An excellent story in pics, video and words of the quake. Two quick gifs of the quake that show just how violent it was.
What the people may face in the coming weeks/month. Sobering stats.
The chance of a M7.0 or greater quake occurring in the next 30 days has remained steady at 21 per cent.
The chance of such a quake happening in the next 10 days is 10 per cent, and in the next day, two per cent.
For quakes that measure M6.0 to 6.9 we’re looking at a 90 per cent chance of up to six of these occurring in the next 30 days.
There’s a 63 per cent chance up to three of these shakes will occur in the next seven days, and a 16 per cent chance one of these quakes could happen in the next day.
This number is down from a 20 per cent chance yesterday.
The probability of M5.0 to 5.9 quakes occurring remains high.
GeoNet gives a greater than 99 per cent chance that 16 to 35 of these quakes will occur within the next 30 days.
The chance of up to five of experiencing a shake such as this within the next day is also high – at 85 per cent.
    The perfect post-quake emergency kit.
I finally managed to make my kumquat marmalade today with the fruit from my dwarf kumquat,(all 25) it’s first crop. The marmalade looks amazing, beautiful clear orange colour and wonderful tangy taste. Roll on next season with a bigger crop.

Good morning! I need another day between Saturday and Sunday too PG!! Every week!

We had snow showers on and off all day yesterday, with high winds. At one point it was snowing so hard it looked like a whiteout!! Yes, it’s official…woodburning season has begun. Started it yesterday morning after Mr. KZ cleaned out the chimney and brought me kindling. It’s so warm and quiet, with the snap and crackle of wood in the stove….ahhhhh, the cat bomb went off in the afternoon as all 4 cats picked a spot to lay with their backs to the stove and drifted off to dreamland!

    Bravo KJ!

Those are some sobering images MS. In keeping with our topic, It’s beautiful that so many came together to help each other. I don’t remember if I’ve ever had Kumquat.

New jammies are the best, AV. My gang is having rip-snorters too.
A brand new kitchen to play in but it will have to wait for its break in after Thanksgiving.

We’re have an early Thanksgiving today. One SIL is coming in fro S. Dakota and this is her only weekend. Sometimes, you gotta work around family schedule.

It’s going to be heat wave after then last couple of days and Miss Gaea is “let me out of this madhouse!” 🙄

    Have a happy~

    HI KZ,

Your fire sounds relaxing and I can imagine the cat bomb. You and Mr. KZ enjoy a quiet and peaceful day.

Good morning – so true, beauty can be found in just about everything, creatures, landscapes, even the ugliest of insects may have beautiful wings or delicate antennae. In the wake of the earthquake, beauty can be seen in the people who are helping, and even the new changed landscape. Try telling that to those who lost everything, though. My wish is that they are getting help from neighbors, friends and strangers.
Well, it snowed last night – about 2 inches of heavy wet snow. I left the outside light on and watched the snow from bed. Huey, Berta and either Louie or Star made use of my shelters, and Dewey spent the night inside. The view outside is beautiful; snow is stuck to the trees. However, the wind has kicked up, sending chunks of icy snow down, as if the trees were chucking snowballs! My only holdout for breakfast is Huey, who must have moved overnight. The woodburner is already going here, and I made breakfast sandwiches earlier. Leela has staked her place in front of the fire, so all is well. Now I need to decide what kind of brew to put in the slow cooker.

JJ and KZ seems as though you have previewed the weather that has started here! In fact on way home from gym I noted that the pouring rain has mysteriously turned into snow!!!

Wet snow rather. More slated for tomorrow along with srs winds and related wind chill factor. Wonder if snow will stay on the ground or just melt as it lands. Hoping for the latter. But got winter gear in order so winter closet is ready to go. All boots polished and water-proofed.

This is what I have to look forward to! 🙄

Had first class in like over 2 months with instructor who had srs injury. Also set her up with N. to clean her place, I like it when I can help someone good find extra work. Well instructor for sure overdid it, there was no reason for her to even get on the bike. Then again, like I’d listen to any advice. *Sigh* Helped her out after with pain meds and arnica. I seem to be “go-to” person for pharm on the go! I even keep those shakeable instant ice packs and ace bandage in locker. Hehehe.

At least no earthquake, but !@#$%?&€£{}!!!! I hate snow. Not really any way to snowproof my bicycle. I just hope the !@#$%?&€£{} stuff melts quickly as it severely impairs my mobility. And no, it is not beautiful. Livia being able to play and roll around in soft grass is beautiful.

KJ, I always do a double take when I see that photo; somewhere I have a similar pic of Shaddo blazing a trail through the snow. I sent it to the local newspaper and they published it. I labeled it “Shaddo’s snow day”.

The wind is absolutely howling. Leela and Dewey are atretched out in front of the fire.

Berta got brave and stepped inside earlier. She growled at Leela and went back out. At least she knows she can come in if she wants.

Hello All, for all of you in the snow and love it, I’m happy for you but I’m with Lagata, I hate snow, I hate ice storms and I hate rain in cold weather and I hate cold weather. We’ve been having warm days and nights between low 40’s and up to 50 until last night; a cold front has come through and last night, tonight and tomorrow night was and will be down to 30!

I didn’t get to it yesterday but today I’m adding Timothy hay to the straw in the houses and other shelters for my homeless cats. I feel so badly about last night but they seemed to have gotten through it with just the straw. I didn’t know anything about Timothy hay; I had always bought straw but the lady at the feed store told me how much softer it is and I’m so glad she enlightened me.

Moonshadow, Oh, what an awful forecast! I will pray that, despite what you wrote, there will be no more. I’m so glad to know that you and your loved ones are okay.
I remember having kumquat preserves before but I didn’t love them.

JJ, I didn’t know until your post that Jersey had gotten snow. I wish I could have some of those breakfast sandwiches; they sound so good and I am so hungry.

AV, I’m envious; I would love to have a new kitchen! Since you’re on the Gulf side of Florida, I guess this cold front didn’t extend down that far—lucky you. I’m not complaining, though, our warm weather is coming back after Monday.

PG, Thank you for the great pictures. Are you getting a new kitchen, too? I’m envious of you, too. No, really, I’m glad for both of you. I was mistaken about you being in snow, wasn’t I?

KJ, thanks for TTH video. I used to have a big crush on David Byrne and kept a picture of him on my desk for the longest time. His hair is snow white now! Sigh. I guess everybody gets older.

Well Lagatta, looks like we’re in for it! As in snow doesn’t seem to be melting as it makes landfall! C**p! And judging by the streetlight outside my window looks like there’s a srs wind force to go along with it. Messes with my plans as well as I can’t speed walk in quite the same way, although I generally walk on the streets where cars have melted the white stuff. Just heard a car drive by that sounded like snow tires not on as yet. Sorta glad that I don’t drive, I get around just as easily by public transport and by walking.

JJ, neat that Shaddo was a local star in local paper!

Dell, I still have a crush on David Byrne. Talented, intelligent and good-looking, not easy to find! 🙄 One of my gym co-horts attended RISD a year or so ahead or behind TH, I’m not sure which LOL. It’s the uni where the band started. The rest is music history.

I’m up early EST – I get up around 6 to see if I have work from clients in Europe, and simply because I like working early in the morning when there are no interruptions. Such a worry about continued tremors… Some places I know well such as Norcia were pretty much destroyed in the most recent central Italian quake. Livia wanted out of course, but stopped practically in mid-air. She wants out again; it will take her a few times to understand and accept that the damned cr*p is there at least for the day.

Lagata, I am intrigued to know what work you do with clients from Europe. It sounds fascinating. Would you mind telling me what you do?

KJ, not only did I swoon over DB because of his looks and talent but he was a Scottish lad. He finally became a U.S. citizen in 2012. Reading his bio, I don’t think he had much interest in his birth country but, since he came over so young, it’s understandable.

Not so fascinating – translating, editing, revising and so forth. I also facilitate at meetings and seminars. It is mostly rather routine, but the fascinating part is when one (sometimes) meets very interesting people, known and anonymous.

Lois, do you live in Scotland?

We sorta work in same field Lagatta, ‘cept you are fortunate in having regular clients.

For me, freelancing brings in bits of extra cash, it’s not needed earn my living and I’m extremely thankful for this. Very hard to find work these days, copywriters are expected to have web expertise, be fluently bilingual (oral/written) and at times have graphic design abilities. Plus my translating is only English to French and often places expect some sort of certification, which I don’t have.

In purrfect world my first job would have led to career in fashion writing or mag editorial. My more or less useless English Lit degree placed me in a “now what do I do” situation. Then ad dept at major dept store offered to train me a copywriter right after grad. I’d worked in store as part-time clerk through my studies and I was always on time and dressed professionally so I made a good impression on mgmt and would be sent to “pretty” depts. like jewelery, giftware and designer fashion. Great perks too as in clothing discounts on “work clothes”. Back then one dressed in way more prof outfits than the today’s “anything goes” style.

Designer fashion buyer knew my tastes and would put aside outfits for me when orders came in. They’d be arranged in one of the plush dressing rooms and I’d come by on break/lunch hour and choose. Very princess-like! Eventually English writing was outsourced to Toronto and my job disappeared. Eventually same thing happened to dept. Contact led me to another retail job and the rest is history. Oh well as song goes “that was then and this is now.”

Lagata, no, I live in South Carolina. My mother came to America from Scotland with two of her sisters when they were young women (20’s). One sister went back; didn’t like it here. I have never been there but my brother goes every year to see our extended family. He has more money than I and I believe he would take me but his wife wouldn’t let him. Even though I’ve never been to Scotland, I think I’d love living there if I could find a kind, old, wealthy Scottish gentleman to love.LOL–but, really, I’m serious!

Translating, facilitating at seminars and meetings, etc., sounds exciting to me. Is it concerning one field or different ones?

    Where do you live?
