For the past few days my 11 yr old kitty will not alow anyone near me… He is normally a very friendly kitty and adores my mom and he even went after her! I’ve had him since he was 5 weeks old and although we do have a very strong bond this behavior is new. No one has mistreated him or me so im very confused. My poor family is just heartbroken. I definitely do not encourage this behavior i tried putting him in time out but he completely panicked and screamed to the top of his lungs so im at a loss on how to correct this behavior.

Cats don’t become overprotective unless they sense something. You can call your doctor.

He’s doing what a loving kit does so don’t punish your boy.

I’d take a look outside also, and see if there are any new cats hanging around the house. They can hear them, and especially smell them and if they are peeing (marking) outside, this can definitely make him act like this. You could also unknowingly be bringing the scent in on your shoes. My cat Willow has gone ballistic lately when he sees outside cats on the porch. He will throw himself on the door and yowl loudly. If you try and grab him (which is not advisable) he thinks the cat outside has grabbed him and actually loses his s(*t! I speak from experience on that last one. But start with the vet first and see that he checks out ok.
