How many of us can remember the first book we bought?
Today is Paperback Book Day, which reminds us while electronic books and e-readers are popular, there’s still something very special about an old-fashioned book. Rummage through your house, find a fave paperback, sit back and enjoy a good read on this Caturday…with your furry friend, of course. Since we’ve been enjoying Milk Chocolate and Lasagna Days, I figured we can have a slice of that most decadent of desserts, cheesecake, with our coffee/tea and book.

    Crossover pic –
    Lasagne cheesecake
    & part two –

Perfect topic choice PG re the cheesecake. We had dinner out this evening at a Texas themed bar/restaurant. Great meals and daughter had a Kahlua cheesecake with ginger biscuit/cookie base that was superb. She let me share it with her. 😀 😀 We were celebrating our son in laws birthday.
Gosh paperbacks, it’s been sometime since I bought a book but once Mr MS and I had a huge collection of Louis L’amour, Zane Grey and many other westerns.

Good morning! Thanks for the anniversary wishes and adorable kitty pics. We had a great dinner. The restaurant was just as good as I remembered and absolutely the perfect date night ambiance. I went with the chicken parm…yum. And had cheesecake for dessert…delicious. I’m developing a tradition it seems. Last year on cheesecake day I’d had cheesecake the night before at my anniversary dinner. It’s one of those things that I only eat in restaurants….and only after a really special meal, usually Italian.

Well, we’re doing tha anti-paperback thing today and anxiously awaiting the new Harry Potter book. It will magically appear on our Kindles at midnight!

So nice that you were welcomed home by outdoor and indoor kits, Joan. Hopefully Mac will get his groove back today.

Forgot to mention….the reason I know it’s been about 20 years since I’d been to that Italian restaurant is that I was a single gal and went with a certain young man not named Mr. ECB. :). We were just friends though.

Morning all! Love love the pics and theme today! …. Caturday is usually my day to relax, read on the porch and munch on my favorite leftovers (lasagna would be one of them)! … I woke up to heavy rain, yet sun shine galore! (only in Florida) ….. glad I put A’tuin’s cover on last night, so he and Bluebell are dry and cozy ….
EC, your anniversary sounds like a lovely evening, now I might have to make lasagna for Mr. AV this weekend! Mr. AV and handy Scott are up to their usual HIP projects, so the noise of men tromping in the attic overhead does not bode well for me sleeping in today :/
God my tickets to go visit Dau and SIL for my birthday in Sept. can’t wait! …. have a restful Caturday all!

Hot and steamy here again, but we did get a small shower yesterday evening. It needs to rain here for about 3 days, but that’s not going to happen as this is the dry season for here. Doesn’t go well with trying to grow crops but that’s the adventure in farming I guess. 😛
Going to do some Hazeling even though my heart isn’t in it, but it will be worth it in the end I guess. I AM so glad it’s Caturday though, will check in with you all later! Have a wonderful one to start with!

Afternoon all! … well, it’s rained on/off all day today, with the sun still shinning most of the time! …..
funny story from Dau – she and hubs (first time I’ve called him that) ….. got tickets to go see the local minor league baseball practice in Delaware, and when they got there it was a monkey rodeo (yes, you read that right, a monkey rodeo!) LOL!! what is that you ask? it’s little monkeys riding on the backs of border collies, herding little Rams – too funny, she sent the most hilarious pics! As much as it was weird, she said it was a blast (oh yeah, and they served beer at the concession) ….. LOL

Hi everyone – been catching up on laundry, mail, hazeling, etc. along with a rain-induced nap with Comet. It’s super humid again today.
Saw a recipe for Pierogie lasagna, sounds awesome! Might have to make it!
I have several paperbacks, but do a lot of reading on my kindle. Paperback books make for great beach reading.
One of the dessert selections at dinner the other night was a creme brûlée cheesecake, however I opted for chocolate cake. 🙂
A monkey rodeo sure sounds interesting!

Good morning all, it’s a cold, wet and windy day here although the sun has just peeked out to taunt us. We will be getting to about 10C-50F today and lower with the wind chill factor. There is a weather pattern skudding up the country straight from Antarctica. HRH was snorty and sneezy during the night so is not being allowed out today. She is coming to realise this and actually used her litter tray that I always have out ‘just in case’ she is caught short overnight. We lit the fire and assumed she would cucrl up in front of it but you all know cats. She has ignored it and prefers to sit looking out the door.
EC, a lovely anniversary evening out and cheesecake too.
AV, you are so kind to keep Bluebell dry and cozy. Oh, lovely sun showers. Oh no, DIY in the attic just when you want to relax.
KZ, your weather sounds like what we have been getting here in parts of NZ for some years, no rain and yet more no rain. It is quite desperate in some areas with no pasture left and crops not growing properly and farmers having to sell up or graze their stock in other areas. I hope you get your three days on steady but not torrential rain sooner rather than later.
AV, I have to ask, were the monkeys real or just toy monkeys on the border collies? They served beer? You mean they don’t usually serve beer at concession stands in the US. I always thought they did?
I was just preparing a slowcooker beef stew and it started out as an Irish stew but somehow ended up as a Moroccan stew. Could be an interesting meal this evening.
JJ,the rain induced nap with Comet sounds lovely. I wish Shadz would settle down but she is trying to get outside by any method. Mr MS was in the basement loading up more firewood and caught her from the corner of his eye coming down her zig zag ramps so he hurridly shut the basement door. She gave him major stink-eye and turned around and climbed back up the zig zags inside.
    🙄 🙄

    Evening,
I get most of my books at the library as if I buy a book it will likely end up on the shelf unless it’s one that I plan to re-read at some point and glean new insights. Or unless I was compelled to buy it having dropped it in bathtub. 🙄 Don’t have a kindle as prefurr something that I can hold in my hands that’s paper. Someone at Knit Circle recommended an author who works are medieval mysteries featuring Chaucer as sleuth, and turns out available at library so have to check this out.
That cheesecake lasagna looks quite awesome, esp the caramel sauce.
JJ, nothing quite like a rain-induced nap esp with kit. When ensconced indoors I love storms (so long as power remains intact!) thunder, lightening and rain pounding against windowpane, mmm … We might get aforementioned rain, although they’ve breen predicting srs rain on almost daily basis for like 2 wks and hasn’t happened as yet.
Well, having slept for most of day, and tehn having done marathon knitting session I’m headed back to same bed. Night!

I also use the library most often – our library system is named “Nelligan” after a famous Québec poet of Irish descent – we can borrow books from any branch via interlibrary loan.

The cheesecake I make isn’t so very decadent as it is an Italian type based on ricotta, not cream cheese. But it is very tasty. http://www.marthastewart.com/349964/italian-ricotta-cheesecake The recipe I use is in Italian, and I don’t feel like translating it – too much like work. Martha’s recipe is similar, though I’d halve the sugar, and if I’m going to eat sugar, I’d prefer maple sugar or syrup. There are MANY recipes for this on the net.
