Good morning everyone 🙂 My Gypsy is doing sooo much better (she’s had URI and diarrhea from possible parasites). Her stools are no longer bloody and they have firmed up. She occasionally sneezes, but her eyes and nose are clear. She is eating and drinking, playing and purring.

I brought her home last Tuesday, so today it’s been like 8 days.

My question is, what is the incubation period for distemper? When will I no longer have to worry that she might have caught distemper from the animal shelter or vet?

I plan on vaccinating her, but when I took her to the vet yesterday the vet agreed we should wait on the vaccination because she was sick.

    Thank you for the help!

Thanks for purry update on Miss Gypsy, Liz!
Suggest that the vet be best professional to answer your question as he/she has details of kitty’s medical history. Perhaps a phone call would get you your answer and ease your mind. Hope that this helps.

Hi Liz – glad Gypsy is feeling better. I would think that as soon as her symptoms are cleared up, she can be vaccinated.

On Tuesday it will have been two weeks since I brought her home 🙂 Her diarrhea has stopped and she’s now fighting off the URI. I’ve been giving her L-Lysine chew every day. On November 11th she is scheduled to be spayed and get her distemper vaccine (hopefully she will be completely better by then – she hasn’t had a fever in several days). They will also test her for FIV/FeLV
As far as the URI it’s mostly just sneezing a little bit and a stuffy nose. Her eyes have stayed clear so far and has had little to no clear discharge.
I think I was just nervous about the distemper and how soon she could show symptoms if she caught it, but as more time goes by I start to feel better and it helped my anxiety by getting her spay appointment scheduled especially since she will get vaccinated on the same day 🙂

Great to hear Gypsy is doing so well Liz. Keep up the L-lysine, it is amazing stuff.
