Several years ago I came across a very fat, tuxedo cat. The cat was wandering around a gas station and I was afraid she was going to get hit by a car. I took the pregnant cat home and…a week later she gave birth to four kittens One died at 28 days, the other three survived.
I took care of their medical needs (vaccinated, spayed/neutered) and found homes for the mama cat and the two boy kittens, but decided to keep the female kitten. She became my soul cat. Her name was Olivia and she was the most beautiful cat I had ever seen. She grew into a beautiful tabby, with red, orange, brown, black, grey, cream and white markings. Olivia also had a siamese looking nose. She had one good eye, because sadly the other eye was damaged by the virus that took the life of her sister (Madden, a calico).
For 4.5 years Olivia was my best friend, my shadow…she had an innocence about her that my other cats (whom I love dearly too), didn’t have. She would immediately purr when she saw me…she would seek out my attention. Out of our family, Olivia only liked me hehe
I witnessed her birth and it was amazing experience. Then on September 9, 2014 at 4.5 years old she died in my arms from heart failure. I wanted to write this to remember my beautiful, soul cat. I miss you Olivia!
I miss the outline on her nose, the softness of her coat and her wonderfully loud purr.
To help with my grieving I adopted Gypsy. Olivia had a sister who was a calico, and so to honor both Olivia and Madden, I adopted Gypsy. It hurts a little less to know that even though Olivia is not with me anymore, that Gypsy’s life was saved. 🙂
