Solange at home

Well, the dog crate didn’t work very well. When I got home on Tuesday, I found that Solange had (1) spilled part of her water on the bed pad with which I’d lined the crate, (2) kicked cat litter into the rest of the water, and (3) kicked cat litter all over everything else. This did not strike me as a workable situation, so I just let her out. They said she wasn’t supposed to run, jump, or play for 7 to 10 days. Maybe that can be done with a 4-month-old kitten at the vet, but at home I’d have to have a supply of sedatives.

Solange is the one who’s being hissy and arching her back at Penny; Penny just sits there and looks at her. They’ve had a few times when they lay down almost together, within a foot or two of each other, and I saw one very tentative nose-touch.

The first thing to worry me happened right before I left this morning. Solange gave a very strange cry, then proceeded to bring up a large amount of very thick yakkage. It was a light tan in color, so I don’t think it had anything to do with a hairball. Within five minutes of that, Penny brought up a small amount of very thin yakkage. It was almost as if she was doing it in sympathy with her sister. Maybe Solange just ate too much too fast or something. They gave me a sample-size bag of Science Diet kitten kibble, but that’s not going to work out on a permanent basis. I opened the bag and put food in the dog crate right before going to get Solange and, as soon as I opened that bag, Penny went nuts. She meowed and yowled and stuck her paw through the bars to get pieces of the stuff to eat. After taking Solange out of the crate, I’ve just been leaving out two bowls of it. When it’s gone, I’m going to start the fish-flavored wet food back again, for both of them. I don’t have a large enough house to feed cats different foods without triggering a food fight.

They told me at the main Humane Society building that they’re just about sure Brother Louie was taken to the pet shop adoption center on Tuesday morning. He’s probably already gone, and there’s no way he’s still going to be there at the end of next month. He’s just too sweet and beautiful. I hope whoever adopts him appreciates the special feline they’re getting.

    Oh Leeny,
As have no experience with more than one kit I just hope that things settle down with Solange re food and otherwise and that the girl kits can work out any differences!

These, by the way, are the pound pictures of Solange. They really don’t do her justice.

If pics don’t do Solange justice as you say, then she must be absolutely stunning, ’cause pics won me over as a fan instantly. Gorgeous sleek kit! Have only had 2 cats in my life, both times wanted to adopt black kits, both times didn’t work out as black kits I visited with did not want to live with me, purrsonality clash I guess. Needless to say had many years and wonderful bond with tuxie Nicky now in Meadow and my current master LOL as silver grey tabby Dorry, so it’s all good. Just happy when black kits do find furrever homes!

She’s the third black cat I’ve had, and I also had a tuxie once.

Just checked the Humane Society site. Brother Louie is on it for adoption, but they say he’s still at the main building.

Solange is lovely! Amazing that they are getting along so well so quickly! Hope their tummies settle down and they settle into a nice friendship. (Don’t know anything about post spay care since mine were all fixed when I got them…but hoping miss Solange doesn’t make any leaps that would hinder her recovery.)

They said to check the incision twice a day to make sure there’s no drainage and that swelling and redness aren’t excessive. She’s had no drainage or redness. There is one little ball of skin in the area. It doesn’t look like swelling, but it doesn’t look exactly normal, either. I have to take her to her own doctor next week to get the rest of the series of some of the shots they gave her, and I’ll ask him to have a look at it.

Leeny, I’m so happy for you! I don’t know why they say to curtail a cat’s activities, I’ve had inside and outside cats that have been spayed and I just let them do whatever. They usually just take it easy and the incision takes care of itself. I don’t take the cats back to have stitches removed, I do it myself! I can see why the crate wouldn’t work for a cat her age, I have used them with little hand reared kittens to get everyone else in the house used to the new addition. New kittens just kind of lay there and get *sniffed* by everyone else. On her getting sick, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. She has just been through surgery and that in itself is probably what the problem is. Her tummy could be upset from the anesthetic, and Penny probably has sympathy yakkage, LOL!

She’s beautiful by the way, and looks like my girl Bowtie! I hope you get to adopt Louie too, keeping my fingers crossed!

Lenny she’s beautiful ! Looks like she’s my Noodles sister from another mister 😆

A lot of black kitty action going on in TDK land lately 🙂

I think your making incredible progress and your right to revert to the wet food for them both..

I suspect that yack is from the dry food especially if it’s been a while since she has had any..

As for the incision and reduced activity.. I have always found that after a spay operation the girls know their limits anyway.. So they don’t over do it.. And I’m assuming the incision has been closed with surgical glue? Best invention ever for kitties in my opinion 🙂

I had a very bad scare with Nutini after she was spayed but that’s because stitches were used and she pulled them all out with in an hour of returning home. If surgical glue had been used it wouldn’t have been an issue

She’s lovely. Very sleek. It looks like they took her photos in a florescent lighting, which isn’t very flattering to anyone – I’m sure the photos don’t do her justice 😀

Also, I just wanted to mention – when I adopted my second kitten – the rescue group fed their cats Science Diet because it was provided to them at no cost – but the lady managing the cats said it made some of the cats sick / they’d throw up after eating it. So it might just be Science Diet.

Buttons, the incision is closed with surgical glue. They also tattooed a green spot on her abdomen to indicate that she’s been spayed. Never heard of that before.

I woke up this morning to find five puddles of kitten-food-colored yakkage on the bathroom floor. After waking up fully and thinking for a minute, I decided that it probably came from Penny. First, it was quite a lot to have come from a kitten. Second, the rich kitten food probably is too much for a 9-year-old cat. As soon as I got back from my podiatrist appointment, I took up the kitten kibble. I found that the bowl nearest the door had ANTS in it! Penny spends a lot of time near the door staring at the bottom of it; I think insects come in there. I threw that away and gave the girls the wet food to which Penny was accustomed. They both gave enthusiastic meows upon smelling it. Solange jumped right up on the kitchen counter and dug right in. (I let her stay there because I don’t do food prep any more, so it really doesn’t matter.) I put Penny’s bowl on a table in the living room, and she ate a little bit.

Now I’m going to have to ask my friends if they’ll vacuum the ants out of my carpet. I may have to bomb the place. When all the stuff in the house is sorted and stowed, the realty company will talk to the landlord about having that crummy carpet taken up and replaced with vinyl flooring.
