What a cutie your baby is! And Vesper is a beauty.

You have gotten the best advice already, so I don’t really have any more to offer, except encouragement. You really are among the very best here.

Keep doing what you have been doing. She is growing very nicely, and bless you for adopting her and bringing her into your home.

And good luck in the future.

    Peace, hugs and purrs.

Thanks again or all the advice and replies.

    Kitten update:

She has a name! Lamina, but Mina and Minnie mostly. Vesper and Lamina are both latin words — vesper means evening and lamina means ghost. I didn’t come up with it on my own, and thanks for all the suggestions. Mina really seems to fit her.

We took her back to our regular vet, who gave her a much more thorough exam (she kept thinking of things to do because she didn’t want to let Mina go!). The vet said she’s very small for her age. She thought the kitten might have developed a cold and decided to give her worm meds, antibiotics, and an immune system booster. She told us to start feeding her Hills I/D, which the kitten loves although she doesn’t seem to want to eat it without us feeding it to her.

The vet also said she can’t be tested for FIV/Leukemia for 3 more weeks. We don’t want the older cat to meet her until we are sure, but it’s OK because we also want to introduce them very slowly. Vesper is much less stressed as long as we remember to give her alpha kitty treatment!

We love this vet because she saved our older cat’s life after 2 other vets couldn’t find anything wrong with her.

So a brief search tells me the internet thinks Hill’s is junk food? We will switch over to wellness tomorrow, which is what my other cat eats (aside from the occasional fancy feast). I’m also wondering if I should give her some plain yogurt — I found lactose-free plain yogurt with Acidophilus.

Here are some photos from dinner. She’s pretty sloppy!

I love her name. My son is a Latin scholar so he really enjoyed their Latin names.

It’s been exactly a week since Mina moved in… She’s doubled her weight (now she’s nearly a pound) in that time and her digestion seems to be sorted out. We still have her on antibiotics and immune system boosters, and she has about 10 times the energy she did before.

I haven’t been around a tiny kitten since adopting my 17-y-o at 8 weeks. It’s blowing my mind how fast she grows! I’ll come to see her after she sleeps off her last meal, and her tail will have sprouted an inch or her ears will be doubled in size. Her face is also beginning to get less babyish. Yesterday I found out she has her molars (ouch!).

She also started eating solid food pretty much instantly. She likes formula too, but we’ve stopped giving it to her in a dropper. She can lap it up on her own. She vacuums up solid food like a mini hoover.

We are trying the plastic straws to keep her from chomping our fingers. Thanks or the tip! Setting her down whenever she gets rough seems to work. She gets anxious when we set her down… Since we have the opportunity to raise this kitten so early, we want to raise the cuddliest, most well-behaved kitten we can.

She’s crazy about pretty much any toy we give her ๐Ÿ™‚

Vesper, our senior cat, seems to be over her fear of the kitten. Now she hovers by the bathroom door whenever anyone goes in there. She isn’t acting aggressive at all, just curious. Of course it will be a little while before they meet (once kitten gets her tests back…) but we are probably going to start letting Mina out on field trips when Vesper is shut up in the bathroom. We’ll see what Vesper thinks of that ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here are some photos of her playing with a paper bag. I also think I’m starting to see yellow eyes emerging from behind the blue.
