    So a few people expressed interest in seeing the new “cat room” my Love and I put together. It’s a rather small room, 118″x135″ with a small alcove by the door and a small-ish recessed closet. The floor is painted concrete due to ferrets {Love’s ex had two or three, left to run wild without litter training. They destroyed the carpeting in over 85% of the house, and since then we’ve removed all the carpets, tack strips, and heavily scrubbed the walls and floors over the past few years repeatedly, before painting everything clean some time about 18 months ago.}

    Well~ Since we spend the majority of our time in the bedroom, kitchen, living room and home office, neither of us really do much with the other bedrooms. {one’s used for spiritual space but that’s about it…} So it was mutually decided that we’d turn the back bedroom into a combination library/cat room! ๐Ÿ˜€ YAY! After one last THOROUGH cleaning due to past “house guests” we let the room air out, before moving in the furniture.

    Kitty’s new play pen, a clean sheet and towel, her fleeces, teddy bear, a recliner for us, side tables, lamps, and some of my past artwork. It’s a bit of a jumble for now, but once we’re a BIT more settled, we’re going to move in the bookshelves, an area rug at least, curtains, and some better furniture for baby. {I’m hoping for berber-covered cat shelves that she can run along the walls on, and a lounging pad as I mentioned in the video!}

    We want her to be able to be as high as is safe for an adult cat, and won’t be putting them up until she’s demonstrated that she can stay safe. The next major purchase will be a cat tree, and there’s a few we’re looking at on Amazon that have great reviews and customer photos. Little Girl is going to be quite pampered and much-loved for the rest of her natural life. Barring some medical emergency, she’s found her furever home!!!

    Parkland Pet Playpen on Amazon

    The Playpen itself, as mentioned in the video, is rather sturdy and comes flat-packed like a pop-up tent. If you’ve the time and the knack, I suggest replacing both zippers with something more heavy-duty if you plan on using it with adult cats. If not, the small version I purchased is currently only $19.99 with shipping, and the large is $32.99. I suggest allowing it to air out, to let the vague vinyl and chemical scent to dissipate, or to spray it down with a pet-safe disinfectant before use. {I use a 1:1 or 2:1.5 mix of plain water and a clear alcohol like high-proof vodka, to disinfect. It works for delicate items like steel-boned corsets, why not a canvas playpen?}

    Thanks for the vid, Kincaid! Baby is beyond adorable, so nice of her to help you with the tour of the room and the playpen!
    If I keep fostering that playpen might be a good investment; something other than a cage would be good for a little one.

    LOVED the tour Kincaid! What a room and your baby is so very lucky to have found purrparents like you! My little Peso has graduated out of his crate–it is now out of the house–and his bed with his stuffed lambie is residing on the sofa at present. He navigates the house really well, knows where most things are, and has now figured out how to actually EAT his own soft food!

    I love the commitment you have made to this kitten and caring for her!

    Oh and check this out–it’s where I got my cat tree and I can’t wait to see Peso playing on it!

    Good morning/afternoon, all!

    Thank you guys SO much for the kind words, it’s a lovely thing to wake up to!

    JJ if you become a regular foster to these precious babies, I would definitely suggest giving it a try! We bought the small size, and it’s still roomy enough for about 4-6 kittens under 5wks depending on whether you keep a small litter tray in with the babies or not. It would make a lovely sleeping arrangement as well for near the bed to keep an eye on them, though in that case I would gently suggest wrapping a blanket around the outside to insulate from fan drafts.

    My goodness, Zee, sounds like you’ve got quite the mover! We’re hoping to keep baby a little more confined than just “in the room” at present. Unfortunately, after the video was filmed, we had to “box fort” the walls back up around her playground. We’ve a sneaking suspicion that; due most likely to inbreeding; Baby’s got some vision problems. She doesn’t track movement as well as most babies I’ve had, and she’s not quite as “on the ball” as a lot of kitties either. Her pupils look a little milked-over, but it might just be the changing colors. She can chase a laser just fine, and she “sees” us when we walk into the room. But I’ve a slow, sinking feeling that all is not well.

    Regardless, when we take her into the vet we’ll be asking about it directly. Until then, she’s being pretty supervised when outside of the playground area, and zippered into her playpen at night when we’re not around. She’s trying to climb and explore, and I just can’t trust her to make those jumps when she’s so little, even from the arm of the chair to the lower side table. :/

    Kincaid, don’t despair about Lil’ Beans’ eyesight just yet, as they develop rather slowly at first. Peso acted the same way, and then all of a sudden he is ‘butt wiggling’ when he tries to stalk something he sees from a distance. It’s amazing to me in just what difference a couple of days makes to their development at this early stage of kittendom.

    Well Kincaid,

    “She Who Has Yet To Be Named” is for sure living the high life! Very neat digs! Cats/libraries go together so good call! Not overly expensive either. Now if my Dorry boy were to see this he’d want one too – and then he wouldn’t set a paw in it. *Sigh* He “makes do” with his “condo” the empty space in a unit where my VCR/DVD player used to live. He has 3 cozy blankies, which on occasion I am purrmitted to borrow. Plus a DIY bed that I made out of a smart street-find drawer and lined with a soft pillow.

    Vodka as cleaning agent? Steel-boned corset? Interesting! Very! ๐Ÿ˜‰ (Says she who rocks Goth-style eye makeup.)

    Little Girl is going to be quite pampered and much-loved for the rest of her natural life? Good Heavens Kincaid, at what point does her pampering begin? ๐Ÿ˜† Steel Boned Corset? I’ll have to look into one.

    She is cute and adorable. Mwah! I’m glad she found you.

    Thanks for the reassurance, Zee! It’s not quite despair just yet, more a sneaking suspicion. When we get her to the vet next for vaccines I’ll ask the vet about it, and see what he recommends. For now, we’re keeping the bright lights and laser play to a minimum, just in case.

    KJ, Yeah, we’re really looking forward to watching her grow and fill the space! Awww Dorry sounds ADORABLE!

    PG, you’ve got quite the point there, lol~ and we’re VERY glad to have found and rescued her from the sad, short life most ferals experience.

    And yes, steel boned corsets are a great love of mine. Minor point of fact, in the Regency period men wore them just as often as women, which helped the narrow, upright “Dandy” posture most associate with the men of the period. The study of corsetry and it’s relative safety is a subject near and dear to my little gay heart ๐Ÿ˜‰ And with Pride quickly approaching for my city, I’m deciding whether or not I’ll show in drag this year or not~ lol. Costuming and theater definitely paved my way into some interesting places, but drag definitely isn’t for everybody, so mostly corsetry is just part of “That weird hobby Kincaid has~”

    Tonight, after downing 3Tbs of food twice at different meal times, baby screamed and cried until I came and got her. Her playpen is now where her box used to be in the home office, so she can see us more frequently. I’ll put it back in the cat room before we go to bed tonight.

    Lil girl is apparently becoming a bit of a velcro-baby.

    She’s a wee bit and you two are all that she knows. It will take her awhile to understand that you’re not abandoning her. Once she sees better she won’t feel alone.

    PG We’re alright with keeping her close to us, it’s not a problem… But she was quite alright the night previous. Regardless, I’ve been spending more hours in her room with her than not ๐Ÿ™‚
