    My prayers for Rotley’s health and well being and many more years with his loving family. If anyone can boost his immune system and give him the TLC he needs to pull through this, it is Ruggles and you Emma. {{{{{Hugs}}}}}

Thanks all of you — any wonder why so many people love this site?

And Bumblebee, I have a call in to my vet to discuss the Kidney Support Gold. I am still so scared of losing my baby, but what I have to remember is that all whom we guard were put into our hands by our loving Father, and He will take them from us at the right time.

But it still hurts so much.

Emma, I have only just now seen this. I am so sorry that you are going through this – I know how loved Rotley is. But there are many ways of treating this now and so we will all remain so hopeful.

You know that Rotley is in my prayers – as are you.

Hang in there, Emma! If you caught it fairly early, effective treatment (management, not curative) for chronic renal failure is available. I hope you’re able to explore the options available for Rotley.

    Hugs! And good luck.

Katthays, I remember your darling “Mo” — and hopefully Rotley will have some time before he has to go, the same as your sweet and very loved baby. Thanks for the kind words!

    Update:

The vet told me to TRY to get Ruggles on the same diet as Rotley (special and expensive KD dry and wet foods), but to TRY VERY HARD to get Rotley on this.

    So I tried.

Rotley seems to take to the new foods quite well, and although he’s been sneaking some bites of the regular wet stuff when I put it out for Ruggles, Rotley seems to be showing some improvement.

Now, about introducing Ruggles to KD: I prepared lovely dishes of the different (and yes, very expensive) KD foods for Ruggles. Details are below:

    1. I lightly heated a little dish of the wet stuff and put some Friskies gravy on top.

    2. He took one mouthful, glared at me, and spat out the entire wet wad (eewww).

    3. Ruggles proceeded to scrape OVER it like it was something in his litter box.

    4. He then turned around and kicked invisible dirt over it and stalked off like Lady Macbeth

I put five tiny pieces of the KD dry food in Ruggles’ regular dry food. The five pieces were carefully placed on the mat next to his food dish this morning.

    ANY suggestions?!?

“Toppers” work for some cats when trying a new food. Sprinkling something they like on top, like parmesan cheese, fish flakes (bonito is one brand), crumbled freeze-dried chicken breast (called pure bites…in the treat aisle, but if they like them there are cheaper ways to get freeze dried chicken), crushed temptation treats, crushed kibble. I have a variety of toppers here and use them regularly….sometimes to get them to start a meal, sometimes to get them to finish. With 4 cats, and me wanting to serve a variety, there will always be someone who needs some incentive to “dig in.”

Ask your vet about sprinkling a little lite salt on the food. The potassium would be good for him and it might make the food taste a little better.

I will. When I called my vet last night, she suggested having quarterly checkups for the little fellow, but I’ll call her next week to check on the salt. The one that I really hope will fall in love with the new diet is Ruggles.

    However, so far……

When I told the vet about my problems with Ruggles last night, we agreed that you can’t “out-stubborn” a cat.
