We’re trying rescue remedy for the first time for Leo’s vet appt tomorrow. Does anyone know how long the effects last? The package doesn’t say. I’m putting it in his breakfast and the appt is a couple hours later. I may try giving him a little more before we leave. We use a calming spay too…but he still gets awfully upset. We’re hoping this helps.

Leo is zooming around the house this morning….pretty sure the calming drops had the opposite effect for him, so I won’t give him more before we leave. Oh well, maybe the rescue remedy will be helpful for the other cats if we move this summer. We’ll see how the vet visit goes.

LOL…my husband just said the calming drops worked….the rest of Leo’s world just got a lot calmer in comparison.

Well, right before we left he seemed to calm down a little. So maybe there is an initial energy burst then a calming. He made it through the weigh in without hissing, which is unusual. Then he was pretty hissy but no growling. So maybe the drops helped a little….not sure.

I had heard of someone’s cat responding the opposite of the intended effect. Not sure if it was Rescue Remedy or whether the cat eventually settled down.

Yay for Leo! Can he come have a chat with Leela? I have calming treats which I will give her next time we have to go, which I hope is not soon.

I use them for Bob when he goes nuts at full moon. It kicks in within a half an hour, and usually last a few hours. I love the stuff for him.

I tried it on Mi for a vet visit, and it had no effect. Vet said “this is Milo on Rescue Remedy?”, and promptly prescribed some “real” tranquilizer. I hated what that did to him, though, and am going to try a different vet where they use some kind of gas to calm them in their carrier. It stops having effect immediately when they stop administering it.

The gas sounds promising, GD. I remember your story about the tranquilizer (that was back when my posts were invisible) and will be very slow to ever use one after your experience.

Really, since Leo has never bitten or scratched anyone I’m a little surprised that the vet seems as freaked out by him. She didn’t even examine him besides looking at his gums (at my request.) And once on a different visit they didn’t even take him out of his crate! I almost took him to Lucy’s vet today (I’d already discussed his demeanor with them and asked about their approach), but since we might move this summer I figured I’d just stay with the old one and find a new one after we move.
