Have you tried chicken or turkey flavor baby food?

What did they say about treating her for coccidia?

    Continued prayers

I’m so sorry little Sumi is sick, I’m really wishing hard for her to rally and get better.

Baby food sometimes works when nothing else does. If you warm it up just a little she might be better able to smell it. Cats need to smell their food to become interested. If you don’t have ready access to the baby food, just boil some chicken and puree it. As long as it’s cooked it shouldn’t hurt her and it might help.

Since you are trying to both feed her and keep her hydrated, maybe you can dilute the baby food with warm water and feed it to her through the syringe you used for the dioralyte. You might also try a little bit of plain yogurt that way.

thanks everyone. I managed to get her to take about a half teaspoon of cooked chicken breast pureed in warm water – she even lapped at the liquid. But immediately had more diahrrea. And now is not interested in the food. So we’re simmering some broth, just chicken, no skin, nothing else. And I will syringe it luke warm into her throat. It’s as if she wants to eat, approaches the saucer all interested, then just can’t. I am shattered myself, and my partner Jan is just in from work and is making her broth. I did ask about coccidia Tigerlilly, and they agreed it could be a possibility, but that the immediate treatment would be the same. Her youth is against her, as young animals suffer more severe symptoms from coccidia, and so do immuno-compromised animals, which is why they want to test her blood if they can get any tomorrow. I think they suspect FeLV. I don’t see that they could take enough blood, as the area between her skin and bones is diminishing.

I feel so awful for you and for Sumi. I hope you don’t have to make that final hard decision but know that we all support you and have been in your position ourselves.

She took 3ml of plain chicken broth by syringe. She is perkier now. Had a piddle, which is good because it shows she has fluid to spare. No diarrhea this time, so here’s praying she has no more. I’m setting the alarm again for her hot bottle and her warm broth, 3 hourly intervals. She is such a sweet little angel, she always makes her way down off her perch where I’ve set up a comfy bed on top of a suitcase (she chose this spot and I can’t get her to stay in her bed on the ground) to get to her litter box, even with a horrible awkward catheter strapped to her tiny leg.

I have dealt with feline leukemia for quite a few years, and she may be FeLV+ but diarrhea is not a symptom of feline leukemia.

Hard topic for me sorry. When you have a FelV+ cat you have a cat with no immune system. This leaves them open to everything with no immune system to fight any disease. Lysine can be given to a FeLV+ cat to help–normally will extend their life significantly. If he is FeLV+ and has a bacterial infection it will be very difficult to get blood–probably the consistancy of water and rusty colored. If you have a pharmacy try and get some lysine and give him a few drops–it helps rebuild the immune system. I am really suprised your vet didn’t already test her. Prayers of strength and comfort–this is in insideous virus.

thanks to everyone posting support and care. We’re through another night, more diahrrea-this is her 4th day of it, still won’t eat but is interested in the saucer. Goes up to it, sniffs, purrs, nearly laps, tries again, but something is stopping her short of eating or lapping. She’s had small syringes doses of broth, and just now I ground some dry kitten food and made a liquid paste with chicken broth, then syringed about 2ml into her mouth. She doesn’t object, though she doesn’t really participate either. I think the vets are concerned that this is an immune deficiency illness, which is preventing her body overcoming the bacteria. I will get lysene this morning. Thanks again

Elenki, has anyone pointed you in the direction of Gini, the TDKer who has the gorgeous Taco? He was very, very sickly as a kitten, and I’m sure his symptons were similar. I’ll see if I can find a link for you.

I had hoped by now the vet would have some answers after a blood test. I fear the worst at the time lengthens. Prayers are with you Eleniki, may you feel the peace and comfort of family and friends.

I’m sorry to post so late – it’s so wonderful to see the messages coming in, I appreciate them and you all so much. It’s been a long day, and there is good and bad to report, but overall, I am feeling good, and so so much better than last night, when we really thought little sumi was going downhill suddenly. We settled her around 1.30am, after the darkest night. Her diarrhea was awful, and she was squealing with the pain of it. At one point I held her in my lap, and she just sat looking straight into my eyes with that hollowed look, like an old spirit, and she cried non-stop for 10 minutes. It was so plain what she was saying to me – make it stop. We had syringed chicken broth and some kibble puree into her mouth and she had swallowed it, but wouldn’t eat herself. At 4am I looked in and she was fast asleep so I let her little gut have the rest. At 6am she had vile diahrrea and I tried some minced chicken mushed in broth. She was squealing on the bed as I tried desperately to wipe her poor raw behind, when suddenly she leaned down to the saucer and began to eat. That simple. Who could ever have thought such a simple sight would bring such joy? She didn’t eat a whole lot, but it was enough.

I’m sorry – don’t want to post huge blocks of text, so I’m writing what followed now.
