to hear of your vacation escapades. I have to agree about the shorter walks. We used to go for a week into the hills of Southern Ohio, some serious hills and gorges. The long hikes would wear us out, especially the girls where they didn’t want to go anymore.. 😯 We ended up on one that had a rim trail and when I looked down there was an 800 ft. drop into a gorge. I freaked out and got the girls out of there quickly as my oldest was acting like an idiot and tripping on roots and rocks and I thought she was going to take a pitch over the edge! I’ll bet your cats are so relieved to have Meowmy home too. Getaways are so much fun, but it makes coming home so worth it!
LOVE the pics PG and MS…so adorable. KJ, I would do an eye roll too in my class if that came on….. 🙂

Morning all! I love hearing about everyones holiday, and the bikini pics are hilarious! Our 4th was relaxing, today I need to get a jump start on the work front … No big deal, since its 60% chance of rain ….. And we have enough leftover food so I dont have to cook ????

Good morning, love the bikini pics and thanks so much for the starry beach pic, PG. Hubby and I would lay on the beach at night for hours and watch the stars and listen to the ocean, pure bliss.
Welcome home, ECB! Glad you had a good time and I totally understand feeling equally good about being home. Those short walks are nice, and just as good for you as the long hikes. How cool to find a gold mine to check out!
We had a nice 4th. Travelled to the central Jersey/Pennsylvania border at the Delaware River and met with some friends from Lancaster. We visited a park called Ringing Rocks, which has a huge field of mysterious rocks that make metallic-like sounds when struck. Hard to describe, but it was really cool. So we climbed around rocks banging them with hammers to hear the various tones. Here’s the link.

ECB, I think your budding geologist will find it interesting!
This area is super-historic, George Washington hung out in this area of the Delaware River. The houses are well over 100 years old, most made with fieldstone. We stopped at a hotel/restaurant overlooking the river and had an incredible lunch. The day started out rainy, but cleared and turned into a beautiful day.

Welcome back ECB, glad that you vaca was a good one!
Well today I proved that baking is not one of my major skills – such as they are. I was determined to make enhanced bran muffins, by adding grated zucchini among other things. On some level I realized that grated zucchini is water-laden, but not on a conscious level. The whole mess dripped all over my toaster oven, and 2 batches of the mix had to be tossed. 🙁 But not to be deterred I have made up another batch, this time cutting back on the liquid. Need to go out and source a zucchini to add to mix, but this time I will add just one (not 3!) and will absorb liquid with paper towel before mixing it in. Have to go to post office anyway so no biggie. Did score at an n’hood garage sale. Lovely (IMHO) handmade stained glass piece, and the theme, well see for yourself. $10, worth a lot more, and stand was thrown in for $1 extra. Still so much curb pieces waiting around, in driveway across my apt a sofa awaits someone! Not me though! 😉

It looks like a nice n’hood, Cheri.

I love your lamp KJ. How does Dorry feel about it?

I’d drive everyone nuts if I went to the Ringing Rocks…whee!

I just got back from 3.5 hours of running errands. I’m tired.

    Check the recent topic, Joan

    Have a happy ~

KJ, if you want to add zucchini to a recipe without all the liquid, grate it, then put in a clean dish cloth or cheese cloth and squeeze/twist until the liquid is gone….. same principle as if you want to use a box of frozen spinach in a recipe ….. same thing goes for carrots and yellow squash … just a tip, my grandmother taught me years ago …. good luck, hope the 3rd time is the charm for your recipe 🙂

…. glad you found a nice place, Cheri

…. Deb, love the story of Shirley! …. free at last!

…. *waves* to PG and Joan and anyone else in the Café! I got a good start on my week, maybe Monday won’t be so bad after a holiday after all !

Ringing rocks sounds like a cool place….will have to show son the link. Love the rock concert pun in the description. 🙂

    Great stained glass find, KJ!

Been shopping for food or cooking it for most of the day. That’s okay, we’ll have healthy stuff to eat this week. Right now we’re having a loud thunderstorm. Poor kitties…after the fireworks last night.

KJ, after I saw your pic, I ran in my kitchen and took one of my stained glass that I’ve had in my window for years! …. reminded us of our dear departed ‘Queen Cuddles’ ……

I was going to wait until I moved to start looking for kittens, but….
I found a pure white girl about 6 months old looking for a forever home, so…
I put in an application for her just now, so I am waiting to hear back.
    Wish me good luck !!!

here is a picture of her

    Cheri,
Your new place looks lovely, such well kept grounds and indeed well-maintained, spanking clean whitewash and all. And looks like you might have found yourself a matching white kitty! She is a beauty! Will they hold her for you until you move, or can you take her now? Well blessings, that all works out to your liking!
Speaking of kitties, when I raced out to get another zucchini for muffin re-do, noticed that n’hood pet supply was having adoption day for Cause4Paws, the shelter where I adopted Dorry from. It’s a good thing that my lease stipulates only one kitty, cause they had some gorgeous ones available, purrticularly a black baby named Porsche and a grey (sorta Russian blue type) named Ash. Nice to re-connect with the lovely lady who with her team of volunteers dedicates herself to the shelter, and all the kitties are in foster homes until they get adopted, however long that takes. I met some of the foster peeps and I’d be a foster fail for sure! Gave them a monetary donation, guess every bit helps. And had to show off pic of Dorry on my cell!
Love your stained glass work AV, it does indeed recall the Queen as Cuddles. Come to think of it, mine recalls my Meadow tuxie as Nicky. It’s actually a glass picture, PG, and so far Dorry has not antagonized it.
So many garage sales going on. I’m tempted to say to the sellers that I can find the same things that they want cash for as free the next block over LOL. Found me an odd looking low table/step stool that goes nicely with my new chair. It needed the usual wash and some paint touch-up. Plus I’m making a cover for it. Pic maybe, probably.
Tks AV, I think that I figured out the zucchini thing as this batch of muffins came out fine. I used paper towels to soak up excess water and now muffins are cooling prior to boeing to their temporary home in freezer. Bran mix, zucchini, ground pecans, raisins and maple milk instead of water. Not bad, for me that is, who customarily stays well away from kitchen. Might try shredded carrot at some point, good way to get in veggies.

Monday morning greetings from an overcast windy and cold MS and HRH Shadz.
No, I tell a lie, the sun has just popped out from behind a cloud.
Love the earworm, you have to admit it’s a great tune to get moving to, fast paced.
Welcome back ECB, your holiday in the mountains sounds wonderful. My daughter is going gold panning later this month and hoping to find a little speck or two. I don’t envy her panning in a fiver in the depths of Winter though.
Yikes KZ, that’s a big drop, good move in getting out of there.
    Waving to AV.
Joan, lying on a beach watching stars is so much fun, people don’t look up enough. Baden Powell used that to his advantage in tracking/hiding as most Girl/Boy Scout/Guide knows. Wow the Ringing Rocks sounds fascinating Joan and what a beautiful looking place.
KJ, nice score with the stained glass piece. Zuchinni – to eliminate their moisture grate and add a teaspoon or two of salt and leave to rest for 10 minutes or so. The salt draws out the moisture. Rinse salt out well and squeeze dry in paper towel then use.
Cheri, nice looking house/apartment. It may pay to remove the link soon though.
I recently found a lovely heavy block of glass 3D pic in my local SPCA shop of a tree and a girl with a basket all in black outline. The girl is bending forward enticing a white kitty to her. It’s probably a paper weight but I have it sitting near a window so you can see the picture.
Joan, just watched a vid of Ringing Rocks and what beautiful sounds the right rocks make.
Deb, great news about Shirley the elephant.

    Hi MS *waves*
I’d love to see pic of piece you picked up at SPCA. IMHO doesn’t matter what a piece was for, creativity means you use it as you see fit. Case in point is what I’ve designated as footstool for new chair. Just topped it with foam pad covered in cut-down runner from $ store. Hand-sewn on one side and done. I think that when I get the sewing machine that’s “reserved” for me there’ll be no stopping me! 😉

And for those of us for whom “gold-digging” means searching out a spouse who can maintain one in the style that one has grown accustomed to hehehe, just what is a “fiver?”
I’m also loathe to add (lest shoes be thrown) that here it’s blazingly hot and humid. And a meteorologist in today’s spin class (I kid you not) says that this will last all week. Summer, finally!

Deb, I’m so happy for Shirley 🙂
Cool topic, PG! Oh and it really is fun hitting various boulders with a hammer and the different sounds they make, some make more than one note. How cool would it be to have one of them in your backyard?!
Having fun with zucchini, eh KJ? Yep, treat it like frozen spinach and you’ll feel better about being the master of your kitchen! That’s a beautiful stained glass piece you picked up. Yours too, AV, pretty Queen Cuddles! Nice footstool turned chair too. Summer is on its way here too, but I made the disclaimer 6 months ago that I will whine just as much about sweating as freezing!
ECB, I hope the storms have subsided. Saw that the rain has delayed the race at Daytona, looks like they are drying the track now.
Congrats the new place, Cheri, and hope all goes well for the adoption. 🙂
Hope you and HRH get warm by the fire, MS. Gold panning does sound like fun, think I’d rather go where ECB went!
