    Hello.

We rescued two male kittens at 7 weeks old. They have been very close companions for the almost 8 weeks we have had them in our home. Last night one of the kittens, Sparrow, went missing after we let them out for a nightly game of catching fireflies. We suspect after speaking with a neighbor who has been fond of him she took him into her home. As ridiculous as what might have occurred I know he is being petted, loved, not in danger. (We have already tripled checked around the grounds of our home, called SPCA, drove around the block although the kitten never has strayed farther than the backyard or climbed the front tree, plus he has always stayed with his brother). So we are going on the hope he is with her and eventually we will see him again.

My wonderment and my daughters distress is Stark, Sparrow’s brother has not in the past 14 hours seemed at all concerned or upset his brother is gone. Is this normal for kittens to be thisclose for life & when separated by whatever cause not be affected? Even with the belief Sparrow is alright we are very unsettled about not being able to ensure he is alright. Makes me just a little bothered his brother is not…I know that must sound weird.

If Stark is not freaking out, is Sparrow probably not either?

I think we are searching for some condolence in our own minds Sparrow is fine.

    Thank you.

Sometimes cats react, sometimes they don’t. My Grumpy man didn’t react when his mom disappeared.

I would try not to worry. I’m sure both boys are fine.

I raised 2 brothers whose mother was killed. They were very close from when I got them at 10 days up to the time Nike left at 9 1/2 weeks. My cat Deuter, the brother, never seemed to miss Nike.

I visited the shelter today and snuggles the last of Mena’s babies that was going to his forever home (with is brother, no less!)and it seemed to me that none of them reacted. I’m lucky that I made each kitten a “baby book” with photos of each kitten since it was a few hours old, and it included my email, and the new adoptive moms have emailed me with updates!

i think that perhaps they do not really miss each other.
