Today is the 15th anniversary of catastrophic terrorist attacks on the USA of 11th September 2001. 2977 people died in that attack. Embedded in the memories of everyone who lived through it, this was the day four jet planes were hijacked and crashed into the New York World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania, causing the deaths of 2,977 people. Since that time there have been 6547+ attacks with 12469+ killed in the World. There have been 3 attacks in the US with 68 deaths.

As long as there are people who hate there will be terrorism. We often feel helpless but our vigilance and determination within us is what we have to resist terrorism. We are better and stronger than haters.

Thank you PG for the lovely tribute. The radio people were talking about how the kids who are freshmen in high school weren’t even born when 9/11 happened and mostly won’t know about it or have an appreciation of its significance. For me, I think our motto should be the same as the Holocaust–“Never forget and Never Again” and we should make it a point to enlighten our youngsters because its their history too.
I wanted you to know that the thank-you post I wrote on Friday was directly to you but I didn’t realize it would just go to the general conversation without your name. Dell aka Lois

A horrific day when most everyone forever remembers where they were when it happened. I was at work and one of the graphic designers was watching the news on his ‘puter as per usual. He called all of us over and … I’m a Canadian, but can’t fathom that anyone was left unaffected.

I remember the day well also. We were evacuated from the school I was working in due to a bomb threat. Internet and cell phones were down. Most towns around here lost people to the attacks, among them Father Mychal Judge, victim #0001, who was from the town where I live. Also Jeremy Glick, who was instrumental in foiling plans to take the fourth plane to Washington. No, we won’t ever forget.

Dell, welcome to TDK! Wow, 2 dozen cats, you are awesome! I am so sorry about your wee black kitty.

    Beautiful tribute PG.
Even here in the Southern Hemisphere people were affected by the horror and inhumanity of that day. We woke to the news and the rest of the days to come for some time were a blur of disbelief and thoughts for the US and those affected. There two Kiwis killed in the September 11 attacks – one on Flight 93 that crashed into a Pennsylvania paddock and the other was an American born man holding NZ citizenship working on the 75th floor of the WTC North Tower.

Dell great to see you posting. Sent you a welcome on Friday’s Cafe.
It has been a beautiful Spring day here, hot sun and little wind. Great for getting the washing dry. Spent the afternoon looking at vintage engines, tractors and stationery engines. Lots of puff puff hiss and steam and the ground was actually shaking from the power of some of these old engines. Wonderful.
Couldn’t decide what to make for dinner(I like a quick simple meal on Sundays) and it was a toss up between pizza or an omelette. Finally decided on an omelette pizza as I had no pizza bases and didn’t want to make one first.

Great tribute PG and thanks for the name reminder JJ. He wasn’t the leader but we remember Jersey ethos is what made them do it. True heroes. I will never forget certain things but one in particular is the little girl, her mother and mothers Irish friend. They were going to Disney for the first time. 2 on one plane the other alone. Both those planes hit the towers.

I will never forget. Never. My oldest granddaughter was 6 weeks old, and I was going to take her to her first Dr. checkup as her mother was at work. I called my friend (who is no longer living)to go with me and as I did, saw the second plane go into the tower. I almost dropped to my knees as in the bottom corner of the TV it said LIVE. My brain could not function. That day was ethereal as most people acted as if sleep walking. It was so quiet. No air traffic. Broken hearts. I have taught my granddaughters about it, watched the shows with them, and explained that people who hate will never win. They picked a building to destroy that had people from many nations in a city where people all over the world have come to get away from just that kind of oppression. If We don’t teach them, who will? History is not being taught in school. We are making it, we need to teach it. Who will our patriots be if we don’t teach about the Revolutionary War?

Yes KZ very real indeed. You know what though? And thank you for sharing your story, I was watching NBC and Matt Lauer was interviewing someone and a look of shock came across his face but milliseconds later?? He was composed. I think it was the duty of the producers to play it out as he felt it. Teach it. You know why cukt children don’t know about it? Because supposedly it has nothing to do with them. Such is their ethos but? The OKC bombing they don’t know either? They don’t teach their children but who cares about them were talking about American children and in 2012 or 2011 I proposed making the day a national holiday and was ignored. The skyline will never be the same and I’m against the new bldg being there. Many from Middletown NJ worked there and died. Many, many. I know why and so does a particular woman. I won’t go long on that. I’ll stay on topic. Teaching our children is our responsibility whether it be at school or at home. If schools won’t libraries should. We can’t undo the past. Many rescuers died a decade later from exposure to dust which caused cancer. People gave blood, time, prayers. Lives were lost in the name of Islam but? It was that week I learned that Jihad means struggle. A young girl told the audience at a gathering shown on TV that. If I’m not mistaken? Your generation was the first to have TV. But? No generation has been as privileged as the present one. Children do not need cell phones. We didn’t have phones in school. My generation had a phone you dialed. It was on the wall and the microwave was invented when I was nearly an adult. Same with computer. The good old days when people appreciated the simple things in life. There are too many hate crimes in this country. You remember the KKKs rise and Malcolm X etc etc. Nixon’s dirty war the missing time from the tape. Tricky Dick and all. President Obama has been the only President to stand with whomever whenever as our only Kenyan American President. I believe you are a wonderful grandma and grandpa is probably just as good at it. Your desire to pass along knowledge is wonderful. Pass on knowledge! Maybe your grandchildren friends grandparents would like to join you. Write the Principal or Superintendent and suggest. It couldn’t hurt to try.

I remember. I was getting ready to go class at University and my sister called and told me to turn on the TV. I did and was stunned. At first, I thought it was a joke or something because who would do that? Then I realized it was real.

I knew ‘of’ people who died that day, from my hometown and surrounding towns. But there was one person who I met once at a holiday party – our husbands worked for the same international company.
RIP Lorraine Bay, Flight Attendant, Flight 93.

Actually 9/11 was the first time I heard the name Bin Laden. Was mentioned by our secretary who was watching news on PR director’s TV. Our reaction. Who’s he? Well …
Anyway this day went whack. Nothing big just not according to plan at all. Got to gym to discover they had one of the all-too-often power failures. Strange that it only affected my gym and other farther away areas. Hydro (elec co) said that power would be on by 6:45! Of course it would be on a day when loads of kits were waiting for basketball tryouts and there was supposedly a special cycle class in pm. Well my class was cancelled and even though I srsly begged they would not let me get on a spin bike. IMHO way stupid as gym director said he would have let me on, but there are rules about this. So I went home and then went for srs 2 hr walk. Called around 5 pm power back on so yeah I headed back to gym and did srsly tough DIY spin wkt. Now I’m beyond beat and it’s DIY class again tomorrow. And for sure it’s a choice and I generally end up not listening to anyone anyway, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. My shower is screaming my name. I’ll be back l8r to open MOANday Café.

KJ? Sometimes it’s better to be the leader. As for electric? Figures! Stuff like that happens all the time. 13 July we had a huge storm for here. 80 mph wind. QT had power and the Dollar store but? Rest of the area had none. Lazy is a term that comes to mind because? With as many trucks and workers they have? Could’ve been done in 24 hrs. They called Missouri. Thursday. Or prob late Wed. By workout Thurs it still wasn’t back on but? As I’m jogging towards the apts? Fleet of trucks. When I got in the power was on.
Yuri is? Half tuxedo! I figured that. Shape of his face being Sora square and the white hairs sticking out of his paws. Now there’s some white on his chest. glad the ragdoll is drowned out by the Siamese and tuxedo which? They say isn’t a breed classification. Go figure. (Shrugging shoulders) where did you work? You said producer which would indicate radio or TV. My cousin has a cycling team and they do the Pan Ohio ride for charity each year. He collects pledges and they go in July. Interestingly that’s the month of the major storm 2013.
Oh and yes. Yuri likes the ride to the park. A lot. But? It’s the park thqts still a problem. When we go out twice a day here? He stays in one area and while there’s grass? There are no trees.

I scanned the names JJ. Went over it with a fine tooth comb. Grew up near the border so lots of people I went to school or Hebrew school with worked in the city and you never know. Thankfully nobody made the list. It’s not a list you’d wanna be in anyway.

For me it is a day of mourning, but I don’t see the reason to
call it “Patriot Day”. The people murdered weren’t militarists; they were just people who had gone to work on a beautiful late-summer day.

I was terribly worried as a friend of mine sometimes worked or had meetings at an office in the WTC. Fortunately he was working elsewhere, and a good friend of his who was working there got out alive … but alas many didn’t.
