Hi, I’m Gabriel and our momma cat has had 5 kittens, and sadly the runt has died, due to underdeveloped lungs. That was two days ago, and everything seems to be going fine except I have only witnessed the kittens pooping twice. Only two of them have pooped one time, and even if I stimulate them, they only pee and cry. One seems a little bloated but his tummy isn’t hard! I tried to get him to poop with a moist warm cotton ball and he hasn’t. I’m not in the position to get him to a vet to get him an enema, and i just gave him a tiny bit of vegetable oil with a dripper about thirty minutes ago. Their eyes are just opening and I’m a tad bit worried.

I’ve already held one as it died in my hand and I am determined to keep the other four alive. Is there any way I can help them without taking them to a vet?

So my question is–if your momma cat had the kittens and she is there with them, why are you trying to make them poop? When she cleans them, she stimulates them with her tongue and that makes them poop and pee. She ingests that and that’s probably why you don’t see it. The best thing for these kittens is to be raised by their mother, but if she’s not around, then you have to do it. Make sure she’s inside with them in a nest, and she will take care of the rest. Provide her a litterbox and plenty of food and water and if she gets good nutrition, then the kittens will too.

She’s rejected two, which I care for, and the one who I fear is constipated is one of them.

Okay then, I will post some links that might be helpful to you and one of them is the ‘triangle method’ of pooping a kitten. Just be patient, as most bottle fed kittens take a while to learn how to poop with stimulation. I use a warm washcloth gently rubbed on their privates….pee comes easily, poop sometimes not so much. Hope these links help!
