AZD – I travel with my Abby all the time. She goes on plane trips, and on 12 hr. car rides from Fla. to NC. She does great! Here are my best tips: She has a mesh carrier that she can see me and hear my voice. In the bottom I put her familiar sheepskin round that she always sleeps in at home, and her favorite stuffed toy. I withold food from midnight the night before the trip – she usually always has used the litterbox over night. I let her have a little water, but take it away about 2 hours before we leave. On plane flights, she is fine – getting through security is the hardest because you have to take her out of the carrier, but she just clings to me and goes easily back in her carrier. She sleeps the entire flight – I speak softly to her every now and then, and can reach in and pet her often. For car rides, I do put a litter box in the back where she can climb in if she needs it – once I’m in the car, I open her carries so she can roam if she wants. We’ve made this trip 3 times, and she has never felt the need to get out and use her box, but she knows it’s there. She also rarely gets out of her carrier (bed). She may peak out , but usually just switches positions and goes back to sleep. Really a pleasant trip. Most important tip is that when we arrive at our destination, I take her litterbox out first, then her and put her by it, and she usually goes right in. Good luck. I love traveling with kitties!
