“You can’t cover up the swagger of a cowboy.” Jaycee Ford

Today we celebrate the contribution of Cowboys and Cowgirls. You can attend a rodeo or ride a horse. The name cowboy is most probably a direct translation of the Spanish word vaquero from vaca meaning cow. Several historians note the word cowboy was previously used in Ireland and may have some connection with that source.

Evening, how appropriate that I am watching High Chaparral at the moment. When we were farming we used to attend rodeos as spectators. Our boss had a quarter horse and did various events and his daughter did barrel racing.

HRH has gone outside for ‘walkies’ just as I want to go to bed. Now I have to wait until she decides she is going to come inside. Sigh

Good morning – love the kitty straddling the couch pretending he’s a cowboy. Comet gets the nickname Buckaroo sometimes, when I’m not calling him Shorty or Sport or Chief or Sarge.
Clint Eastwood is my favorite cowboy, along with John Wayne of course.
Hubby is watching an episode of “The Rifleman”, his western fix for the day!

Sister is going to the farmer’s market today. She usually doesn’t set up on Saturdays, but there are some extra activities planned, so maybe the extra stuff will draw in more people. It is a picture-perfect day here in Jersey.

Morning all! Wet wet wet here! Its rained for three days straight! ….. Doesnt bother me, but makes a mess of the streets and roadways …. More house maintenance today, seems like its always something with a 106 year old home …. Need to go to the store, but I think I’ll wait til the monsoon abates …..

Hi all! Today’s been fun…got older son back from camp! This morning before we left to get him younger son said he didn’t sleep well last night because he was so excited to get his brother back….awwww! We took subs in a cooler and stopped at a state park on the way home…lovely. Doing all his nasty laundry now…lol. And he did have a great time. And I’m sooo proud of him for doing something that was a little scary, but he knew was worth the risk.

I’m recovering a bit from my funk about the cats’ teeth. It is discouraging, but can’t let it steal my joy. That was a grant article you linked on stomatitis, PG. I’m definitely all for being aggressive with extractions. I wouldn’t commit to bringing Lucy home until I found a vet who agreed. That vet ended up ill and unable to do the surgery, but I nudged Lucy’s new vet in that direction. Problem now is that my kits have tooth resorption but not stomatitis. I think full mouth extraction is a pretty widely accepted treatment for stomatitis, but not resorption. Problem is the resorptions keep coming, so I’d think staying ahead and taking the teeth that are likely to be next makes sense. Seems it would be the only way to prevent pain…it progresses so quickly. They boys were freshly “dentaled” last summer and Emily’s mouth looked perfect at her check up. Now Eko and Emily are definitely in pain and Leo may be…she couldn’t see his mouth as well.

Mmm, smelling the berry crisp in the oven for son’s welcome home dinner. 🙂

There’s a movie on later called The Cowboys, starring John Wayne. Wish it was on a bit later in the evening, but might watch it anyway. Looks like it’s about a cattle rancher whose crew quits to join the gold rush, so he gets a bunch of boys together to help him.
It’s a bit warmer than predicted, and the humidity is creeping up. Went down the mountain earlier for milk and the rest areas are packed with out-of-towners going hiking in Norvin Green State Forest. Lots of bikes (motorcycles) on the road too, as well as a Model A, which happened to be my brother in law!

I’m so glad to hear son had a good time, ECB!
Your thinking on the dental issues makes sense. May as well be proactive and in doing so it will prevent unnecessary pain.

ECB, very interesting hearing your thoughts about your cats. I am totally ignorant on those issues. Could you tell me where to look for PG’s link on stomatitis? I know this may sound weird, but I don’t like to be ignorant about cat issues…I mean, so many people here know so many things and what better teachers than people who have been through it. To my knowledge, none of my cats have teeth issues, except Maxwell my outside kitty and he has had such awful feline herpes. I have tried everything, and nothing totally gets rid of it. It could be worse if he wasn’t getting lysine everyday and good food, etc. So glad your son had a great time, I know what you mean about the other problems stealing your joy. It’s this underlying nagging problem that you feel you can’t totally focus on what you need to focus on…UGH!

    Fun theme!
Tks for including Canadian cowboys as looks to be purrhaps Calgary Stampede, PG.
And that vid MS – ROTFL! Had heard (herd?) of it but never actually saw it ’til now.
I remember watching The Rifleman and Branded, and Bonanza, where I admittedly had crush on oldest bro Adam hehehe. And The Big Valley. Never rode a horse, would like to someday, looks like fun. Until horse tosses me off. Might stick to pony rides at the petting zoo. 😉
