Slips into the cafe, dims the lights, sets up and lights candles on the tables. Fluffs up pillows for the kittehs, feeding them at the start of their shift. Gets the Bailey’s fountain flowing and unlocks the bar. Fires up the grill and puts snacks in the oven for our guests. Put some good soft jazz on the PA system for background mood music. Good Evening/Morning/Afternoon to you wherever you are in the world friends. Come on in and settle down. Betty and Wilma are putting on their little kitty aprons and are ready for their guests tonite at the cafe’. Kitteh’s are anxiously awaiting laps to sit on. How was your day? Come share! We are so glad you are here!

Just in time for the night shift!

I’m actually leaving in about 5 minutes to pick up the beau, and head out to my freeeee massage!

I have a question for you guys. I’m thinking about getting a harness for my kitties. Any luck with them? My parent’s cats will walk on a harness, but I’ve heard of cats that resist them. Maybe a leash instead?

    Good evening, Molly and Jym!

Jym, I tried a harness with Bobby and he hated it – kept flopping over on his side every step we took. Instead I just walk him on a leash with a non-break-away collar.

Tried it too Jym, was a big NO GO with my girls. Of course, they hated the leash, Wilma just figured out how to unhook the leash and break themselves free! Enjoy your massage! GD, are you working? How’s your tummy?

Maybe I’ll just go with the leash idea first. I can make one pretty easily. My kitty’s collars have the metal prongs that go into the holes.. those should be OK right?

I sure would think so! You are really handle when it comes to sewing Jym, I am jealous!

Oh heavens. I suppose it depends on the cat, but my attempt at harness training was a dismal failure. Here was Jerrie’s reaction to the harness:

Week 1 – lay on the floor like you are dead until Mom takes it off.

Week 2 – only walk backward when the harness is on.

Week 3 – walk forward, but all hunched over and sideways so you look deformed.

Week 4 – success! Mom brings you outside, where you manage to wiggle out of the harness in under a minute. You get to go check out the neighbor’s garage. Mom gives up on that silly idea.

    Bottom line: try a leash.

Haha good idea! My parents’ cats have no problem whatsoever on the harness. I’ll just try the leash first so I don’t waste my money if they don’t like the harness

Yep – I use those to clip the leash on. Just make sure it’s not a break-away collar that’ll break if they tug on it hard.

Bobby never tugs on it anymore – he knows Mama is attached to the other end. You should have seen him try to climb a tree this weekend while on the leash!!!

He hated the leash in the beginning, but now he puts up with it to go out. I go clip it on him when he’s sleeping and he wakes up, meows and walks to the door 🙂

Molly, yes, I’m at work – for another 10-15 minutes. I’ve got an ache in my rib right now, but nothing severe. My headache got so bad I had to take an Advil earlier 🙁

NNGM – that sounds like Bobby. Except for the neighbor’s garage. 🙂

GD, I was convinced from the beginning that your Bobby had some of the spirit of my Jerrie in him. Too many of your stories have me nodding my head, saying “Oh yeah, been there”. I think Bobby is a lot smarter than Jerrie was though.

Bobby is quite a smart kitty but I bet your Jerrie was too!

LOL NNGM! I tried a harness on Abby, and she too walked backward, then like she was deformed, and finally lay down and “cried” until I took it off!…. for Abby and me, the best way I take her outdoors is in her mesh carrier. She totally loves that because she knows it means going with Mommie somewhere. She can see out, and can move around in it. I can take her on picnics, and have even borrowed my sister’s baby umbrella stroller and strapped the carrier in that for walks! She loves it, it’s secure, and we have a blast together!

No, Jerrie was a total clown and everyone loved him, but he was not the brightest bulb I’m afraid.

OMG! I want to get the girls a kitty stroller and take them when I start going on my power walks once the weather heats up! AV, does Abby enjoy the stroller and does she behave in it?????

She does, but again, I just strap her mesh carrier in the umbrella stroller. I started using her mesh carrier to travel with because I wanted to take her to NC. My vet suggested that I buy a mesh one that I only use for “fun” trips with Mom, so she would never associate it with “bad” things (like going to the vet – we use the carboard things for that). Anyway, it’s large enough to put her sheepskin dognut bed in, and of course her favorite white kitty. It’s about the size of a gym bag, with the whole top being a strong mesh material. I has little zipper pouches that I can reach my hand in to pet her, and of course she can always see and hear me. She did so well plane traveling, and me walking thru the airport, car ride, etc. that I started taking her on picnics and she loves it!. Then I started taking her on walks with the umbrella stroller. She was kinda “nervous” about the traffic at first, but quickly adjusted, and now loves it!
