Hello! So about a year ago I asked you guys if my kitten was too small and some of you told me he’ll grow into his paws and he certainly did!

Lately he’s been drinking more water than usual, which I suppose is normal because he is not eating as much wet food as he used too. He is 4 kg (8.8 pounds) and drinks a little less than a cup of water a day. Is it normal or should I take him to the vet?

    Anyway this is Theo:

Well Theo is very handsome 🙂 so good to see updates 🙂

Normally cats that eat dry food will drink lots of water and cats that eat wet food drink hardly any as they get 90% of the moisture they need from the wet food.. Cats more than any other domestic animal have the ability to derive nearly all the hydration they need from the meat they eat.. So they can go a long time without water as long as they have meat. If he’s not eating as much as usually and is drinking a little more then a vet check might be no harm it’s recommend for young cats to have yearly check ups anyway and elderly cats to get at least two check ups in a year.

There are a few reasons for an increase in water consumption diabetes being one if them but Theo is very young …

    Best of luck 🙂

Sorry it took me a while but I finally took Theo to the vet. As for the water intake everything is fine but now they want to take an X ray because they fear he might have Tracheitis, but it might also just be a hairball. They’re taking the x-rays tomorrow and hopefully everything is ok.

    Hi Silvia,
Good that you had the vet visit and are keeping on top of this situation. Hoping that the x-rays reveal something simple, like a hairball, or that whatever is going on has a solution. Please keep us updated. (((Silvia and Theo))).

Hi guys thank you so much for your concern! We just came back from the vet and everything is ok. The x-rays didn’t show anything to worry about and they did show a very healthy cat! They now think it’s allergies and that I should avoid using perfumes and cleaning products near him. Finally they gave him some child cold medicine and told me he should be cough free in 5 days. They still want me to call if something changes but for now I’m just very happy that it wasn’t something more serious. 🙂

Phew! Thanks for pawsitive update, Silvia! IMHO Theo is well worth giving up perfume and cleaning products for! 🙂
