Hello everyone again. So my silly cat been doing this thing lately with his water dish, we clean it and put fresh water in it all the time but he picks the bowl up with his teeth or pushes it over with his paw spilling the water all over. And me and my husband don’t know why he keeps doing it. We give him plenty of love and attention.

Sounds like your cat is just enjoying playing with water. Is it possible to put his water bowl on a tray with side to help contain the mess but still allow him to paddle in the water. Maybe a ping pong in the bowl for him to bat at may be more fun than tipping the bowl over. My cat used to love water play but grew out of it. Just go with his new found fun while making it as safe and mess free as possible.
If you cat is small it might be an idea to keep the toilet seat lid closed.

Hi Kayla – sounds like you have a water-loving kitten! My Comet is 6 years old and likes to play with the water bowl. He pushes it around so the water sloshes out of it.

Hi Kayla, my cat has two water bowls. One is kept beside the kitchen sink, on the draining board. The other is in the bath!

He doesn’t play with water every day now (he’s quite grown up) but when he does, there’s no problem with spills. They go straight down the plug hole – and I just top the bowls up when they need it.

If your cat enjoys playing with water, he’s not going to stop because of the splashes. That may be part of the fun. But in that case – is there somewhere you can let him play without causing more work for yourself?
