The sad truth is that the world’s best loved, beautiful and fascinating species are being slaughtered by widespread and dangerous criminal network. In 2011 alone over 23 tons of ivory confiscated, which is equivalent to at least 2,500 elephants! A 2010 United Nations report suggests that gorillas could disappear altogether from large parts of the Congo Basin by the mid-2020. In addition, poachers kill the Park rangers on a regular basis.
This global occasion gives everyone a chance to learn about and be part of the solution to wildlife crime. Go online and join the thousands of other individuals who have taken the wildlife pledge.

“Wildlife cannot be manufactured. And once it’s gone, it cannot be replenished. Those who profit from it illegally are not just undermining our borders and our economies, they are truly stealing from the next generation,” Secretary Hiliary Clinton on November 8th 2012

Empowering people to protect wildlife, stopping wildlife crime, using technology for wildlife conservation, and last but not least, elevating wildlife’s worth, we protect wildlife. Mother Earth with her flora and fauna inspire us by nurturing a sense of wonder. And this is how we can save our world and ourselves. Sorry for being so long-winded.

What’s that I see outside – it’s the sun! First time in well over a week! 😉
Big tks Lagatta – I did save and use that police phone#. And had good talk with them. They were most reassuring in that if this guy still gets on my case I should call them and if they come by and there is no noise they will engage him a “chat.” And if he tries to approach me and I am frightened I can just call 911. I truly hope that I am done with him.
MS, PG, all the pics are awesome, esp love “parlor panther”, pawprint, mailman, and the squeeeable sand kits. Can I keep one? He followed me home! 😉

    Adding my 2.5 cents:

Winter – coming to some of our n’hoods SOON!

OMGosh, ADORABLE pics today, and a topic that is so dear to my heart, as I’m sure it is to everyone here. I saw a commercial on TV this week about making sure not to buy gifts that would promote the illegal killing of endangered species. Such as wooden animal statues that have ivory tusks, etc. and things with real fur.

Well, the weather is supposed to turn yucky~~rain/snow mix over to snow, but well, it IS December in the Midwest! What did I expect? 😛

Hope everyone’s day is lazy, slow, and relaxing. 😀

Morning all! KJ, so sorry you’re having problems with a weirdo, I hope the police ‘visit’ will end things.

I’m glad ya’ll are getting some sunny weather finally …. I live in so much sunshine, I take it for granted sometimes ….. I’m excited to be getting some cooler weather come in next week, it will finally make it seem like Christmas is approaching ….

I got a lot of my holiday decor up yesterday, looking forward to doing the tree when my kids come home …..

Yesterday was a beautiful afternoon, and I sat outside on my porch for an hour or more – and lo and behold, a certain black cat jumped up on my lap and napped there for at least 45 min. Might have to repeat that this afternoon! Have a wonderful Sunday all!

AV, actually haven’t had to call police in as yet, just called to ask them what my plan is should this guy ever harass me again.
Getting ready for spin class. Today awesomely tough Wed night instructor is subbing for Sunday person. Although she might take it down a bit when subbing, peeps do not know what they are in for. 😮

Yes, the police here (and I suppose in many cities and countries) have greatly improved their approach with such threatening behaviour and worse, starting from the first shelters for battered women over 40 years ago. One of my friends was a worker at the first one here in Mtl; she is a few years older than I am and retired now. Now this extends to how they deal with other threatening behaviour. Police still need more work on how they deal with “psychotic” episodes though. It is very difficult.

I’m not a psychologist, social worker nor a police officer, but I suspect that the guy has serious problems – but he has absolutely no right to inflict them on his neighbours and particularly not to intimidate women or other potentially vulnerable people.

A “visit” from the police could well impress on him tht such intimidation is criminal and make him stop. Don’t hesitate to call 911 if he should threaten you.

Back to conservation – poaching is a big problem, but habitat loss is even worse. Such lovely felines from the tiny sand cats to the Siberian tigers!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful furry Sunday.

I’m feeling the cold this morning…

Ready for some football, JJ?! 😛

Happy Sunday! Fingers crossed that your downstairs neighbor gets a grip, KJ. I wonder if someone else is making noise….strange.

Very cute pics today, I always enjoy admiring the big cats.

We went to the sugar cane grinding yesterday….same one we attend every year. It was a perfect day for it. Hubby’s mom loves cane syrup and has always wanted to come. She finally got to make it this year.

My eyes are so sleepy today…but lots to do to get ready for the week.

Hi everyone – wonderful pics! The rare jag video is amazing, such a beautiful cat. MS, the kitty high-fiving the internet is awesome!
KJ, the baby tiger yelling ‘snake!’ is too much! I could probably comment on every single pic posted – time spent on cat pics and videos is never wasted time!
I think a bit of your weather is headed this way overnight, KZ. They are saying less than an inch of snow. We’ll see…
Oooh, AV, how nice that Caddy kept you company yesterday. A repeat performance today would be great!
Hi Lagatta – I’m with you, habitat loss is right up there with poaching, problem-wise. Around here black bears are hunted because we keep building in the name of “progress and township revenue”. My immediate neighborhood, however, cannot be expanded because it is a lake community and also is backed by a state forest. Still, the bears come in, get accustomed to people, and unwittingly become “nuisance” bears.
I’ll have to get outside today and work on the shelters for my backyard panthers and tigers and wildcats.

Hi ECB! Been meaning to tell you that I haven’t signed up for Netflix yet. Am I correct in assuming shows will stay up there for a while, i.e., GG?

PG, let’s have a good game today. *virtual handshake*
New York Giants v. Pittsburg Steelers

I love netflix! I’ve been able to go back and watch series from the beginnings, to get caught up, like TWD and Orange is the new Black, really enjoyed them!

The final piece of my new kitchen is complete – the glass tile backsplash was installed to day, and it looks terrific! …. I love how beautiful modern materials can be used in conjunction with the style of my turn of the century home, and really blend that historic flavor with modern convenience. Just in time for the holidays too!

I actually got a jump on holiday shopping this weekend, usually I’m a last minute shopper (cause I hate it), but I just happened to be out, and stumbled across quite a few things ….. I guess the saying goes ‘you always find something when you’re not looking for it’ …..
Well, hope everyone is having a nice Sunday! Relax and enjoy!!

KZ, I think that you, JJ and I are due for getting similar weather. Good that I have my boot waterproofing spray on hand. But what I truly detest is when cars seemingly deliberately go through slushy puddles and srsly splash pedestrians, like me, getting the c**p on their coats, etc. 🙁 Having “enjoyed” this experience more often than I care to, now when I see cars approaching I high-tail it away from curb. Then there are drivers who go through red lights, but I’ll leave it there.

AV, nothing like a big reno to make one happy! 🙂 Your kitchen must look awesome, like from a deco mag!

PG, I watched first episode of “Vikings” and found it a bit boring or rather lacking in action. But I am not one to give up and I sense that when they head back to England (or whatever its name was then) it will get more interesting. Bjorn does have his Dad’s looks, and Lagertha’s girlfriend, well for sure interesting!

ECB, don’t think it’s someone else making noise, ’cause if guy is saying it’s from floor above him, well I’d also hear it. I’ve had same prob with this guy a while back, he for sure has issues.

Did nearly witness police involvement today. Was in fave $$ Store where owner and I often chat about street finds, DIY and whatnot. Some kids were seen shoplifting. So the police were called as I believe this was not first time. One kid had complete hysterics and woman in line calmed him down some and tried to get owner to “uncall” police. Kid protested that he had money. They were by no means impoverished. My understanding is that shoplifting is for thrills. But if one is seen putting something in one’s pocket, well … owner told kids that police would prob just talk to them (and to their parents I would hope.) I don’t think that they would do hard time. 🙄 I felt no sympathy for them whatsoever and gave owner a paws up as I left.

PG and JJ, guess I can’t say that I hope that both your teams win, this being not possible, but enjoy watching the game. I know nothing of football LOL. I’m binge-watching PBS’ “Indian Summer” which I PVR’d some time ago. Neat not having to wait a week to see how series progresses. Simultaneously I’ll be getting sleeves of sweater knitted to next step towards completion. Yarn is proving difficult to work with, very fine blend of acrylic/faux angora/mohair. But judging from back/front which are done, will be very soft and pretty. IMHO.

Spin class was awesome. And loads of peeps. ‘Cause I sit right in front and instructor knows me for a “keener” I was asked to announce my RPM (revolutions per minute.) Thankfully they met with her approval. 😉 I’m not al all interested in watts, mileage or any other numbers, I just want to know that I am working as expected.

I’m glad you wrote about the Vikings. I was confused but we’ll see where this week takes us. Your sweater sounds cozy.

Maybe you should ask the police if you can carry a paint gun and hit cars that splash you. 😈

    Hi JJ 🙁

Guess that your team won PG!
Sweater should be cozy – and it’s kitten-soft! 🙂 Allegedly one can save up one’s kit’s fur after brushing and spin it into yarn. Think that I’ll give that idea a pass LOL.
When I heard knocking at my door earlier tonite thought “Oh no! Not the downstairs n’bour!” It was in fact next door n’bour who asked me to please turn music down. Being guilty as charged, I more than complied, just hooked up earbuds to laptop so that no one has privilege of sharing my eclectic music taste.
Don’t think that we’re allowed to carry tasers here. But paint gun sounds like an interesting plan. In a neat glow-in-the-dark shade. 😉
