I got a kitten from a shelter last Wednesday and right away i noticed she was sneezing (no coughing) and had a runny nose and eyes. I took her to the vet the next day and got antibiotics for her eyes and the sneezing which seems to have solved the problem. I then noticed a patch above her eye a few days ago and took her to the vet for that as well and they told me it was ringworm. My kitten runs around and acts as healthy as can be, however, my roommates 3 year old cat got a terrible fever and has been hiding and not eating, she took her to the vet and they didn’t know what was wrong but gave her antibiotics just in case and told her to bring her back if they didn’t help. I figured she just happened to be sick at the same time as my kitten since until my dad called me and said my cat at home has been acting the exact same way as my roommates cat. I had to take my cat home for the weekend so she was around the cat at my parents. Has anyone had this happen before? Any advice? The vets don’t know what’s going on with my roommates cat or my parents cat!

Well apparently they caught something from your kitten(this happens a lot) so as long as they respond tothe antibiotics and any other stuff the vet ordered they hopefully will be ok.

Whenever you bring a new fur member into your house always get them checked out and get the combo test. Also I keep mine quarantined for at least a week after the vet visit just to make sure.

Good luck,I hope all goes well with you.

my kitten is doing great, the ringworm looks better and her eyes and sneezing have completely cleared up. But my roommates cat is being kept in my roommates room and continues to not eat, her fever has gone down though. My roommate has to force feed her. Since my kitten seems perfectly healthy now, it was hard for me to believe that she could have given something to Dash (the roommates cat) but she must have if my cat at my parents is acting the same way. Both Dash and Molly (the cat at my parents) do seem to be SLOWLY getting better with antibiotics though.

all the cats are much better now! the older cats are acting normal again and the little one is almost completely rid of her ringworm (although I’m going to continue treating it, because I heard it will come back worse if you stop too soon) thanks dee & buttercup for your advice and concern. 🙂

Glad to hear all the cats are feeling better. Cats can pass “colds” around just like humans. Your kitten could still have been contagious despite feeling better, and ofthen there is an incubation period for germs. Meaning that it took the others a few days to start feeling sick obnce they caught the cold.

Yes, make sure you finish the ringworm treatment! It is contagious- to humans, cats, dogs…you want to make sure that you eradicate it.
