Not cat related, but still extremely cute 🙂

A few months ago a friend of mine and his wife took in a family of orphaned hedgehogs from a rescue shelter which didn’t have the room or resources to look after them. They have been going from strength to strength putting on the weight they need to be able to hibernate. As you can see in the video they don’t have any problems eating 🙂

Oh my gosh, those little things are adorable!! I am sorry to say that I know absolutely NOTHING about hedgehogs, as they are not native here, but they are in some pet shops, and they are one pet that I have never owned. So wonderful that your friends took the responsibility of caring for and raising them!! Thanks for sharing that video!!

    COA WARNING ! !
So cute and the sounds of all that eating is hilarious. They certainly know how to put away the cat food.
Thanks for sharing that wonderful vid.
We have hedgehogs here, wild. In the evening you can hear them snuffling and grunting amongst the shrubbery and in the morning I see their little digging marks in the lawn. Sometimes I toss out some food for them to find overnight. They do carry some nasty bacteria, fungal and viruses here and are a threat to some of our smaller native weta and skinks. That said they are a lovely creature and we just let them go about their business in our gardens unmolested.

Someone somewhere found a baby animal on the sidewalk. No clue what it was he fed it. It grew and they became buddies. What was it?? Squirrel! Evidently? You can domesticate an infant squirrel.

aww KM would ya look at them 🙂 how great of your friends to help. wild hedgehogs are very hard to domesticate. well as you mentioned the nocturnal nature of them it’s so hard to simulate the right conditions ! I don’t know if you remembered I rescued 2 over the last two years one made it into the dogs pen :0 and I got him back safely to the wild he wasn’t injured thank god! and the other my brother brought al te way from Kerry late one night.. poor thing she had a nasty gash and fly strike 🙁 it was so sad.. I did what I could for her though the night and got her to a specialist vet in the morning but she sadly passed away 🙁 I so happy your friends have these little ones safe and well..

oh as a little side note all hedgehogs are virtually blind and African albino hedgehogs (the ones you can buy in pet stores) do not hybernate
also in Ireland it’s illegal to take a hedgehog from the wild if found injured it must be brought to a vet so technically when I had the one my brother brought me
overnight I was breaking the law..

You know Buttons? Sometimes it’s important to break the law to save a life. When it comes to Rabbit and deer young though? If you touch them the mother will reject them. I’m sure you know that but did you know that during earlier years wars soldiers would refuse an order that would harm innocent civilians? And it’s still recognized today as an option. What we do or don’t do is our personal choice most times and sometimes people don’t get a choice. I’ll give you two examples from your country which the govt has a choice. One is the Romani which they insist must leave and the other the migrants who they feel they must shelter. I won’t get into all the other issues….not for this forum but? Life is precious and despite the problems some Romani could be? Do you lump them all into the same category? The govt does despite the problem some migrants have been in Germany etc.

yes I think sometimes rules must be broken to help defensless creatures.

I’m a little confused as to the rest I your comment.. I think I understand your political views but TDK isn’t the place to discuss such things .. We try to keep comments and replies to the specific questions asked or the topic at hand to make sure no confusion or offence is caused.. we all have Passionate personal and political opinions but they aren’t really suitable topics of discussion in TDK we like to keep things light hearted , to the point and fluffy 🙂 fluffy is best 🙂
