Hello everyone! I am glad this place exists!

We just found a black male kitten. He has not cried once and adapted very well to the entire family. He used the litter box first time and eats whatever we put out. I am lucky…so can I be a baby now? lol He was SO attached to me! I could not leave his sight and I knew it was a matter of time before he became friends with my animal CRAZY 8 year old! Now he will not have anything to do with me or my other 2 girls. Yes, I am thankful but I miss the little guy. Is it common for a kitten to have a favorite human? I wondered if a kitten would find more comfort from a child anyway. Do kittens grow into cats that will love us all again? ๐Ÿ™

By the way….help us with a name!!! He is black with the golden looking eyes. The kids have picked “Spooky” or “October” or “Trick or Treat”

He looks just like one of those Halloween cats you find coming out of a pumpkin especially when he arches his back to stretch. Thanks for all of your help!!!

Welcome to TDK. I am partial to Onyx or Midnight. You never know who your cat will bond with, but they will look for affection when they need or want it. Don’t forget to come and chat in the cafe or night shift and share stories about your little bundle of joy!

October is a very sweet name!

I have only noticed my kitten becoming very attached to me (as well as my fiance) because we are hand raising him. I think it’s natural for them to click with a particular human.

Our cats each have their favorite person at certain times of the day. Cheetah and Squeaky always cuddle up to me about 3 in the morning and want nothing to do with their daddy. But in the evening when hubby is in his recliner, Squeaky has to be on top of him. If I’m in the recliner, she ignores me.

Maybe your little black kitty senses how much your eight-year-old likes him and that’s made a special bond.

Welcome. Many of our kitties have their own favorite people. Fortunately since we have 9, none of us feel left out Lol.

How about a Shakespeare name such as Hamlet, Othello…I fostered 3 babies last yr and named them Romeo, Juliet and Montague. Montague and Juliet are in loving homes (they kept their names) and we lucked out with Romeo!

My very first cat was a black cat. I named him Pepperoni. Peppy for short.

    Congratulations on your new baby!

BTW, maybe we could be of more assistance with names if we saw his cute picture for inspiration ๐Ÿ™‚

My Jetta is a black cat. My vet named her. I couldn’t think of a name, either, and said Jet but I didn’t like that, especially for a girl, so she said how about Jetta? Also, someone I knew said animals will give away their names, to watch their personalities for a few days and the purrfect name will come to you! You said he hasn’t cried… my girl didn’t meow for almost nine months, I though she didn’t know how.. turns out she had nothing to say till then, but once she started… OY! can’t shut the girl up! Enjoy your new baby and welcom to TDK!

Hi, Shannon. Welcome to TDK! I agree–cats do decide who “their person” will be. My husband and I are owned by three cats, Digit, Furl and Boots. Furl is his special kitty. Digit is my special kitty and Boots has both of us at her beck and call. lol

Please post a link to photos when you get a chance. Click on my avatar to see pics of my three girls. ๐Ÿ™‚

When we got Stinkey in ’96, I was a week away from being 8, and even though my mom and brother were apart of her life, she’s always been my cat… maybe kids have strange ways of bonding, and the kitties can easily relate???

Or maybe they like that kids are smaller.

I once had a black cat named Chance, but I called him Booger… hah, I was young though, and I still stink with naming kitties!

How old do you think your kitten is?? Charlie was around 3 weeks, so I was constantly touching him, and being his “momma cat” that he’s now almost 1 and still comes to me every morning, night, every time I go to the bathroom (I don’t close it all the way knowing he’ll follow me in), and is always around me.

But even though I got Tiger around 6 weeks old, I didn’t have to constantly watch him and give him the love charlie missed out on, so he’s really independent from me. Plus High School kept me away for hours at a time while he developed ๐Ÿ™ He still gets love on occasion, but he’s nothing like Charles.

I agree with waiting to see what name pops up when you’re playing/watching him.
