Aloha…. I am One Popoki and live in AZ. My ‘nick’ name here comes from my study of all things Hawaiian.. and popoki is the Hawaiian word for cat.. of which I have one. My dear Chloe was a gift from my son 3 years ago. I went to the shelter where she picked me. She is a grey/white tuxedo (sort of) short hair domestic. In other word, she is 100% cat, no dog mixed in.

I am 52 (AAUUUGGHH!!! How did that happen?!?!) and I have 2 sons ages 24 and 22 and one grandson age 6. I work in the semi-conductor industry as a service coordinator (another word for clerical work)… it’s a job that pays the bills. 🙂 I LOVE to dance – country dancing and of course hula.

    That’s me in a nutshell !

You are way cool, One Popoki. I have always wondered how you came up with the name. Now I know and that makes you even cooler.

I thought of using ‘ekahi popoki… but that was getting too complicated.. LOL

Thank you ! Country dancing – any dancing really – is my passion. I am one who cannot sit still when the music is playing.

I so can empathize with you about that age thing. I too am middle-aged, how did THAT happen??? Do you think we could sue somebody? 😉

    PS. Keep on dancing, girl!!!

I am even older. I don’t feel it, but the knees do! And the hair dye is getting more and more expensive.

I have told my daughter I am going to grow old disgracefully (do you know the poem “When I am old I will wear purple”? If not I’ll find it and post it), but she says I can’t be any more disgraceful than I am already. Perhaps it’s something to do with my large red motorbike!

Polly’s Mum: Does the Red Hat Society have chapters in the UK? Women over 50, inspired by the poem you mentioned, formed the RHS to celebrate their years. They meet regularly all over the US wearing purple clothing and fancy red hats. I saw a group once in a local restaurant and they seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. I meet the age requirement, but haven’t joined yet! 😉

If there is a RHS I have never heard of it. Mind you I do belong to the RHS in England – it’s the Royal Horticultural Society!

BTW little does darling daughter know about how disgraceful I can get!!!

I just googled “Red Hat Society” and found the official website. There ARE chapters in the UK! Here is the link: http://www.redhatsociety.com/index.aspx

You might find new and marvelous ways to shock your daughter if you join this RHS. 🙂

Thank you KittenWhisperer. I looked at the site and it looks great fun. Unfortunately the two nearest chapters are not open to new members, and the rest are too far away. Guess I’ll have to do without or start my own!

I have talked of getting a scooter… great on gas mileage. My 24 year old son freaked! So worried mom might get hurt. This from the guy that drove a crotch rocket – motorcyle – without a helmet. Love it when the tables are turned. LOL

My bike is a 600CC Honda, V-Twin. It makes o lovely noise and goes like the proverbial off a shovel!

I bow to thee ! LOL I am not that brave.. not on the streets of Phoenix. I need to start slow and work my way up. I’m talking a 150 cc scooter… 😉

I bought my first bike (the largest you can have as a learner in UK is 125cc) as my 30th birthday present to myself. Once I had passed my test I sold it and bought a 750cc Kawasaki instead. Didn’t like it, the centre of gravity was all wrong once it was full of fuel. I sold it after I had my daughter – thouoght I probably wouldn’t ride again. After a while I missed it so much I bought the Honda and I’ve had that ever since.

Maybe I’ll get rid of it when I start to draw my pension, then again maybe I won’t.

I’ve also got a little red classic sportscar – a 1961 Frogeye Sprite.

One Popoki – one is not enough, you need some more fur around the house. (I have six and that’s probably a few too many, but that’s what happened – cats just find their way to my door – all were feral kittens I trapped, but two, who were abandoned by a neighbor – those two girls were about 2 and I’ve had then for five years as of this past July 4th – I love them all !!!) I too used to work in the semiconductor industry here in Melbourne, Florida – most of the work has gone to Malaysia, it was quite exacting for all concerned. More later I have to get back to work !!! How nice to hear about everyone – this new thing/site is going to be great.

Polly’s Mum–can’t go wrong with a Honda! Man friend traded his Honda in for an Acura TL and has had 2 wrecks. I told him that it served him right because he’s a traitor and that it wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t gotten rid of his Honda!

My first bike was a Honda too, CB125

I have just ordered my first motorcycle – and yes, I too am over 50! I have only done my CBT (Compulsory Basic Training), so, as a “Learner” I can only ride a 125cc – and I have to have big red “L” plates on the bike. The bike I’m getting is a Honda as well – a VT 125C Shadow – a cruiser type bile. My husband owns a Harley, and when I get my Honda it will look like a baby version of his Harley. Eventually, I want to work my way up to a Harley as well, but for now I just want to concentrate on learning to ride without falling over!
