World Kindness Day is about little gestures. Helping others can restore a sense of humanity, not to mention giving you that warm fuzzy glow inside. You can donate books, food or clothes to your local community or hold the door open for a stranger, compliment your neighbor on their collection of garden gnomes, let your partner have control of the TV remote for the evening (Well OK, that’s a bit much). 😀

The best thing about Kindness is that it doesn’t cost a thing!

And so on this Sunday, we look inward for the best of ourselves.

It’s just after midnight here and I was woken by a txt from KapitiKats (sister) saying “big big quake but we’re ok”. Heard from Airy (daughter) to say she’s ok too but quite shocked. She heard the quake coming in her sleep and was out of bed into cover when it hit. Some damage (minor)at her place but all ok. The quake was in the South Island and quite shallow at 16km deep amd registered 6.6
No news from the area yet due to time of the night but there must be damage there. Quake was felt over most of the country. I didn’t feel it but many from my city have reported feeling it.
Had to let you all know the we are ok. I hope Jcat is too. Goodnight all, see you tomorrow. Thoughts for all in the quakes area.

Still up, can’t sleep for some reason. There have been plenty of aftershocks and some in the 6 magnitude and also several good quakes in the North Island now too. There is a tsunami warning out for the South Island coastal areas. I think KK said JCat contacted her and is fine so that is great.

The quake magnitude has been reviewed and is now 7.5 @ 15km deep(9.3 miles). That is quite shallow.
Tsunami is moving up the east coast of the country, it was 2meters on one place and the sea was seen sucking in and out at a bay in Wellington harbour. People are evacuating coastal areas. I haven’t had any tsunami warning alert on my phone as yet and hopefully won’t.

Just got Civil Defence tsunami warning for my area, for beach and marine areas. I am higher up and inland a bit.
This entire night has been quite scary, I worry about what daylight will reveal.
Haven’t heard from KK & Airy for some time. Possibly overloaded cell phone towers.
Many coastal areas are under tsunami warnings or evacuation orders.
There have been quakes every minute or so and there must have been close to 100 in the last three hours.
Nothing I have felt here but the house is unusually creaky every now and then.

Heading to bed. It’s almost 4am now.
This was Airy when the shaking struck. She had absolutely no idea she could fit under the bed. It is amazing what you can do in an emergency.

I too can fit under the bed – but srsly hope that I never have to ‘cept for when frame boards or underbed storage needs re-arranging!

I thought that bathtubs were safest place in quake, or purrhaps that’s a myth.

MS, I just checked out I’Net info on quake. Very frightening. Glad that you updated us on you and family and Jane. Hope that all remain OK and that no one has to evacuate.

    HI MS,

Paws crossed that all is wwll for Airy and KK. I saw that it started south (300+Km) of you. My thoughts and healing light go all the people in the earthquake and tsunami zones.

Good morning – random acts of kindness are a win-win. It feels good to bring a smile to someone’s face, not to mention the chorus of meows that go silent when the food is served!
My phone chirped this morning with the news of the earthquake. I’m glad you are ok, MS – sending calming vibes your way. Jcat posted on fb; she is ok but like you, quite shaken up.

It’s a lovely day here – sunny, temps right around 80 …. and I’m stuck inside, chained to my computer to finish my CE 🙁

Moonshadow, I heard about the quake on the news this morning and thought of you immediately. You’re the only person I know in NZ and I am so glad to hear that you are okay. I will keep watch on The Cafe to hear how things progress and sincerely hope there are no more dangerous aftershocks.

Hi all. It’s been a long night short on sleep.
All TDKers here safe. We all live in the North Island with KK,Jcat and Airy living in the lower North Island where the quake was strongly felt and damage has occured. Now that daylight has arrived damage is able to be seen. Police and other groups out checking some isolated areas by helicopter. There is confirmed 2 deaths. The quakes haven’t really stopped, slowed down a bit but still a lot of good size quakes happening.
No quakes in my area further up the country.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.

Glad NZ TDKr’s are accounted for and are okay. Sending lots of good vibes for the safety of all.
Well the NY Jets lost. Again. Giants are playing tomorrow night. Next up, Steelers v Dallas. Go Steelers!

Which team so you root for JJ? Thought you were a Jets fan. I like The Jets (as in “West Side Story” that is!) 😉

Weather still being decent, although windy. Yup, as Lagatta mentioned in other post, outdoor bikers are way happy as car traffic is insane what with all sorts of street repairs going on. Me, it’s my BMW for getting efurrywhere (Bus/Metro (subway)/Walking.) And somehow I manage quite nicely without a car.

Plan is to call physio in am and see if she wants me to come in. Knee still aches. Could be it just takes longer than a week and it is better and does not stop me from spinning. I just don’t want to hear the unfluffy word (for me) “overuse.” 😮
