This project is for my kitty, named hunter. Currently, he’s a 4 week old stray kitty. He’s active-he likes to play around with things, he’s curious about everything, and he doesn’t get scared easily! He also has a resting sad face which I find super adorable!

    But it’s not just that…

Hunter is currently skinny and he has potbelly. He has some type of worm inside of him (My guess is a roundworm) and is eating away all his nutrition! His fur is not very healthy as well. He is always easily cold because of the lack of fur or the very thin (you can still see his bare, pink skin) fur he has so he has to sleep with a blanket and a heater. He cries when he poops/pees like he’s in pain when he does it. He also has lice but it’s not that bad – but it’s still there anyway.

Although, I can just as easily give him back to the friend that gave it to me, I can’t back down on him. I don’t want to give up on my kitty, no matter what!

Since it’s my first time ever owning a kitten this small, I am in need of suggestions and advices or things I can do to be there for him.

Hi Francesca, your little kitten sounds adorable. He will need to see the vet to get worm medication and check for other internal parasites. You can comb the lice nits off of his fur until he’s old enough for a medication to rid him of fleas and lice. Having worms and lice will make his fur lack luster, but once he’s rid of them and getting good nutrition, he will grow into a beautiful furry kitten. Remember, you can’t catch lice from your kitten, however, if there are other cats in the house, they can. Lice are species specific–meaning they are specific to the animal that they are on.
I don’t know who gave your kitten to you, but if they took it from the mother, he is way to young to be weaned. They usually aren’t weaned and taken from the mom until 8 to 10 weeks. If it was found alone, then you must be dropper feeding or using a bottle. I will post a couple of sites that you might find useful. Good luck and let us know how he is doing!

Goat’s milk is great for young kittens, too and much cheaper than the replacement milk. You can find it in cans in the baking aisle of the grocery. Since it is condensed, you will need to mix with water 1 to 1.

Thanks for the tip! I already sent him to the vet and had him dewormed. Currently waiting for him to poop worms right now 🙂 I also got him some vitamins that would make him want to eat more, also food that helps him gain more weight. I was wondering how else I could give him heat when he’s about to sleep. I want him to sleep as sound as possible. Should I get him a bed?

I’m happy cause he’s really active right now and everyone in the family is playing with him. Also how about taking a bath? Should I give him a bath regularly? Once a week perhaps?

I have milk but the vet gave me the “BIO MILK”. Also he’s not drinking water from the bowl, should I get him a feeding bottle?

He’s too young to want to drink water from a bowl yet, I think. Yes, I would get a bottle and a bed. You can put a heating pad on low wrapped in a towel in his nest with room to crawl off if he gets too hot. Make sure you look at the links I posted, they really will answer a lot of your questions. Good luck!

I did and they proved to be really helpful! Thanks 🙂 I just got him dewormed and he’s been pooping but it seems that he has poop leaking out of his anus? Is this normal? Is this because of the deworming process? If so, how long would it take?
