It’s me again. Miss Bellatrix is at it again. This time peeing on the bed. She does it maybe once a week. Over night we keep her in the spare room (with litter tray, toys and food of course) because we can’t quite trust her yet. Anyway we let her out of a morning, take her upstairs, feed her and everything. This morning did all that, had her upstairs for about half and hour then took her down stairs. My bf played with her on our bed while I showered. About 10 minutes after my shower we discover she’s peed on the bed…. Again. Her litter box is the room right next door. She knows where it is. The annoying thing is most of the time she leaves our room, uses her tray and comes back so it’s not a daily thing.
Could it be that she’s having too much fun playing and doesn’t realize she needs to go until it’s too late? We want to stop locking her away at night but every time I think she’s going really well, she pees on the bed! Any advice on how to stop this?

Danni? Food. Whatever you’re feeding her she’s allergic to. I know all the signs of food allergies. Yuri has a whole host of them. It’s what’s in the food you’re giving him. Mariners catch is bad for Yuri, now he’s trying to poo outside and having neurological reactions which? Go away with the elimination of the offender. He cries before we go to bed only because he’s confused and the ceiling fan is now off. Adjustment to fall/winter stuff. But now again he’s thrusting his tongue through his teeth when he sleeps. See what some ingredients will do to some cats? He’s 6 months and believe me…all Siamese have such allergies and sensitivities. Do you have a Siamese?

    Hi Danni,
I think it’s a case of a toddler playing and forgetting that they have to make it to the litterbox and don’t get there in time. Why don’t you move the litterbox into the bedroom for now and after you have fed her, wait a few minutes and then put her into the litterbox so she will go. Cats can get really excited when playing (I don’t remember how old your cat is) and especially if you are playing with her on the bed, which really isn’t a good idea especially if you are wanting her to sleep with you at night there. She is going to associate the bed with playtime and won’t settle down when it’s time to sleep. You will also need to wash your blankets that have pee on them with an enzymatic cleaner (spray with that first, then wash) so she can’t smell pee on them and continue to keep doing it.

Another thought: if she continues to do this, you may want to make an appointment with the vet. If she could have a URI (urinary tract infection) or crystals in her bladder, it can be painful. If she associates the litterbox with pain, she will look to go somewhere else.

Or Danni? Just do what I do. I use laundry detergent on the carpet. Works well in such situations. He’d NEVER pee on the bed but in those cases? Time to change the sheets! Children wet the bed. Especially little boys but some girls do too. Simple change of sheets, as for mattress? That’s a puzzle.

I agreeing KZ here … I’d arrange a vet visit if it continues as a UTI is possible but in this case as KZ said it seems to be a kitten that gets distracted but play and is caught short maybe … I’d only bring her into the bedroom on the bed after you see her use the litter tray or again like KZ said place a tray in the bedroom 🙂
