It was fun having Leela around this summer, but I sure missed the boys; 1st summer without them in 17 years. On a nice day I would sit outside, and they would both be in the yard with me. (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young: “…with 2 cats in the yard…”) When they were younger they would wander further, but always came when I called for them to check in.
A couple of years ago, it was a chilly March day with snow on the ground and the sun shone brightly. I dressed in dark clothing and sat outside – the woodpile on one side of me and a kindling box on the other, shielding me from the wind. The sun warmed my face, and Jiggs was on my lap, further warming me. When I closed my eyes, I could imagine being on a beach; except instead of sand, snow and instead of a beach towel covering my legs, Jiggs. It was so cozy!
Shaddo had one last experience outside. Just before our appointment on that sad day on June 9, I took him outside and laid him on the soft lawn for a few minutes. It was a hot day, so we sat in the shade as a cool breeze swept over us. It was the least I could do for my boy who loved the outdoors so much.
As for Leela, hubby and I agreed several years ago that the next generation would be indoor kitties. Notice that was plural. Don’t get excited yet, folks; we probably won’t adopt anyone till spring – unless someone adopts us!
